They all look oddly comfortable straddling a big fat piece of wood.

  2. blain says:

wow….really? what in the hell made them think that this would be a good picture…it’s preverse and weird, like a family from the hills that marry their brothers and sisters…

  3. Bryanna says:

They left them up there when the shoot was over.

  4. jim says:

This family tree grows strange fruit!

  5. Georgia says:

dads just giving the family a ride, like the good old days

  6. Bigg Boyee says:

Gives “Got a Woody” a WHOLE new meaning. Excuse me my theorapist is in DIRE need of my attention after viewing this!?!?!?!

  7. **** says:

Genius! It’s like they are trying to get posted on this site. If I was a photographer, I would totally do this to people.

Does anyone else get the feeling this photo is part of their family friendly tv show intro?

  8. I just peed my pants! ROFLMAO!

  9. jana says:

My favorite!!! Looks like something stupid my family would do, all the while thinking how cool it would look.

  10. Caitlyn says:

The only thing more hilarious than this photo is the idea of them trying to get up in that tree! This seriously tickles me!!

  11. Tdiz says:

Freud would have had a field day with this one…

  12. Ashley says:

Let me guess…this is the Johnson family?

  13. Bill in Houston says:

Mom and Dad and kids, sittin’ in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G.

This family tree has but one branch.

Any photographer who does this genre should be beaten.

  14. Christyn says:

NO no no no no!! Dear God make it stop!

  15. Mike says:

There was some awkward shifting immediately prior to this photo being taken.

The old folks look like their hips are being cleaved in two.

  16. Olivia says:

This is definitely photoshop…. it looks to me like they were all posed on horses originally, the way that their legs are positioned. Funny as hell though, even it it is fake

  17. JK says:

This is all very Ken Russell. Liszt-o-mania!!!!!!

  18. LaLaWojo says:

Mom’s huge smile just says it all!

  19. Kim says:

*sigh* I guess they all just enjoy having something hard between their legs…..

  20. Ride that wood baby!!!!!

  21. Zorch says:

The kid on the right. Wow.

  22. Christine says:

Man, white people are so weird.

  23. Cass says:

honestly.. why all the hate? look how natural this is for them. the gentle feel of this photo will stay with me forever. and if i ever have children i would certainly consider hiring this photographer to shoot our family portrait!

  24. frunkis says:

log rides are a wholesome family activity

  25. Jess says:

The fact that this is fake is kind of even more disturbing, because if it was professional, it leaves one to wonder.

    1) what DID they pose on

    and

    2) WTF were they thinking

  26. maggie says:

sorry son #2, but you got mom’s small hands. you know what they say about small hands…

  27. Keith says:

great photo if it weren’t a fake. look at the position of the mother’s left foot. Just how long is her left leg? Why is her left foot larger than her right, when her right foot is closer? Why are their ankles together when they have their legs wrapped abount that big log. In order to hold their legs like that the limb would have to be razor thin…and THAT would be awkward.

  28. red says:

Ok, I can see how this photo would inspire an entire website about awkward family photos.

  29. trip says:

I cant imagine the testicle pain and discomfort. This photographer has to be from Idaho.

  30. Velocity says:

HaHaHa funny pic and definitely awkward in that its a FAKE. Look at the back of moms knee and her ankles

  31. Shepard Pie says:

Heh. I really like the force field between Mom-Son#1, and Son#1-Son #2. You’d think that whoever was pointing the camera would say, “Hey, this isn’t going to work.” But then, I’m glad they didn’t.

  32. 1ghostorchid says:

What instruction do you get from a photographer on a shot like this?!!

  33. LadyLovesDenim says:

This goes for every pic on this site but especially this one… My son would kill me with his bare hands before ever subjecting himself to such family torture. This is why we have no professional family photos. I want to get some for his gradutation but won’t even bother trying. But a family human pyramid would be awesome.

  34. Elizabeth says:

wonkward @ 11:33, it’s because he doesn’t want to accidentally lean into his mother’s breasts…

  35. Gabe says:

Look at them all trying not to smile so big. They totally get it. “A family that plays together stays together, hee hee.” “Shhh. Guys, think ‘Christmas card’, okay?”

  36. Eleanor says:

    Un-effing-believable

  37. Hollie says:

I wonder if this is hanging up in their living room, nicely framed?

  38. rwb says:

Dad’s on the bottom, you gotta wonder why? Oh wait never mind.

  39. Kelly says:

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

  40. Heather says:

    Nice posture!

  41. Tids says:

    We’ve got wood.

  42. ktrac says:

i bet the tree felt violated

  43. M says:

A family that wears highwaters together, stays awkward together….

    …or something like that.

  44. wonkward says:

The son second from the right is sitting awkwardly erect.

  45. Olivia says:

I sort of want to see the photographic evidence of them getting actually into that position.

  46. Bree says:

I don’t even wanna know whose idea that was…

  47. jen says:

“I don’t know… something just feels so natural”

  48. ReallynoReally says:

Just the idea that they all thought this would make a cool picture. lol

  49. WowAkward says:

Brings all new meaning to family tree. WOAH!

  50. Wardrobe Wire says:

    Favorite!

  51. LadyLovesDenim says:

He is doing so to keep his back off his mom’s boobs.

  52. Kevin says:

Looks like her thumb might be somewhere it shouldn’t. Hope she washes her hands after the picture was taken.

  53. beavis says:

cause he bumped into his brother. look how happy his brother is about it

  54. notso says:

He’s adopted. That’s why his pants are a different color.

  55. Shepard Pie says:

Hey, you’re right! The shadowcasting iddn’t quite right. Photoshop trickery! Perhaps they posed singly, and then some diabolical Photoshopper stacked them on that limb. Or maybe they were straddling something else entirely… a tank turret?

  56. Darn says:

I understand how you might perceive this as being fake, but it’s just your eyes playing tricks on you. Look very very closely at mum’s left foot and you can see there’s something in the background with a very similar hue, although slightly more red, that makes it look like her thigh bone is 3 ft long. It’s not. As for the thickness of the log… Well, it looks about 10 inches thick. Not the widest ever. Plus the photo is clearly a bit stretched vertically.

And another thing: Does it really seem likely that someone put time and effort into making a montage of a family straddling a fallic branch? It’s a giggle, not the greatest joke ever.

  57. Check around for a photographer who specializes in natural, candid shots. You have your posed shots and your more candid shots that can look fantastic. There are already going to be tons of photographers at the graduation anyway, one more on your side, he won’t even notice. :) Good Luck.

As for the photo, first, whoever came up with the concept of “family Tree” in this manner needs to be shot, second, this is beyond akward and third, what family in their right mind would agree to something like this? OMG!

  58. A says:

    I know I feel violated

  59. nasus says:

    lmfao!

  60. beavis says:

oh ya. you’re right. first pic. this one started it all

  61. Shannon says:

Same here. It’s like some kind of cowboy thing.

  62. JX says:

(That could also explain why they’re all sitting so awkwardly, if they posed separately).

  63. Louanne says:

    Lays even.

  64. Louanne says:

    Defiantly? Or definitely?

  65. Mick says:

You hit the nail on the head! The dad must be Cletus Daltrey, whose grandpappy emigrated before rock and roll was invented.
