I will have to say that this one is my favorite!

  2. Celtic Guy says:

The statues are copies of the Dying Gauls made by a Greek king after his defeat of the Celtic Galatians in Asia Minor. They were later copied by the Romans into marble from the original bronzes…this is just a later copy, a recent one, likely somewhere in Italy.

  3. Zack says:

Is this in the gardens at Versailles?

  4. Lacey says:

I bet their kids are mortified; now this is one to bribe the parents with for sure!

  5. Vanessa says:

This is definitely in the gardens at Versailles.
I see a different version of this every time…

  6. Renee says:

    FAIL.

  7. Hawkeye says:

    Ur doin it rong. :)

  8. Magdalene says:

Wow. Thats all that can really be said.

  9. Kelly says:

These guys don’t know their left from their right…

  10. Brooke says:

Is this Versailles? It also looks quite a bit like Brookgreen Gardens near Myrtle Beach. Either way, beautiful statuary, and AWKWARD photo. LOL

  11. rachel says:

    haha i love it!

  12. Leah says:

EPIC FAIL! wow, not even close.

  13. DaMDaMDeO says:

    Versailles?

    Yay France! (I’m french :) )

  14. Monica says:

That statue needs to look more like the people he’s modeling, it’s doesn’t even look like them.

  15. Albert says:

This isn’t too bad. My family and I do this all the time.

  16. Cassie says:

Just for the record, that statue is called “Gaul and Wife” and was originally part of a larger set of statues. It’s depicting a murder/suicide! The man has just killed his wife and is in the process of stabbing himself rather than surrender to the Romans.

I am SO never attempting to recreate that with my husband!

  17. Rishi says:

Someone asked, so the statue is the Gaul Killing Himself and His Wife, a Roman copy of a third century statue from Pergamum. Essentially the Gaul is offing himself and his wife to avoid capture (and likely torture/enslavement) by, I think, Attalus’ (Attalus’s? Argh.) forces at the Caicus River. In case you were interested. (I’m glad my history degree is useful for something.)

  18. Dan A says:

You’re all wrong. There’s another statue five feet to their left who’s pose their matching exactly.

  19. MST says:

What in the world has the guy got in his back pocket, a cantelope?

  20. MST says:

    Knock Knock
    Who’s there?
    Statue
    Statue Who?

  21. Pamela says:

I was thinking the same thing, NYRIA…lol!!

  22. Bill says:

…….Maybe the statue got it wrong?

  23. Maya B. says:

She looks like she’s on the verge of hurling…

  24. Nana says:

It would be amazing if they were just defending themselves from a boomerang or something.

  25. Nyria says:

Poor woman. She is clearly choking and he is trying to perform a violent heimlich. The photographer needs to step in and save them both!

  26. MN Nice says:

This was not a pose. Her back went out and he is calling to the tour guide to come back and help. Can’t you see she is in pain?

  27. Camille says:

This looks like Versailles to me. You’d think people would be more interested in looking at the pieces of art rather than trying (should I say failing ?) to imitate them :P

  28. SeƱor_Citizen says:

I’m just surprised no one has yet posted the ubiquitous “holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa” or “finger on the top of the Washington Monument” photos everyone always takes.
When in Italy or DC, of course.
With or without a compound bow.

  29. tracy says:

i think she is just laughing too hard to really concentrate on her pose, and i get that.

  30. Atticus says:

    there is a statue?

  31. I don’t know why this is funny – hip dysplasia is nothing to joke about.

  32. grimey says:

I think the female in the statue is imitating a compound bow….ZING!

    • Beth says:

So what’s with the running joke of “compound bow” here? I’ve only seen it on this blog, and I don’t get it (is it related to that picture of the family all holding crossbows?). Please explain it, someone. Thanks.

      • David says:

Check out the Popular Post “The Van Helsings” It is an iconic post for this site.

      • Seriously Distracted says:

Go to the photo “Van Helsings” and read the posts dated May 11th through May 12th to see how the cross bow /compound bow debate came into being. It was done to DEATH and a tradition was born.

      • Formica says:

Beth, keep looking back further in here. You’ll *know* when you get to the photo in mind. Awkward Gold, it is.

      • jh says:

Yep. The family was identified as holding crossbows, and 92467 people had to come post that those were not crossbows at all, they were obviously compound bows. It became a running joke, which was funny for a post or two, but is now tedious and lame.

        • Amy says:

what???? memes are never tedious and lame!!!

        • Beth says:

Oh, that family photo!! I thought it might be related to that photo (mostly girls or all girls, plus a mom and dad, all holding crossbows, right?), but I wasn’t sure.
I didn’t see the whole commentary with it, though, and I’m going to have to check it out now. :D

Thanks, David, Seriously Distracted, Formica, and jh. :]

    • Raffaello says:

      jajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajaja

      Not even close……………………………

  33. Gnarlo says:

    haha, almost…..

  34. Um....Greg says:

    BOHICA!!!

  35. Samantha says:

LOL! Its nothing like the statue and I LOVE IT! They should have put the travel brochure in the statue’s hand though, to make it look just a tad more convincing. Also, that statue needs some blue jeans of his own. Eek!

  36. Ter-ter says:

Whew! At least he left his clothes on!

  37. Joe says:

    Not even close

  38. Tim says:

Stan and Sheila are seen reenacting the statue of Gacy, the spurned Greek god that frequently bludgeoned his lovers to death with a rock.

  39. eeyore19 says:

Did the photographer just give up trying to tell them how to pose like the statues? I mean, the man’s close, but the woman…not so much.

  40. Master Jungle says:

    Lol.

  41. lucky says:

i believe i’ve seen this move in a club before.

  42. David says:

You can tell this was his idea.

  43. Carol says:

Fun idea, shame about the not achieving it part.
Is that a compound bow he’s performing there?

  44. DRockett says:

“Honey, are you sure you don’t want me to strip? It would be more authentic.”

  45. Dennis says:

Thank you for keeping your clothes on!!!!!!

  46. micah says:

not even close to an accurate representation

  47. Samael says:

    what statue?

  48. David says:

…makes you wonder why Europeans call Americans uncivilized.

  49. Jeneva says:

    not even close…..

  50. JerseyPam says:

    Terrific! LMAO
