Awkward Family Story: The Ornament
July 13th, 2009
For Christmas my moms entire side of the family gets together. One Christmas when the family was exchanging gifts, my great aunt came over to thank me for the ornament I gave her. She said thank you then took a second look at me and my cousin sitting next to me and told us we’d make a cute couple. No one really knew what to say. Awkward.

My grandpa has said that to me and my cousin too, always in front of the entire family. Everyone just pauses in awkward silence and hopes he’s just drunk and not actually meaning that.
Hahahahaha! Sounds like auntie might be going a bit senile. LOVE THE STORIES!
thats the best story on here! haha!!
is there an option to skip the stories? really not amusing at all
yes, when you see there are words and no picture, skip it if you don’t want to read it
Keep the stories, pleeease. They add another great dimension to this.
Haha.
This is so “Arrested Development”.
Love it.
Hmmmmm, sounds like another case of not enough branches on the family tree.
Keep it in the family!!!!!
awkward would be the ensuing family reunions.
I recently attended my cousins debutante ball with a group of various family members, aunts, uncles and cousins, and my mom said more than once my cousin R. and i would make a good couple.
for the love of all that is holy please stop posting these lame, poorly-composed stories.
Don’t make me take out my cross-bow…
Sounds like your family tree is a family wreath.
haaaaaaaaaaaa!
Some people just need to understand what it was like in the “good ole days” which is why some family trees don’t branch out much.
Boring!
Ewww.
hahahaha how awkward! this makes me happy i have a small family…
Well, George Michael and Mae Bea WOULD have made a cute couple; perhaps auntie is onto something.
even MORE awkward that you continued this terrible misspelling. It’s MAEBY!!!!!
Nothing awkward about that in my state (West-by-gawd-Virginia) where the graduating class of a high school has been known to have 62 family members out of 65 students.
At a family reunion, a distant relative told my sister she should meet her grandson…
Yep, that’s an awkward one alright!
Auntie had a little too much egg nog!
LOL! that sounds right out of arrested development. (In case you don’t know the reference George Michael, get a crush on his cousin Mae Bea, and there are a lot of joke references on how they should get together. – not all by George Michael himself.)
Haha that was totally my thought when I read this Arrested development anyone?
It’s awkward that you spelled Mae Bae instead of Maeby.
Okay – that was awkward. LoL!
No one can refute the awkwardness of this story.
Yes, now THIS is an awkward family story!
Love the photos on this site, but really – the stories add nothing as far as I can see. My vote is to stick with the pics!!
If you don’t like them, don’t read them. I personally think they are funny.
I agree, they just fill in space
Nuts!!! Were we having a vote and I missed it!!!???
The stories are awesome, and often far more awkward than some of the photos.
And they’re easy to skip over if you don’t like them.
Keep the stories coming, I say! Regulation-size casserole dishes all around!
Laurie, I laughed out loud…that was the best story by far.
ITA! I have shared that story with a few who were unfamiliar with AFP.
Sure not all the stories are well written or as awkward as some of the pictures but nobody is making you read them. Keep m coming!
Agreed – there’s not always a camera handy when a relative busts out an awkward moment…
Is there any other size?
Oversized blue ones.
They might make a cute couple, but their kids would be the true wonders of the family.
nice, real nice
kissing cousins?
