george griffiths, you’re clueless if you blame bush for all that. New Orleans flooded b/c their local officials are criminals who stole the maintenance $ for the levees. Bush had to beg the governor to evacuate when the hurricane was coming. look at mississippi if you want to see how NO could have recovered if they had any sense.

the economy tanked b/c democrats insisted that fannie/freddie give loans to deadbeats who wouldn’t otherwise get them and refused stricter standards. the banks followed suit b/c the government supported fannie/freddie.

congress voted to go into iraq based on the same reasons that other nations came with us. turns out the intelligence was wrong but bush wasn’t the only one fooled (clinton had the same info during his time).

you’re entitled to your opinion on the others but at least get all the facts.

    • Summer says:

      Amen to that sister!!

    • I lived in NO and yes the money was voted on every year and every year it was re-directed and every year the pumps failed and flooded us out…

    • kirby says:

      Tool.

      • Julie says:

Wow! What a reaction to an awkward family photo! You a little insecure maybe? You miss your little Bushy?

        • Joeking says:

A reaction yes, but why must you make a snide remark to support your anti Bush feelings?

          • Mike says:

It’s sad to read the brainwashed arguments on both sides here. Why don’t you just swallow the pill and realise that they are all the same.
Both sides are warmongers and would have fought all of the recent illegal wars, and both want war with Iran.

It’s much cosier to stay asleep though eh?

    • mary elizabeth says:

Are you all seriously having political debates on AFP? Get a life. You’re not going to change someone’s opinion by arguing and what does it matter? You don’t even know each other! You’re all ridiculous!

      • Regie says:

‘Omgggg why can’t everyone just agree on everythinnnng I can’t handle people having their own opinion! Especially on the internet!’ Honestly. Nobody is allowed to have a damn opinion anywhere these days without getting b****ed at by somebody who doesn’t believe in the freedom of speech. You’re the ridiculous one, Mary.

  2. Kel says:

Clearly he loves his country. GO PATRIOT….ACT! :D

    • troy says:

Clearly he loves does, I guess loving one’s country involves taking away their civil rights for your own benefit then, yay patriot act.

  3. ealktn says:

.. How about fug him, he’s not even worth the comment OR publication on this site. :)

    • Golden Girl says:

But yet, you took the time to do it.

      • Mena says:

Bush haters are ingorant. I bet you don’t even know the names of the people in
Congress who also have to pass the ideas through and agree with the Pres before
anything like WAR actually happens, do you? He didn’t just mash the war button
        in his office one day…

  4. Hetzel says:

Hey lefty fascists – the Two Minute Hate is over. Let it go! This is a site designed for laughter, not vitriol. Hate the shirts, not the object of your delusional resentments.

    • kirby says:

hey, righty hypocrites – it’s called cause and effect. get used it. enjoy your life in the margin.

      • soldiergirl says:

It’s a cute old photo, we all have them. Don’t try to add to the awkward photos web site by trying to turn it into your own political diatribe, proving how ignorant you are of top secret info. and military info., etc. you are not privy to..and just ignorant period.

    • angthrax says:

pretty sure lefty and fascist is an oxymoron, just sayin.

    • carrillo says:

DUDE. thank you for quoting 1984. that makes you that much cooler. i totally agree with you hetzel. you all need to CHILL.

  5. LI says:

I read through all these, My favorite comment is all this is “He will never be the President of Vogue”

  6. Great post! Just wanted to let you know you have a new subscriber- me!

  7. John P. says:

    Green

If you want to flip out at people about facts you might want to make sure the ones you are stating are correct. Read a history book, do your homework (this includes more than going to the fox news website), or simply pay attention. The entire government (including Bush) are to blame for Katrina. If they had performed any kind of up keep on those levees (which by the way were designed as a temporary solution) they would not have broken. It’ll happen again too. The new levees were built even lower and less sturdy. The reason Bush takes so much heat is because of his actions after Katrina.

  8. Taylor says:

    Ahh, leave ‘um alone.

  9. Belinda says:

    Those are the Bush idiots.

  10. IAmNoOne says:

I didn’t know Alfred E Nueman had a wife and kids.

  11. IAmNoOne says:

I agree with everyone else, George should have changed his shirt before they took this pic.

  12. Lacie says:

Wow! Some of you people are getting waaaaayyyy too in depth on here. Lighten up a bit…plz!!! Your seriously making this site dull with all your serious comments. LET IT GO!!!!

  13. ANN V says:

The only thing awkward about this to me is the non-related comments & sniping back and forth. It’s a nice family picture and they all seem relaxed and happy and dressed appropriately for the 4th of July. Wearing a shirt with the American flag is only considered to be criminal if it is made out of the actual flag itself.

  14. Charles H says:

Dub, keep the hand above the waist!

  15. Lonnie Rong says:

That is actually a nice picture of the Bush family. Centered, good backdrop and good lighting. I’d call that “photographical strategery”.

