That kid is going for the WRONG set of nipples. But the dog doesn’t seem to mind!

  2. Boppie says:

AWESOME! That dog is a PROBLEM SOLVER!

  3. Nicole says:

Love it. Dogs don’t need words to express how they truly feel. ;)

  4. kayakgirl68 says:

Ok, is this for real? That baby would be crushed. Maybe its a doll.

  5. Buffy says:

    Babysitting: you’re doing it wrong

  6. Sandi says:

by noticing all the baby stuff in the background including the blanket….I do not think it’s a doll. Thinking of the approximate weight of that dog, yes that child would be getting crushed or at the very least smothered. No way should that parent have stopped to snap a photo.

    • Jen says:

@Sandi…because it’s inconceivable to think that a family might have a baby AND a doll in the house at the same time? Logic: you’re doing it wrong.

    • Sammy says:

As soon as I saw this pic I knew there’d be someone judging the parents. Funny how people jump to conclusions when the know NOTHING of the situation. Chill out – this site is for laughs, and nobody would have posted anything that hurt their child (plus if you read the explanation it is a great story!). Relax folks, life doesn’t always have to be so serious.

      • Amber says:

My daughter was nearly suffocated by our cat as a newborn and almost died. Some of us fail to see the humor in such things. There is nothing funny about this picture or the story.

        • Kava says:

Why weren’t you watching that newborn more closely? A cat will suck out the baby’s breath, don’t you know that?

          • salepo says:

That’s a stupid old wives tale.cats will lick at a baby because of the milk smell and can cause suffocation but they aren’t breth stealing vampires.

          • really? says:

Cats are usually lactose intollerant, they dont “steal breath” (how is that possible) OR lick milk (see above) although they may sleep on a babies face it is EXTREMELY RARE. hey its a funny pic. nobody died, so chill.

        • Chris says:

          I dunno. I think it’s pretty funny.

          • Ann says:

Well cats are just evil, what did you expect?
And salepo, really? Really? You think Kava is serious? Really? You felt the need to let us all know that cats are NOT really “breth stealing vampires.” Really? Because you’re totally wrong.

  7. Jak says:

fantastic! one for the scrap book…

  8. Soraya says:

This was the fifth take as well as Barley refused to smile for the camera. Awww, mummy’s little angel

  9. Tim says:

NO, BARLEY! NO!! BAD DOG!! NO CRUSHING LITTLE TOMMY!!! BAD!! BAD!!

  10. joci says:

this is exactly how rome was founded.

  11. Brook says:

Thanks for having a blog that makes me laugh on a daily basis.

  12. krysti says:

Sit, Barley, sit! No, not there! Oh well, as long as you’re there, smile for Mommy!

  13. Nan says:

I’m in the “It’s a doll” camp. Look at the position of the legs, particularly the “baby’s” right one and the empty-looking right sleeve. It just looks like a doll covered by a too-large sleeper.
And if it is real, baby needs groceries.

  14. songbirdcindi says:

I’m also hoping it’s a doll. What’s the story, Kirsten?

  15. Kirsten says:

This is, indeed, our baby. This is the last in a series of photos my husband was taking with the dog right next to the baby, sniffing him and giving him kisses (she thinks he’s her puppy). All of a sudden she just plopped down. She was on him for all of about 5 seconds. She was shooed off right away (we were already taking pictures so it’s not like we let her sit there and smother him while we got the camera out). He’s not traumatized or damaged and never even cried. It didn’t last long enough.

    • Christine says:

That is something my dog would do! Thank you for making me laugh today! :D

    • Nan says:

Well, then your baby is a real doll!

    • Shonda says:

I thought it was real after seeing my brothers chldren interacting with their chocolate lab, who would sooner die than hurt either kid. I have a picture of me taking a nap on the floor, using my grandmother’s cat for a pillow and I was about a year old. Most cats tend to shy away from little kids. I have no idea why the cat let me “abuse” it that way.

    • cranky says:

So awesome! We have a fun series of photos of out dog “kissing” and accidentally tipping over our daughter at about the same age. Best part is our baby’s “WT*?” look at the camera. Good times.

  16. carol says:

    I love it!!

  17. carol says:

P.S. Could be a doll. Some dogs like to have their own “pretend” babies– or stuffed animals that they groom and love in their own awkward way. Either way, dog looks pretty proud of herself!

  18. HFM says:

It’s been awhile since I’ve laughed out loud from a pic on this site. This is great.

  19. DD says:

Ewww I hope to God you gave this baby a thorough wash after this sack of fleas sat on him.

