Behind The Awkwardness: Reach Out And Touch
January 5th, 2010
“I recently photographed my sister-in-law’s wedding (my husband’s sister). I knew the window overlooked a part of the hotel’s roof, but I didn’t notice the workers until after I snapped a few pictures. When I got home and downloaded all the pictures, I couldn’t stop laughing when I saw this. Lucky for me she has a good sense of humor and allowed me to share it with you.”

Hilarious! Wondered if it was set up, but it really doesn’t seem like it.
Wow, that’s awesome timing. I love flukey shots like that. I have one from my wedding where my husband was sitting in the foreground at a table, and my brother was dancing in the background and it looks like he’s playing bongos on my husbands head
The bride here has a great profile too, I hope some of the photos from this sequence came out as intended also
Thanks for sharing
Fiddling on the roof!
This brings whole new meaning and depth to the expression “left behind.”
This is fabulous! Hands down winner! Thanks for sharing it here!
Very cute!!!!
BAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA oh man i’m dying!
This is great! But what totally makes it is that the photographer and the bride have such an awesome sense of humour about it! ~clapClapclapClapclap~
A salute to the digital age! Shoot now — check later!
This is really priceless.
Perfect! One of the best!
I’m a wedding photographer, and I can tell you that this would be a great image to share with newcomers to the industry. Not only will it help with teaching about the technical flaws in the image, but the very basic concept of checking your background before clicking the shutter. PRICELESS!
I wholeheartedly agree. I was going to say something very similar about what a basic concept checking your background is to good photography!
BEAUTY!
Hillarious
OMG, that is HYSTERICAL!! Best photo!
i initially thought that the guy in the carhart overalls WAS her husband and she was looking longingly out at him, to do a whole “my man is a sexy worker guy” theme.
Perfect example of un-planned awkwardness!
Dang, why is this glass here?
WIN!
This one gets my vote for the best pic! Thanks Laura and S-I-L for sharing I will be laughing allday and telling everyone to come and get a load of this Pic.
Lookes Staged to me. my bet is they knew all along. too obvious
Sorry to disappoint, Abbey…not staged at all! We were working quickly to get a ton of shots she wanted, and I didn’t notice the workers until after I took about 4-5 shots.
You could never have staged that one! Too funny!
This pose is supposed to be ‘gazing hopefully into the future’ – and there’s one future right in her hands!
Priceless! One of my favorites! If only the worker could see this picture!
Bwa ha! The one that got away!
Behind: the awkwardness!
Great shot — glad she was willing to share. Funny how the unplanned and surprising photos are often the ones with the best story.
Best wishes to the bride and groom!!
so it that the final you gave her or did you do an edit out
There are 1,700 photos total, and they got everything on CD (plus a nice book I put together). This one is definitely a “keeper,” although it’s not in the album. We will never delete this one!
Did not edit it out – my sister-in-law and new brother-in-law loved it. And they are getting a kick out of all of your comments, everyone!
OMG – I LOOOOVED this pic!
It’s like one I would take on purpose, but since it was accidental it makes it a hundred times better! Good stuff!
This is an amazing shot. Thank you for sharing it, Laura
This is terrific, Laura, and so is your husband’s sis for sharing this! It brings to mind the old Kids in the Hall “crushing your head” bit, only maybe a different part of the anatomy!
Kids in the hall FTW!
KITH!!! The BEST evah!
Very “touching”. What a “handy” man.
hahaha, perfect!
that is hilarious!! thanks for sharing
OMG ..this is my new favorite. I can’t stop laughing.
I loved this photo. So much of life is about timing, isn’t it? Thanks for sharing.
This was my photo – I am glad you all like it! I was shooting pretty quickly and didn’t notice this shot until we got home. The bride (and her husband) both agreed to let it go here…I just couldn’t resist sharing. They were great sports about it! – Laura
that is so hilarious! congrats to the newlyweds! and hope the other photos worked out for them >,
Is the bride’s name Catherine? I think I know you guys!!
Nope, her name is Pauline.
What? – she’s “admiring the view”
How come SHE didn’t notice the hotel worker? She is the one looking out the window!
She probably saw him. But she probably didn’t realise that she had placed her hand in an…interesting position. From her point of view her hand is on a window pane.
One of the best !
The bride just needed some grope therapy.
Look at the forefinger and thumb. It looks as though she is “sizing up” the situation!! HAHA!
Okay, that brought a new level of funny. Glad you pointed that out. Ha ha!
awesome funny!!! I usually notice stuff like that! Good call
It looked to me like she was pinching him!
Nice one
I love that she’s a good sport! She looks like she’s gazing wistfully out at him….my first impression was that the Handyguy was her groom, and it was a loving but awkward caress through the window!
That’s what I thought, too. I mean, look at her expression!
Me too! The photographer may not have known the hot stud was out there, but the bride sure did, mwahahaha! Either way, this pic made me laugh out loud, and for that I’m always grateful!
Excellent photo — great s-i-l for letting you share! I think she should get that framed and set it out when her husband is being a jerk someday.
LOL! Too funny!
she’s hiding his plumber’s cr – - -
man it looks to cold outside
Lol!! That’s hilarious! I’m glad your SIL has a great sense of humor and is willing to share, I needed a good laugh.
“My groom is OK I guess, but I really want someone who can fix a roof!”
LOL-awesome!
That is too funny! Poor girl!
So, who’s going to be the first to make a “pane in the ass” comment?
Hmmph. I suppose that would be me.
Hilarious photo, definitely a keeper for the album.
LMAO. Awesome.
Love it.
perfect!
Perfect!!!!
Isn’t that “ass in the pane”?
I hope the groom never found out!
