Behind The Awkwardness: I Ain’t Afraid Of No Ghosts
December 9th, 2009
“I’m the boy in the picture with my family. Apparently, the ghostbusters craze got the best of my mom and she made us walk through the mall in those stupid shirts to get our picture taken. From the look on my sister’s face, I don’t think she was too thrilled with the whole idea either.”

Wow…I meant to say that the comments are making me LAUGH so hard!!
Ok you guys…I am married to Trevor and reading all of your comments are making so hard that I have tears coming down my face! All of your comments rock!
The funniest thing about this is that Trevor got an angry email from his sister yesterday – someone in her office got an email with a bunch of pictures from this website and said “Hey…isn’t that Yvette??” Now she’ll never live it down.
Really…they (we) are a very normal family. However, my mother-in-law still made all the grandkids pose with Santa until they were teenagers. (I should send in some of those pictures…talk about happy campers!) My mother-in-law is awesome and creates a LOT of laughter for the family, that’s for sure!
Ok you guys…I have something really funny to add! This past year for Christmas, my sister-in-law (the girl in this picture) and her family (4 kids…) all got new Ghostbusters shirts and had family pictures done again! The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!
What a great photo! Trevor, you were so cute.
I just bought a Ghostbusters shirt myself, but more for nostalgic reasons and not to take pictures in. I’d be embarassed if my dad turned up in one and was like, “Hey, now we’re twins!”
This is even funnier because I recognize the dad. I won’t let on who it is so Trevor can continue to live in obscurity, put that walk of shame through the mall behind him and continue to contribute to AFP
Nothing awkward about this, Ghostbusters are awesome!
That’s the coolest mom of all time! Ghostbusters family! It almost brings a tear to my eye… I love this picture, and not for ironic reasons. Awesome!
Now THIS is good stuff!
The funny thing is, they’re not even really shirts. They’re more like quasi-tank tops. Ha ha! I love it!
The only thing better than the matching Ghostbusters t-shirts are the matching dress shirts worn under the matching Ghostbusters t-shirts.
The only thing missing is the Sta-Puff marshmellow man.
I like the fact that not only are they ghost busters shirts they are ghost busters “muscle” shirts.
“It’s true, your honor …”
Oh man, I snagged one just like those at Wal-Mart, but it wasn’t vintage. If you still have that shirt, I’ll totally take it from you! lol. Totally awesome.
Trevor u should send in the updated family pic, 25 yrs later.
Trev, it’s simple, man – when someone looks at this picture and asks if you’re a god for taking it, You…Say…YES!!
omg, hilarious! Props to Trevor for being a good sport and smiling to make his mom happy.
come on dude…you look STOKED. you were into it. dont lie. and I wish somehow alf was incorporated. that is all.
Life was different before the Internet became available to the public.
Trevor, your mom is chock-full of awesomeness. Not gonna lie. Pretty jealous that you guys got to take a photo in those shirts.
Trevor’s mom is a deadringer for Julie from “The Loveboat”. Trevor, your family is way beyond awesome.
Dude, yer mom was hot! I thought they were both your sisters when I first saw it.
On the Jay Leno show tonight, in his man in the street portion, a guy had on this shirt.
Maybe it was Trevor.
They were muscle shirts-even funnier!
Look on the bright side, you’re mother could’ve been a “Gremlins” fan and had you all wear “Gizmo” shirts.
So very glad that I was just a newborn in 1984 and didn’t get subjected to something like this, haha. But what a great film! Ghostbusters is one of my favorites.
LOVE the blue/purple mascara! SO 80s.
After I read your comment, I scrolled back up to look at the photo and it occurred to me … this family would’ve been perfect in a 1980s sitcom. They all have the perfect look, especially the perky, smilin’ mom. She could’ve competed with any TV mom back in the day.
Yeah, and feathered hair and parted down the middle!
It is always funny when Mom tries to be hip.
Trevor’s face says it all! “I ain’t afraid of no people in cyberspace laughing their heads off at my unfortunate picture in the year 2009………..what’s cyberspace?”
Your mom is awesome, Trevor. I would treasure this photograph.
It’s moms like this (that is, most of them) that are the reason this site exists. Thanks for sharing your pain, Trevor!
*tisk*tisk…Trevor, trying to blame this one on Mom…you know THIS was YOUR idea!
Win!!
WTH?? Does that mean I have to get my family all dressed up in “Twilight” clothes for our next portrait?
That’s some thought process there, my friend!
Great, now my kids are going to be on this sight in 20 years with our photo.
You just gave me an idea! Thanks!
Thanks for the idea! I just got our Christmas Card theme!!! LOL
Please, for the love of god, if you did. POST!!!
After age 5, matching outfits are a no-no unless you are in the military or the marching band
Imagine how awkward it would have been if mom made them wear the jumpsuits and proton packs.
LOL, totally.
Well at least they didn’t have to wear half-shirts and parachute pants!
Dude! Your sister is hot!
Sister?!?! Dude, no disrespect meant, but your MOM is hot! She looks like Agnetha from the group ABBA! Paging Dr. I.M.N. Love!
Don’t cross the streams.
I love the dress shirts underneath. I mean, it’s an official family photo, so you have to keep it classy…
very astute observation. This family shows that they can be fun and serious at the same time.
Like the mullet- also an 80s classic
i am speechless…. uumm… wow…
I think the 80′s just reared up and slapped me across the face!
I suddenly feel at least a little better about some of the pics my mom made me and my sister suffer through…
Well, I’ve never gone THAT far, I mean I’ve made my kids wear matching things, but not everyone… kinda cute though….
hahahaha I remember my uncle had a shirt exactly like that. We totally had at least one kids version, too!
Your mom is awesome! I didn’t even get a Ghostbusters-themed birthday party – let alone a Ghostbusters-themed family photo!
Wow I had that haircut (that the blonde lady is rockin) from ages 3 to 10 back in the 80′s.
Hey! We can’t see dad’s ghost!
Accidentally on purpose.
Trevor. I am so…SO sorry man.
My sentiments exactly…you poor thing…but CLASSIC awkwardness! Lve it!
I wonder if they wore those shirts when Ghostbusters 2 came out?
As if the 80s werent already awkward enough
LOL! Right!?!?!?
Better than Alf I suppose…..
LMAO
I LOVE the mom for making them take this picture. That’s awesome!
agreed! Awesomeness!!!
Most definitely. Everybody’s mom should require a Ghostbusters family portrait.
Oh gosh. My husband got us matching Ghostbusters t-shirts to wear at a Halloween showing of the film this year. He asked a friend to take our photo too.