  20. PugMom says:

Kirsten, that picture is hilarious. We had a lab named Lily who would smile like that too. And she loved playing with the grandkidlettes.
    Greatname Barley too!!

  21. Kristie says:

As the owner of a big dog, and the parent of small babies (yep, at the same time, and in the same house) I think that’s hysterical. And I am quite confident that in a few more, mobile months, the baby will turn the tables. :)

  22. bmj2k says:

    Back to the pound!

  23. Katie says:

Awesome! I figured this was something like “in the course of a series of pictures…” Totally cute and funny! Do you have a picture of the baby then sitting on the dog oh, 6 months later or so?

  24. Coll says:

    SO cute!

  25. JustMe says:

I had a 65 pound dog and a 12 pound dog who played together. After a year I relaxed. Dogs have a way of being very nimble and avoiding harm. Barley is a beauty and the little boy will be refusing to join a family photo in the blink of an eye. : )

  26. Chris says:

All you have to do is yell “Mike Vick!” and watch lil’ poochy scramble for cover thus freeing the tike.

  27. nadine says:

    1, 2, 3 she’s out for the count!

  28. jmo says:

This is hilarious & super cute! :)

  29. Kathleen says:

    A doll? The baby “crushed”?

It looks to me like the baby was sitting up and as Mom or Dad went to snap the picture the dog decided to be the star. The whole thing probably took less than 30 seconds.

I love the picture and think it’s adorable and, yes, a little awkward!

  30. Blondie says:

We had a Great Dane when our son was a baby and toddler. There is no way that our Dane would have hurt our son and it was much like the Kirsten (the mother) said – she thought our son was her baby. This is a great photo and the dog haters need to lighten up.

  31. Jeff says:

Look at the dog’s front legs, neither one appears to be fully on the floor. It looks like he’s propping himself up a little bit with his left front leg so he won’t squish the baby.

  32. googley says:

Dog: “Hi! You wanna take my picture? Wow! Awesome! How do I look? Good? I love you. Why are you yelling? What? okay! Cheeeeeeese!”

  33. desertdude says:

Poor doggy. what a lumpy carpet!

  34. Lori says:

“this is MY baby and you can’t have it”

(PS: I can vouch for the authenticity of this shot – I know the photographer (dad). No babies or animals were hurt.)

  35. lilred says:

LOVE this photo! Dogs are awesome!!!!

  36. BO says:

give me a break! of course the baby’s real. the dog is fake tho. trust me on this

  37. Valerie says:

That dog looks exactly like my dog. He won’t come anywhere near our son though.

  38. me says:

    I hope this is edited..

  39. Raevin says:

This was HILARIOUS! I have a similar photo our our little boy and our giant yellow lab who thought she was his “Mama”. Calm down folks – baby’s are pretty tough. And our baby was laughing all the time. We did have to “de-fur” him all over (including a mouthful).

  40. Khouri says:

LOL. I think it’s real (I’m a graphic designer so can typically spot a photoshop job a mile away). The position of the kids arm means his head would be out the back and not being smothered…

This is hilarious! Totally made my day.

  41. Smarty says:

I’ll get the 3-count this time, fer sure!!!

  42. Ashli says:

This picture is SO CUTE and the caption is perfect!! I laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes! even the comments posted by people who know *nothing whatsoever* about dogs, cats, or babies can’t ruin how funny this is!

No babies or dogs were harmed in the making of this photo…the puppy isn’t even lying all the way on top of the kid and even if she did plop down on top of him for 1 second, it’s not like a baby couldn’t handle it, kids are made out of rubber bands and glue. :0)

I like this so much I posted to my facebook! Thanks for the laugh!

  43. Echo says:

Wish I had seen this sooner- toooo funny!

I thought it mightbe a doll at first, because of the legs, but the arm sticking out the right side of the image doesn’t look doll-like. So I figured it was a ‘we’re taking pictures AND!!’ : )

My big dog loves my 3 month old son. I tell her ‘go check on your baby!’ all the time. She likes to smell his breath when he gets upset. She got off of her leash one dark night and was running around a main street- I got down on my knees and said, ‘Come see your baby!’ holding him out a bit, and she finally came to me to see him. Sometimes they really do seem to take a protective ownership, even if they get clumsy ; )

  44. Jaz says:

I hope the baby can breathe under there :/ lol

  45. Diane says:

This is my absolute favorite – I sent it to all my lab friends. Thanks for the laugh!

  46. mary says:

I’m laughing so hard my head hurts, my hands are numb, my throat aches and I really need to pee. Best pic on this site. I need to go lay down.

  47. Mattteus says:

I love that the dog looks like it’s going “hey buddy, what’s shakin’?”