  16. Janet says:

I dont see a problem with this picture. Its a family picture taken way before he was President of the United States, and they are a good family. Weather you agree with him or not, the fact is he was a good president and he ran the country during some really hard times. NO that was their own fault. They were told to get out. I would walk miles to insure my kids safety. Those people were more concerned about their personal belongings then they were of their childrens safety. Bush took terrorist to the court after 9/11 and I am glad he did. Its a picture. If we had a picture of Obama up there doing something stupid or looking stupid like he usually does there would be oh your racist etc etc. Obama has done nothing for this country but send money to foreign fields to kill unborn babies. What else has he done. The umemployeement rate hasnt gotten any better and he is trying to raise taxes.

  17. EveryMoment says:

Proof positive that those two aren’t twins. Dammit, I knew it. They were always pulling something on us the dang Bushes.

  18. TJ says:

Really. Why is this even on here?

  19. Sarah says:

That is my Uncle’s house in Maine! He and the Bushs were good friends.

  20. Jen says:

I’m not a Bush fan, but don’t you think you are being a bit too harsh with your title on this family? These ARE human beings and they don’t deserve that kind of garbage talk. Who is blameless enough to throw such stones? I thought this site was against that kind of language.
I was having fun and laughter looking at all the photos until this one came up.
    I’m leaving it now.

  21. Phil says:

”Families is where our nation finds hope, where wings take dream.”

  22. Thanks for the service, Mr. President. We were glad you were there! Love the dew!

  23. John says:

According to the Secret Service, Bush’s kids were nightmares – very spoiled. Their list of bad behaviors includes deliberately driving through red lights to loose their security detail – the people prepared to take a bullet for them if things go bad, putting people’s lives at risk in the process. Chips off the old blockhead.

  24. Cariona says:

Why not KEEP POLITICS OUT OF IT and comment of JUST the pictures. I don’t understand Why people feel the need to drag politics into nearly every thing its so annoying. just enjoy and laugh at something for what it is not because of the whole big drama of life and crap.

  25. Kate says:

That’s the first thing that I thought of too!! That it’s the Bush family was just kind of an afterthought.

  26. Robyn says:

I grew up maybe 20 minutes south of the Kennebunk area, and noticed the coast after tearing my eyes away from those terrible shirts. After marveling at how much the background stood out as uniquely MAINE did it occur that that man looked a bit familiar.

  27. Laura says:

Oh my gosh, that’s all i thought too! I thought it was Boothbay Harbor Maine!!!!

  28. More likely Kennebunkport in Maine, where the Bush family has a mansion & compound.

  29. “we do NOT blame our prime minister for all lifes problems – one person is not solely responsible for everything!!”

Well, I’d have to say your prime minister has a lot less power than our president does. Further, I don’t know of anyone who blames Bush for *everything*. We blame him for failing to do the right things for New Orleans after Katrina, we blame him for getting us into Iraq, we blame him for screwing up the Iraq War/occupation, we blame him for violating the Constitution, and we blame him for torturing prisoners. All of those things, as well as many other failures and crimes, are well documented.

Oh, and his party’s deregulation obsession (which W. helped greatly in pushing along) did much to worsen the economic problems that lead to the current global recession/depression.

The guy in the picture went on to be one of the worst leaders in history.

Do you really want to compare your prime minister to our last president? Really?

  30. petey says:

    “to vote him in twice”

actually, he was voted in once.

  31. Jenifer says:

And that is merely your opinion. You know, back in the day, everyone HATED Lincoln. Now he is considered one of the greatest presidents. The mentality when he was president was that people wanted slaves and WHY oh WHY would you free them??? One day people will look back and realize… Get OVER IT. P.S. Bush is Dang good looking……..I’d definitely hit it ;)

  32. me says:

He did win. Maybe he didn’t get the popular vote, but that’s not how our electoral system works. Quit crying.

  33. me says:

You don’t have to like him, but don’t kid yourself. He was voted in twice.

  34. Elpee says:

Agree – the second election he did NOT win. Still don’t understand how he won the first…

  35. me says:

There’s a big difference between the symbolism of burning a flag, and proudly displaying its image on your shirt.

  36. me says:

He looks like Magnum P.I. sans the mustache.

  37. Rick says:

No, he actually was a pilot with an Air National Guard unit in Texas. He flew F-102s, which for you non-military types is a supersonic fighter that shoots things. In fact, he was the only fighter pilot to ever become president.

As far as being high as a kite, are you sure you aren’t thinking of crackhead Barry O? Hey, here’s a joke: What’s the difference between Obama and cocaine? One can walk freely about the White House and the other one has to be hidden inside Sasha’s teddy bear. LOL.

  38. F.Bush says:

How is this the only reference to Team America? That’s the best part!

  39. Kent says:

The U.S. Flag Code (UNITED STATES CODE, TITLE 36, CHAPTER 10, §175. Position and manner of display, section 4-(d)) states: “The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery.”

That makes them common criminals . . . but we already knew that. Maybe this was just another law he decided to ignore.

    http://www.usflag.org/uscode36.html#176

  40. jontv says:

Ah, so it’s about emotions and expressive intent. I see your point, but that’s a kind of a flimsy legal standard.

