It’s easy to overlook momentum.
This is awesome. Love the looks on your parent’s faces!
He’s down under … the water!!!
Quite the Australian tribute to….China is it?
Yep, Chinese Gardens, a tourist trap in Darling Harbour (itself a tourist trap)
Chinese Government gave the gardens as a gift to Australia for our Bicentennial in 1988.
this is so funny! i love the look on moms face. i think maybe she had something to do with the whole “accident”.
I agree! It’s like she’s saying, ‘Yes!! It worked! He’s gone!” Awesome.
Self-imposed swirlies are the worst kind of humiliation.
That’s funny!
The Russian Judges openly and brazenly berated him before deducting 2 points on his dismount.
Something I’m surprised I’ve never done….
“Oo, look…50 cents!”
Either that or he wanted a closer look at the koi
Notice how the water is swirling clockwise?
I love this one !! so funny !! and your mom seems to have a good laugh coming !!
You can tell dad is laughing too! Hilarious.
D’OH!!!!!
It appears that Mom is laughing, which makes this all the more better.
Or possibly screaming in fear.
Either way, thumbs up.
I hope this wasn’t the piranha pond!
Mom has the same look on her face that I would have. It’s all fun and games till someone gets hurt. Then it’s HILARIOUS!
This will be one of their most cherished vacation memories ever. I only wish I had a picture of when my mom fell off the golf cart.
Claire’s brother- “Mom. Dad. You know my childhood hero was Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter. Since we are in Sydney I’ve decided to honor his legacy. I will attempt to hang upside down from this rail and feed the dangerous and man-eating monsters in this pool.”
Dad- “Son, that’s a coi fish pool.”
One of the most perfect awkward photos ever!!!
this is definitely in the top 10 for “Awkward Photo of the Year” (which is a competition I hope we’ll see in the month of December on this blog.
This is great! In our family it’s mum who usually winds up in the muddle, tho’…
This is the most amazing photo ever. The camera went off at the absolute perfect moment. Gosh I love it.
comedy is all about the timing.
Priceless!
This one wins
Dropping the highest and lowest scores, we have:
Russian judge: 8.7
American judge: 9.2
French judge: 8.9
Chinese judge: 9.3
British judge: 8.8
AFP judge: 9.9
Yes! He’s done it! He wins GOLD!
I have a photo of myself in front of the same panel. Have to say, I prefer this “action” shot to my standard tourist pose!
BTW, the koi in that pond are HUGE. Are we sure the brother made it out of the water?
All time favorite photo EVER!
How is this an awkward family photo?! It’s an AMAZING family photo. It’s perfect.
I love how the parents are cracking up!
I have almost the same picture of my youngest son when he fell backwards into a planter at Disneyland, except no one else in the picture (including the giant Chip & Dale) noticed that he’d fallen and are all posing happily. I oughta dig that picture out…
You should. It sounds awesome.
Please please!!
Oh do share!!!
Best pic ever!!
Well, at least he set the timer to go off at the perfect moment!!!
Win!
You can’t imagine how much I needed a good laugh today The only thing better would be seeing it in person. Thanks for posting!
What an amazing picture and story.
I love this – not only for the photo, but for the explanation. How many times have we wondered about the backstory? Thanks, Claire.
Too funny. As a parent I can say I’d probably be laughing too. I hope he wasn’t hurt, but it is the look on the parent’s faces that makes the photo.
if only it was a video camera instead. You could have made a pretty penny submitting it to America’s Funniest Home Videos
This picture is awesome. Love the parents’ expressions. Actually laughed out loud for this one!
Poor guy.. but it’s hilarious!!
By far, one of the funniest photos ever! Love mom’s reaction! And the feet sticking out on top of the rail just crack me up!
Michael Scott feels your pain.
I love that episode!!!
This isn’t awkward – It’s awesome!
The lengths some people will go to to find their lost contact lens…
“It’s not reality, it’s awkwardality!”
Plants that arise out of the water in the orient will eat you!
that is soooo funny the mom has got this look on her face that saya “Oh I want to laugh but, then again I don’t” “Jimmy wait for mee!” lol
Trip to Sydney….$2000.
Camera and tripod….$500.
Admission to tourist site….$50.
Being reminded of this embarassing moment at every family gathering including those held after your death….priceless.
Enough with the Visa commercial jokes they aren’t funny. Also it doesn’t cause 50 dollars to get in there.
Cost, rather
actually, they’re MasterCard commercials, and by the way, who cares? maybe they are overused, but the site is supposed to stay fun (and friendly)…
Excellent!!!
And he stuck the landing!
This is one of the greatest photos ever. Right there behind the “axe tan” guy from a few months ago, and the dude on the toilet smiling with his family.
Excellent. The great follow-up shot would have been of the walk back to the car.
