This is a picture of someof the members of india’s laughing club. the guy in the bottom right corner is the dr. who invented it and the woman next to him is his wife. there are hundreds of laughing clubs in india and through out other countries.
Yea, this is from a laughter yoga camp. The guy in the orange is Dr. Kataria who came up with the concept. The only awkward thing is his horrible toupee
the man in the orange sweater is literally a laughter Guru. he teaches a whole spiritual path in india based on laughter as a means to enlightenment. i cannot remember his name, but he was in a documentary called ‘enlighten up’ that came out this summer about yoga.
prolly grampa in the back told some hilarious, but straight-faced, joke right before the pic was taken. =) photographer did a great job capturing real laughter. it’s so real it looks fake!
i guess it’s not really “awkward,” but it made me smile and laugh, and that is why i visit this website!
sooo true jessica. funny thing is, what is more awkward than their incessant whining?? people, if you dont like the site/pics/comments, then save yourself the stress, and steer clear of it all. toodles!
It’s awkward because:
-Dad in the back clearly does not approve of his daughters choice of a husband.
-Her brothers in the back know this and think its funny, but I think they like him.
-She is very happy with a genuine smile.
-Blond haired husband feels so out of place and uncomfortable and can’t wait to get back to the good ole USA, but he is faking having a good time (badly) for his wife’s sake.
The most awkward part is that guy in the retina-burning orange shirt. He seems so uncomfortable here it’s palpable. He’s laughing like, “oh my, what am I doing here? Who ARE these people?! Did you say we got married last night? That’s it, I’m serious this time – no more drinking after 8 o’clock, although I might need one or two tonight to get over the shock of THIS! But then, after that, no more!”
I really like this picture. It shows people being happy, on a spectrum of genuine-ness. It isn’t awkward, except for the indecision in what the expected day’s temperature would be. We have short sleeves, the layered look, and a long-sleeve sweater. Still, it is a nice picture.
oh yes he’s rocking it! and since there is probably more than one photoshoot for the day he was the smart one and bought a stick on mustache to tape up his top lip. this way he can smile all day!
i think i would have gone with the heading “ROY G BIV , i presume ? who’s laughing now ?” and left it at that. it would have been funny to those of us who remember what roy g biv is.
ROY G BIV…….LOL – they are totally rockin the rainbow! I didn’t notice that until you pointed it out! The guy with the turban is ticked that he picked today, of all days, to don the violet-colored pants!
This is a superb, over-the-top example of one of the most common awkward elements in pictures. The false, dry-toothed smile appears in awkward family-, and especially self-, portraiture.
I get a little sick seeing groups of college girls clinging to each other’s shoulders and holding their canned “smiles” for picture after Facebook picture. False elation does not sit well on my stomach.
The man in Orange is Dr. Madan Kataria and the woman next to him is his wife Dr. Madhuri Kataria. They are the founders of laughter yoga. It is practiced all over the world and is high respected. The reason their laughter may look fake is because it probably is. It has been found that creating forced laughter has the same effect on the body and mind as real laughter.
***Any comments that are offensive to the point of being viciously personal, racist, homophobic, exceedingly profane, violent or too graphic in nature won't be posted. We want to keep this site a friendly place to be awkward. Thanks!***
afp
they’re doing a fake laugh because they just found out they can’t haggle the price of the photograph
OMG. The guy in the middle with the turban looks like my old math teacher!!
The guy on top left looks like my Science teacher!! DX

The guy in the middle? Not amused. Not. Amused. At. All.
I was laughing so hard at all of your comments that my neighbour called to see if I needed help – she heard me screaming. omg, I can’t breathe.
They just put indigo in there so the acronym has a vowel and makes sense. What’s the difference between blue and indigo anyways?
Ahmed clearly doesn’t get the joke.
the man in the orange sweater is literally a laughter Guru. he teaches a whole spiritual path in india based on laughter as a means to enlightenment. i cannot remember his name, but he was in a documentary called ‘enlighten up’ that came out this summer about yoga.
It is hard to get past the violent orange sweater to have a look at the rest of the photo.
the older gent in the back must be the “black sheep” in this jolly family
Not awkward but completely bizarre.
The Wise Man in the back is just not playing along!
The Indian ad for united colors of bannaton.
Together we light up the dark!
prolly grampa in the back told some hilarious, but straight-faced, joke right before the pic was taken. =) photographer did a great job capturing real laughter. it’s so real it looks fake!

