What about a stump doesn’t scream unity and togetherness?

Is that Bobby Hill?
What’s bothering me is that I like this photo. What’s bothering me even more is that I’m from Brooklyn NY and live in the middle of nowhere in TX now and LIKE this photo. That’s really the scary thing for me.
The pose looks SO FREAKING AWKWARD !! Why oh Why do photographers do this to people!?!
The sad thing is, that kid picked on ME in grade school.
is that kid the one that had the clarinet playing version of himself floating in his head? cause they look alike
Is this famed crossword puzzle constructor Merl Reagle? Look him up on Google Images. Also try: Merl Reagle Marie (his wife)
I can’t be sure, but he does look similar.
And on some enchanted autumn evenings, the Bearded Man rises from his stump and finds his long lost family..
“I’m a genie in a stump, you gotta rub me the right way”
Ah, this one is nice! I think they look genuinely happy.
Legally, the stump is their second son.
The plastic bear claw necklace on the kid really makes it authentic looking.
err, *a perfectly good stump
I can’t believe that perfectly good stump went to waste in this picture. There should totally be a family member doing a leaning armshelf on it.
Not too awkward as compared to some of the pictures on this site.
tracing their family stump…
What is the technical term for the boy’s pose? Leg Shelf, or stump shelf?
Not quite a knee shelf, but definitely the little boy “Hey! I’m showering in here” pose.
“Hey! I’m showering in here!” funny!
according to the rule book, its a leg (or knee) shelf—technically, not enough of the boy’s toe is touching the stump to make it a true stump shelf.
I can’t believe there hasn’t been any comments about the “KNEE SHELF” !!
That observation has just left me *wait for it* STUMPED! ha!
I particularly like the fierce pose the little boy is striking. You can tell he loves being part of a wild west family. I bet they wear wolf t-shirts too.
Wolf t-shirts! YA!
What was the photographer thinking?? From a photographer’s standpoint, the stump would be the perfect staging ground for composition, but someone needs to be sitting on it, flanked by the others.
you’re right, it does not odd that there’s that big empty spot with no one sitting on it.
I do not think it’s that funny? well I guess the placement of the stump is a bit awkward.
I think this is sweet! They seem like a very happy family
Hmmm…it’s missing something….like a pet raccoon or a hound on the stump.
totally
They cut down their family tree.
You got to nip it in the bud.
Kid is rocking some sweet Jordans.
Birds of a feather, with their offspring. I especially like the bear claw necklace around blueboy’s neck.
LOL Denise- That’s what I was going to say also!
“EVERYBODY GATHER ‘ROUND THE FAMIY STUMP!”
Their family tree got cut a tad bit short…
Now THAT’s a funny comment. Love it.
I’m not sure WHAT to say about this one …. I’m *stumped*. ;-p
HA!
What is around that kid’s neck?
Looks like an arrowhead necklace. All the cool kids are wearing them.
the dad is wearing one too…like father like son, I guess.
No, the Dad is wearing a Medicine Wheel.
I wonder if their native gear is native made or fake.
The pic gives me a chuckle, but if he knows what a medicine wheel even is, then good for him!
U got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em…know when to walk away – and know when to RUN!
1ST!
not so much
Is the stump really the most awkward part of this photo?
Without his cowboy boots the boy’s only half dressed.
Nothing particularly awkward about this. If you think it’s awkward, you’re probably not comfortable with the hats, either.
Yes. I’m afraid of hats.
LOL.
Now I’m gonna have hat nightmares.
Take another look at that kid and tell me it’s not awkward!
The stump is like an unwelcome intruder, cutting off the dude’s legs. It could have been used to seat one of them and the picture composed around it.
Nothing says authentic cowboy like black high-top Reeboks!
Exactly what I was thinking! LOL!
Don’t forget Mom’s 80s print denim vest…where the heck did she find that one?
She kept it since then.
actually, i think it’s a jacket. same diff
Don’t forget the jewelry made from plastic claws and beads.
Yeah… the “jewelry” is… Interesting.
Well on the awkward scale, I’d give it a 3, mostly due to the stump.
Dad prefered his wooden leg to look natural in the family photos–
I think they rubbed this stump and this little cowboy genie came out. That’s what I think.
Hahahahahaha!!!!!
Yup, this is the one we decoreated fer last Christmas! Ma cut’er down by herself!~
This picture would be better if they all were growing from the stump.
Is that a ten gallon hat or you just enjoying the awkwardness?
You win best comment!!!
YEEEEE-HAAAAAAW
