Awkward Family Story: You Go Grandma
June 23rd, 2009
It was my granddaddy’s 80th birthday party. Of course, the rest of my family decided umpteen million pictures were in order beginning with the great-grandkids & granddad and eventually ending with my grandmother & grandfather sitting together. Well, when trying to position herself, my uber-conservative and naive grandmother said, “I should get on my knees as that’s where I’ve been my whole marriage.”
…AWKWARD.

And you go grandpa as well…
That is awkward, but then again, did your grandfather usually have a big smile?
HAHAHA, made my day!
..better to live on your knees than die on your feet, I always say!!
grandma ftw!
Grandma always did have a problem with her contacts staying in.
…What kind of non-sexual reference wa she really referring to? i was honestly trying to think of the non-dirty thing she was referring to,but i couldn’t….
I’m honestly stooped too. Is that bad? I mean are our minds so dirty, that we can’t think of the clean thing she was talking about?
Ummmm maybe she means….I have no idea.
um, praying maybe…?
Scrubbing and mopping floors?
Cleaning toilets and bath tubs?
…but, yeah, my mind went “there” too…
Prayer.
HAHAHA i can’t believe they posted my story. but yar. she meant that she was always on her knees as a servant/slave. but eventually she got why we were laughing so hard and called us all a bunch of dirty-minded scoundrels. okay, grandmom, okay.
Grandma’s right, we are a bunch of dirty-minded scoundreals!
Thanks, Kallie, for clearing that up for us
So where is the photo? There should be at least one photo out of the umpteen million; preferably one of your family’s reaction to her remark…
The most awkward part would have been when Grandma indicated that she understood what everyone was laughing about. Perhaps this vixen is not as naive as described. I’m just sayin’…
maybe she meant her hands and knees as in cleaning on her hands and knees.
Maybe cleaning…? Like, down on her knees scrubbing the floor? I don’t know.
I think she means that she’s been the submissive wife type, you know, that always does what her husband says (I don’t mean sexually) and spends all her time cooking, cleaning, etc. Or maybe he’s really stubborn and she has to beg and plead with him about stuff?
She’s probably using it as a metaphor to say that she’s been 2nd in command her whole marriage.
Or maybe she’s just referring to housework.
I’m guessing she meant kneeling for Mass in a Catholic church, and praying at random other times. Still amusing!
perhaps this was her attempt at referring to scrubbing floors and other various and sundry household chores.
she’s most likely talking about doing housework like scrubbing the floor.
I think she meant subservience, like a slave kneels before his master. I didn’t even think anything dirty until you all mentioned it!
uber-conservative?
My guess is prayer.
The judgment of naive can go both ways.
She’s innuendo naive, others are spiritually naive.
WTF? Pretty sure what you call ’spiritually naive’ is what other people call ‘believing differently than you do.’
Praying?
C’MON PEOPLE!
Scrubbing floors you pervs! lol. I don’t know, just a though.
or praying. Many people pray on their knees.
Really people. Grandma was referring to the fact she was on her knees scrubbing the floor(s). Duh!
On her knees meaning she’s been a domineered wife all her marriage is the first thing I thought of.
Well, since you did say that she was uber-conservative, I’m going to bet she was actually talking about praying. My crispy Christian mom would have said something like that. But the dirty take on it is hilarious!
Crispy? Like potato chips?
Scrubbing floors?
All I can think of is either praying or scrubbing floors, neither of which would seem applicable to her posing with Granddad… So I’m with you… she must’ve meant… well, you know…
maybe she was referring to a life of prayer……………….? that’s all i got…..my mind is too dirty.
Please read the other responses before you make your own response. Half of the responses to this story is the exact same guess about cleaning floors. It literally gave me a headache! Even the writer of the story responded and explained!
Anyway, this story is freakin hilarious!
they were all in moderation, so i don’t think people were able to read many of the posts before replying. i know personally, my reply didn’t show up for a couple of hours, but i appreciate your sentiment.
and glad you find it funny, as well (;
Oh SNAP, Grandma!
Oh SNAP, Melba!
too much information grandma!!!
You could take that in so many different ways!
i think the grandmother was probably referring to that in pictures she was always on her knees… like kneeling next her husband. its the simplest explanation. that was a very funny thing to say though