My 3 1/2 yr old just came up and burst out laughing. She said, “That’s silly!” “And they’re laughing.” lol.
It’s a Laughter Yoga class.
The guy in the yellow shirt looks like Mean Gene Okerlund from 80′s WWF wrestling.
oh my god, it’s the Wiggles.
GUY IN ORANGE = FAKE LAUGHER!
you can easily tell…I can even see him sayin “guys, let’s laugh out loud to take a beautiful picture….hahahaha (fake laugh)”
then, the others laughed for real, except the guru, because gurus never laugh
They’re like a glorious box of crayons!
Haha. I actually laughed out loud at the guy in the front. There’s just something about his expression that Im finding HILARIOUS!!!!
Grampa isn’t laughing, because he didn’t hear the joke.
I’m getting sick of the awkward snobs…go to another site, good grief, its all in fun!!!
THANK YOU!!!! I AGREE!!!!
Yesssssssssssss!
sooo true jessica. funny thing is, what is more awkward than their incessant whining?? people, if you dont like the site/pics/comments, then save yourself the stress, and steer clear of it all. toodles!
preach it sistah
this is the “laughing” version of ‘the cheese stands alone.’
Oh my gosh!
It’s like that one laughter yoga guy!
Great picture.
okay, is that sweater color for REAL? Talk about blinding—
This is totally awkward! “Ok, everybody LAUGH on 3. Ready, 1, 2…”
What color does red and yellow make? Yes, orange – very good!!!
the guy in the yellow shirt has a photshopped mustache(i hope)
The old “pull my finger” ploy is funny in any language. Way to go Beardman !!
Why is this awkward again? Really reaching with this one…
it either has to do with the guy in the middle not getting the joke or the dude in the orange getting a little too into the concept
This site is really hit or miss.
I don’t know why these people are so happy, but this photo actually makes me feel happier.
Beardman is ADORABLE.
(Seconded. )

keep it up Bonnie.
You forgot, “And why am I wearing a SWEATER?! Is this even MINE!?”
I’m at work trying to hold in my laughter at this comment!!!!
I really like this picture. It shows people being happy, on a spectrum of genuine-ness. It isn’t awkward, except for the indecision in what the expected day’s temperature would be. We have short sleeves, the layered look, and a long-sleeve sweater. Still, it is a nice picture.
Oh, I don’t know, that orange sweater is awfully awkward. I am totally digging, however, the fellow in the yellow and red. He’s rockin’ it.
oh yes he’s rocking it! and since there is probably more than one photoshoot for the day he was the smart one and bought a stick on mustache to tape up his top lip. this way he can smile all day!
The guy in the middle didn’t think it was funny.
All I see is happy people who happen to smile with their mouths open (minus one).
Are they standing outside of a prison? Looks like barbed wire around the building in the background. Could this be nervous laughter of hostages?
I am laughing, fakely, after viewing this image.
Very awkward. They’re all laughing at the orange sweater guy and he doesn’t know why.
I have that sweater, which is not that awkward, EXCEPT, that I’m a woman and bought it in a woman’s department store.
See if you can spot the person holding a crossbow. Hint, it’s the person laughing at you just before they go on a murderous crossbow rampage.
cooooommmmmmppppppoooooouuuuunnnnnddddd bbbbboooooowwwwww
au contraire… the crossbow is being hidden under the older gentleman’s turban…that’s why he’s not smiling. Crossbows are itchy
“holding a compwned bow”, please.
i think i would have gone with the heading “ROY G BIV , i presume ? who’s laughing now ?” and left it at that. it would have been funny to those of us who remember what roy g biv is.
hahaha good one
I like that they look happy
red orange yellow green blue indigo violet!
LOL. I didn’t even notice the clothing.
ROY G BIV…….LOL – they are totally rockin the rainbow! I didn’t notice that until you pointed it out! The guy with the turban is ticked that he picked today, of all days, to don the violet-colored pants!
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet!. What do I win??
nothing, cuz you forgot INDIGO!!
…and you didn’t pose your answer in the form of a question.
ROY G BIV is the BEST!
4 of these things belong together
1 of these things just isn’t the same
can you guess which 4 belong together
can you guess which 1 isn’t the same
It is most definitely forced laughter. Except the guy in the middle whose expression pretty much sums up how the others are really feeling.
Agreed.
None of the laughers look fake enough to make this awkward.
agreed, they look happy. Not awkward at all
This is a picture of people laughing.. there’s literally nothing awkward. NOTHING. Kind of like that email from the Uncle.
Everyone *is* laughing, except the guy with the beard in the back.
Take a chill pill.

I could not agree with you more. I just totally agree. “Fakeness”
(running around gathering up equine corpses to flog)
OMG It’s a totally Photo-shopped Regulation-Size Compound RainBow!
