Just the thought of the photographer helping this guy up on the roman column/piece of art (let’s face it, there’s no way he got up there all by himself!), and then handing him the fan and the Jane Austen-umbrella cracks me up bigtime!
The scene in my head would be a ginormous youtube-hit, move over star wars-kid!
i’ve got parasol skills . . . . lace fan skills . . . . marble column skills . . . . and i can draw a liger, it’s pretty much my favorite type of animal.
Okay, just by looks alone, I’m sure we can all agree this is the strangest photo we’ve ever seen…BUT what if you knew his history, and say he was the class clown and this was his senior superlative picture or something? I think it would be hilarious if he were that kind of person that would do this to MAKE FUN OF the type of people that actually do this!
What makes this photo for me is the self-satisfied smirk on his face. It’s almost as if when this picture was snapped he was thinking to himself, “At last! I’ve been able to take the photograph I’ve always wanted!”
I have to agree…there is certainly a look of satisfied triumph behind that fan…maybe someone argued with him about the way the photo should be done and he was able to convince them that his idea was superior…which clearly…it is
When I saw this picture first thing this morning, I found that the sheer joy and merriment that this brought to me was tinged with a touch of sadness. All because I knew my day could surely only decline from the stunning triumph that is this truly awkward photo. And I was right….*sigh*. Oh well, there is always tomorrow’s photo…
One more thing – I don’t know which disturbs me more – this kid and his posture, pedestal, bubble wrap/saran wrap on floor, etc., or the fake background. Looks like a Cajun funeral parlor. Creepy. Just how did he get up there anyway? A crane? Did someone pick him up and place him there, or did he use a chair to climb on himself? I must know.
I’m up past midnight already and now I have laughed so hard it will be an hour before I can even think about getting to sleep. This is one of my all time favorites.
No Awkward Family Photo comment section is complete without Cross/Coumpond bow or regulation size casserole dish jokes! They never get old…. even when they’re used over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and……. etc.

You gotta do something outstanding when you don’t have a date to the prom.
This is SO GREAT! ONLY on AFP could we have an entire community of people with their own inside jokes (Casserole, Crossbows) who don’t know eachother.
God bless the Information Age!
Oh my god! That poor child.
If only the poor lad had been given a wolf shirt.
true that
I actually work at a retail photo studio and this even makes ME cringe!
“I have always relied on the kindness of strangers…”
STELLA!!!!!
Uh wow. There are really no words.
Please ignore the earlier post. Here’s the scoop:
See “Meet The Sterns” from 7/16/09
and
“The Third Wheel” from 7/15/09
Things will then have come full circle. The light of understanding will shine. Bwa Ha Ha Ha!
Correction: It’s “Meet The Sterns” on 7/16/09…

You can just picture some budget photography studio. Hmmm this might work

best comment yet!
“They told me to act natural.”
hahahahaha awesome.
“Shutup! The photo guy said it was like a ninja fan…”
This is what happens when ‘Truth or Dare’ goes horribly awry.
He’s just chillin’ on his marble column. You mean, you guys don’t have those in your living room?
HAHAHAhahhAHHA….
….
HAHAHAHahaHAH!!!
This is one of the best photos I’ve seen on this site! I love how his feet are so far from the ground!
that poor, poor boy . although he doesn’t look like he really has a problem with it …
Parisols and fans aren’t just for women anymore!
I think he is cute, I would date him… In fact, I may have…
Is your real name Bob?
Dude, my bro’s are going to be so freaking jealous when they see my awesome glamour shot! Hells Yeah!

His prom date had to third-wheel with another couple….
Clearly there has to be a better way to inform your parents that you will not be taking a girl to the prom!
BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA. Thank you Lori
Classic!!
Yeah…subtle kid…very subtle…
Exactly!
Mom. Dad. We need to talk.
gotta love the toe-points!!
this is one self-confident guy!
what makes me laugh harder is picturing a tiny old man lifting him up so he could sit.
i need a “where are they now” update on this boy.
I’m thinking this was taken to impress his girlfriend.
This has GOT to be the new t-shirt!
I’m thinking of using it as my facebook profile pic.
Damn, I was thinking the same thing! elegant yet playful

To be honest, I’m loving the legs.
It’s the pointed foot that does it.
His tie is crooked. That makes me uncomfortable.
HA HA HA HA HA!!! LOVE this comment!!
o. m. g. this is the best picture i have ever seen.

Just know that someone, somewhere is enjoying this awkward photo when the sun is setting on us.
The plastic drop cloth is in case he can’t get down to make it to the bathroom…
Can’t. Stop. Laughing.
i get it. looks perfectly normal to me.
Is it raining? Is it hot? Should I bring an umbrella or a fan? I just don’t know. I just don’t know.
LOL
LOL best comment!
Strange….very strange.
Sometimes I wonder if people take awkward pics on purpose just to get on this site. This seems way too awkward to be a serious picture.
I doubt this was taken on purpose just for this site, it looks like it was taken several years ago.

how DID he get up there? a special mini staircase? scaffolding?
YOU’RE RIGHT!! What the HELL is under that saran wrap anyway??
I think it is a plastic lace floor
I’m up past midnight already and now I have laughed so hard it will be an hour before I can even think about getting to sleep. This is one of my all time favorites.
Please someone I NEED a Backstory on this LOL
yeah – and are people realy called Trevin in America?!
Where was this photog going? English, oriental or Roman clearly someone was confused, and it’s definitely not the subject of the image!
Wow. Just wow.
All he needs now is a watermelon, and a regulation size casserole dish.
Hahah that regulation casserole dish gets me every time!

Haha. My thoughts exactly.
i actually think this might be a photo from a play. maybe they took some stills and he’s in “character”?
We can only hope that’s the case.
It is sad if it isn’t!
If this is a play, why don’t I hear music?
Who cares! It is perhaps the greatest photo that has ever been taken.
A pair of ice skates would complete the ensemble.
Best. Comment. Ever.
I concur.
Anybody should know that a lace fan does not go with that type of parasol, it clearly should be a compound bow if not a cross bow!
FUNNY! very funny ……
You’re almost as funny as the guy who wouldn’t stop the “I like turtles” posting. Almost…
no it shouldn’t.
a pillar? Really now.
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!…and two
chim chimeries!
Nice one.
I no longer need my anti depressants. This photo has cured me.
Laughed so hard, coffee came out of my nose and all over my keyboard!
well you took my words and caused me to through my own out… whew
LOL!
Great comment, amy!
LOL
I second the “no need for anti-depressants” LOL
Ha, I third it.
I can’t stop laughing!
Seriously, I think this could be the new Rick Roll!
