This is hysterical. The girl’s expression is priceless almost as if she had known that one day this photo would be seen by more than just family and friends. Lovely picture!
This is the most precious, delightful picture ever, and from the responses I’ve read, looks like we’re all about to go out and get some lil unscented chubster skunks right now.
I’d just love to cuddle him! So squeezie! And the way he’s *posing* for the picture is priceless. You can tell what a sweet thing he is. That is one lucky little girl!
my grandfather had a skunk as a pet when he was really young, one day his mom had all the church ladies over for tea and he thought it would be a good idea to send in the skunk……. lol
about 20 little old church ladies came flying out of that house!
I actually love this photo! So deliciously wierd! I wonder if, as an adult, she finds it funny or embarassing? It’s really funny and wierd in the best way.
Upon seeing this, I immediately e-mailed my 90 year old grandmother to remind her about the “pet skunk” that I was absolutely DYING to get from our local pet store — about 35 years ago. Just wanted her to feel guilt and remorse knowing that I could have been that smug little girl and she would have had a fabulous family picture. As I remember, the skunk was descented and shared a cage with the “free to a good home” kittens at the pet store. The skunk was NOT free; I think he was $60 – a princely sum back then! On the one hand, I am glad that it is no longer in vogue to buy exotic pets (or puppies or kittens) from pet stores; however, going to the local pet store “just to look” was a highlight of my childhood.
What a sweet little girl. My rural cousins had a skunk as a pet (it was “de-skunked” by the vet – I guess he removed the scent sacs from his body), and it was quite sweet and docile, just like a cat. I still think it’s a bad idea to take any undomesticated animal in as a pet, though, ’cause you never know when their wild instincts might kick in.
Skunks do make great pets — I know a guy who had one. Used to skid down the stairs on a board he put there, then run back up to do it again and again. She slept with him.
I have two pet skunks and I can verify that they are the cutest, sweetest, cuddliest animals on earth. Also, no cuter baby animal (you usually get them very young so they imprint)! This little girl had the bestest friend growing up, I can tell. (Yes, they also sleep with us! And demand snuggles!)
Danger, skunks make dangerous pets. They cannot be vaccinated against rabies and are frequent carriers of the disease. Even if descented, they are a time bomb.
This picture is really sweet. Reminds me of my mother in law as she was always the “nurse” to any animal the kids brought home. prarie dogs, sugar gliders, etc.
Hahaha, I had a skunk when I was little. I have a picture of me somewhere just in a diaper crawling on my knees and the skunk was riding on my back, I was like, three.
Her name was Rosy, ironically… and she got hit by a train. Oh sadness…
I had a pet skunk when I was about 12. My cousins had found a litter of babies in their shed and gave me one, it had been de-scented. I tamed her, named her “posey”, she used a litter box and was a wonderfull, cute pet.
This picture might be creepy if it were an adult holding the skunk. However, this little girl is so precious! She is so stinkin’ cute (no pun intended. really) that the skunk looks cute sitting in her arms.
This could be my daughter ,except she is a brunette. Our skunk was named “Sweet Shot” She was an adorable pet. Followed the kids all over the yard and got along well with our Siamese cat. They used to sleep together.
That skunk is beyond cute, although it does appear to need a nail trim. I’ve wanted a skunk for as long as I remember, we were considering getting one until we found some some abandoned kittens and decided to keep them instead.
I was ABSOLUTELY SHOCKED to come across this picture. Who posted this for the first time? It appears to be circulating the internet. This is a picture of MY MOM as a kid. She’s 70 this year.
Oops. disregard the above. I showed the picture to my mom, this isnt her. Wow, it looks like her, though, and she loved her pet skunk “Gunkie” that she had at that age. They found it as a baby and had its scent glands removed. Once it ran away for a day, and my grandfather thought he saw it, near the back porch, late at night. He tried to entice Gunkie to come home by quickly whipping up the skunk’s favorite food, scrambled eggs. When he got close enough to the skunk to offer it the eggs, he realized that it wasn’t his daughter’s pet when it sprayed him full in the face.

*raises eyebrow at Andi*
I wish that I knew you were being sarcastic, but alas, I fear that you’re serious.
I’m with Andi, I think. The skunk is cute. Then again, I also think ferrets are cute.
Elmira And Fifi Le Fume: The Early Years.
HaHa- Thanks for the Tiny Toons reference, made my day.
Thank god it’s not a cabbage patch doll. Or that there’s an extra large picture of the skunk in the background hovering. She looks sweet actually.
As my youngest daughter just said
“Aw that’s a cute little puppy … that’s a skunk”
Even if you did it, you can always blame the skunk.
lol
to coin a great Beatles song- Everybody’s got something to hide, except me and my skunkie!
Awww, they are both cute. My dad and i wanted a skunk 40 years ago. My mom won.

Girl, stay away from the woman in the “Spic and Span” entry!
Yeah, cute and squeezie until he bites her face off or sprays a foul smelling stench.
I wonder what the photographer’s reaction was to a girl showing up for a photo shoot with a skunk-must have been priceless!
This was not an awkward photo at all. However, the photo taken of her little brother holding his pet jellyfish WAS awkward.
“Happy Birthday, Mommy. Remember the pumpkin photo?”
“And after they take your picture Sweetie we’ll need to stop by Doc Parker’s to get your rabies shots.”
HA! HA! HA! Haven’t stopped laughing since I put it up weeks ago – needed it for my ab exercises – HA! HA! HA!
You can remove the “stinker” of a skunk.. plus they can be trained to use the litter box. =)
I think that is a badger…not a skunk…(no less creepy, I’ll grant you…)
I actually love this photo! So deliciously wierd! I wonder if, as an adult, she finds it funny or embarassing? It’s really funny and wierd in the best way.
I think it is funny….
They’re both little stinkers.
Skunks make GREAT pets! I love this picture. I used to want a skunk so bad and it looks like this little girl is pretty smug about having one!

Actually this is really sweet. Poor skunks get such a bad rap. This is a cute picture!
I have a feeling her nickname was “stinky”…..

Oh my god, “Me and my Skunk!” That could totally be a song!

Are we related..you look like one of my cousins who had a pet skunk what would be the chances?

awww that’s so cute, even if it is a skunk! She looks like she loves him and wants to show him off to everyone
Too adorable :3

OMG… this seriously looks like me when I was a kid…
..and I totally would have been all about taking a picture with a skunk.
