Behind the Awkwardness: Splash

Claire n658425205_375251_1827

This is my mom, dad and brother in Sydney. Posing on a bridge, my brother set the camera on timer, and ran back to join my parents. However, he had too much momentum and fell back into the pond.”

  8. James says:

I wonder if the designers of the art wall in the background KNEW someone would fall in and that’s why the carved a giant splash into the middle of their mural

  9. Karin says:

Oh that is too funny. Ha ha ha! It’s made even more funny to me as I know exactly this spot in front of the Chinese Gardens at Darling Harbour and have myself done almost the exact same thing. It’s a low bridge! I wonder what the goldfish thought?? LOL!!!

It looks like the 2 Dragons are laughing, and are in mid stride to give a “High-5″ to each other in celebration, of the human splash.

  12. Rui Xuan says:

Haha…and he fell BACK into the pond???!!!Claire, you mean he already fell into the pond?

    • Askance says:

No, she means he fell backwards into the pond … clearly he spun around and tried to sit facing the camera, trusting the laws of Cartoon Physics would cancel his momentum.

  13. Julie B says:

Perfectly timed shot. I love time delays!!!

  14. Chajiko says:

Here I am on AFP instead of writing my paper–and now everyone in the library is wondering why I’m sitting here laughing so hard that I have tears running down my face. This picture is possibly the funniest thing I have seen in years. XD

  15. TattingChic says:

This is totally awesome! What a great photo!

  16. SplashLawg says:

What makes it funnier is that pond is quite shallow

  17. Rudekid says:

I find it very funny that the mom appears to be laughing too!

This is in the beautiful Chinese Gardens, in the city, in Darling Harbour. Didn’t anyone tell them to beware the carp in the pond? The carp are very tricky … they have shepherd’s crooks, and they hook tourists around the neck, very gently, so gently that the person can’t even feel it … and hoik them backwards into the water!

Did your familiy take any photos of the kangaroos hopping down George Street?

    Greetings from Sydney …

I think the funniest part to me is that the submitter (Claire) was not invited on this family vacation!

    • Claire says:

Uh, yeah, I totally agree, while I was in college, my family was galavanting around Australia! I have to admit though, even after years of seeing this photo, I can’t stop laughing. Classic.

p.s. it’s not the first (or second) time he’s fallen into a pond.

  24. Matt says:

Wow! This is almost too amazing for words—almost.