Personally, I think this kind of flag-wear looks foolish and undignified. How the person feels about it is kind of irrelevant. At least flag burners are taking the symbol seriously, if they actually think it’s worth the trouble. How could such a goofy looking t-shirt really be seen as a serious declaration of patriotism?

Of course, I don’t think wearing this kind of clothing should be illegal. Nor should burning flags, in my opinion. The flag is just a symbol. What it stands for — our nation — is not going to suffer any real damage from either burning or dumb t-shirts.

  41. feefifoto says:

George H.W. Bush was a fighter pilot (a REAL one, not a slacker) who was shot down and received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service. He was ELECTED president in 1988.

  42. Zoid says:

Well to be a bit more specific, the F-102 was an interceptor, designed to fly into a position to fire large missiles at strategic bombers. It was not designed to “dogfight” or maneuver much at all, and was in fact under ground control for practically its entire mission. This mission was not required in Vietnam (the North Vietnamese had no bombers), so the Texas Air Guard pilots got to stay where they were. Still, something scary apparently happened to George Jr. during his “tour of duty,” and he just upped and left, never to return. He was never charged with being AWOL, and his records were, curiously, lost.

Only one person ever reported being with George Jr. at the controls of an airplane afterwards, when he was offered the yoke in a light plane. According to the story, the owner was definitely not impressed, and nobody has ever seen Dubya try to fly a plane since.

His dad flew a Grumman TBM Avenger torpedo bomber during WWII, not a fighter. It carried a crew of three and a bombload consisting of a Mark 13 torpedo, or a 2000 lb. bomb, or up to four 500 lb. bombs, and flew pretty much like the truck that it was. Flying with Air Group 51 off the carrier San Jacinto, H.W.’s plane was hit by anti-aircraft flak during one attack, and caught fire. After dropping his bombs, Bush flew some miles away before bailing out, one other crewman going down with the plane. The third crewman also bailed out, but his parachute didn’t open. It was never determined which crewman stayed with the plane, and which died bailing out. Bush then survived four hours in a life raft before being picked up by submarine. He flew 58 missions total through 1944, receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross and three Air Medals.

Neither Bush was a “fighter” pilot.

  43. August says:

Mmm, Rick. I believe you got served on the pilot subject, and loling your very own Obama joke does not make it funny. You should have just stuck to a simple show up of Ron’s weak comments. Trying to be clever was a bit of an overreach.

  44. August says:

On second thought, with all the trash talking on Bush you have a right to send some back. I retract the douche comment, but your joke is still a fail.

  45. KB says:

It totally is. At his parents’ compound in Kennebunkport, Maine. (I hiked there once and ran into their fenced off section of the coastline. Discovered later whose property it was!)

  46. cheekygirl says:

    Kent,
You posted the same message twice in one forum. Clearly you wanted us all to notice you. See 8.) this is ME noticing YOU. And can I just point something out here???? The statute states that ‘The Flag’ shall not be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. That means that you ought not take the actual FLAG and make it into a dress, a comforter or a curtain. Agreeably, further on it does say that you can have a small replica made into a patch for military or first-responders uniforms, and or a lapel for the left side of a suit jacket. But nowhere in the United States Flag Code does it say that you can or cannot take a loosely interpereted image that reminds people of the flag and put it on clothing. Clearly, they did not take old glory, cut it up into pattern pieces and sew it into the shirts that they are wearing. Honestly, you are just looking for a reason to call the Bush family criminals because you don’t like them. You can hate them all you want, but if you want to act like they’ve actually broken a law, at least have an argument that holds water! Are the shirts tacky? Yes, undoubtedly. Illegal? Hardly. If they were, then the hundreds of manufacturers of clothing that make these shirts every single year would be held accountable at some point, don’t you think???

  47. August says:

    Unless there’s a popular vote. :P

  48. August says:

Our derangements! lol. Mic, mate, yes. Stay home.

  49. August says:

    Exactly.

  50. Dave says:

    National Lampoon’s Kennebunkport Vacation

  51. cj says:

ummm, sorry to break it to ya but he served two terms petey…

  52. danny says:

    yes but voted in once

  53. awesome says:

HAHA cheekygirl, well done, you whooped him. Two thumbs up

  54. Brock says:

I grew up in Kennebunk…it’s definitely Kennebunkport.

  55. amy says:

You know those shirts are not an actual flag right? I mean you can buy a shirt with our flag on it practically anywhere. So it stands to reason alot of people are considered criminals.

  56. Jen says:

those are not REAL American flags! lighten up!

  57. E.T. says:

Rick… Poor taste. Lame joke. Awkward.

  58. Julie says:

Wow! I don’t believe it! This is the first comment that I have read from someone with a brain! I still don’t understand how an awkward family photo turns into a politics thing. The whole thing is silly in my opinion.

  59. Lynn says:

Laura would give you the beat-down. You don’t want to go there.
