I think the awkwardness is in the way she’s laying on it. It doesn’t look comfortable and she looks like she’s holding on for dear life. Very awkward position.
I bet I could write a longer thesis on the cultural implications, gender relations, and so on embedded in this photo than I can on my actual topic… even if sometimes a horse is just a horse.
It’s cute pic. I have a horse & I actually have a very similar photo of me like that. : ) He was too chunky for me to get his saddle on him & so I laid on him instead. When they get fat they don’t want to move (kinda like some humans!) & he had been on lush pasture for a week which is how he got so fat. Not good for them to get fat.
Ok, sorry for the post completely devoid of humor – I promise to do better in the future! I just wanted to explain the possibility of why she’s laying on him!
This is awkward because it is (supposedly) an engagement photo and the humans are not touching each other, nor are they even close to each other; however, the woman is on the horse, laying on it without a saddle. This au natural of the horse seems a bit intimate to most people not familiar with horses…and the woman does not seem all that uncomfortable to me. She looks happy. Happy to be laying on a horse or a big stud as it were… I cannot tell the gender of the horse and will go no further!
I know these people I went to High School with the both of them!! WEIRD!! This pic is a little awkward but not for them, and I mean that in a good way!
The horse can’t be fat – it’s definitely pregnant. coming from a person with a very horsey background. If you notice, the horse’s head and neck aren’t chubby at all.
Maybe the horse is the girls, and as a way to show both the “expectant mother” and the newly engaged couple, have both in the pic.
I think it is cute but the way she is laying HAS to be uncomfortable – even chubby horses are boney as heck along their spine. The reason it is awkward is because of how she is laying, and the horse is very well along in pregnancy so it’s probably awkward for her, too!
I love the idea, I wanted my senior picture from high school taken with my horse and I in a field.
No, not awkward. I’d be willing to bet that nearly everyone who has spent quite a bit of time with their horse has used it as a couch, recliner, kneeled on it, or even *gasp* stood on it. Not very uncommon.
Well, as one who rides equestrian, I do find this awkward and hysterical. You don’t lay on hoses lol. She looks like she’s really trying to stay on (understandably so as this is just not a natural position). A nice photo would have been of her sitting on the horse… this is just odd.

Hel-lo-o-o-o Wi-i-ilbu-u-u-r,
I ha-a-a-d a great we-e-e-e-kend!
Lol, now I have the theme song in my head!
A horse is a horse, of course of course,
and no one can talk to a horse of course,
that is of course, unless the horse,
Is the famous Mister Ed!
If I had been thinking straight I would have taken a horse over a guy too.
I get the sense there’s something coming between us. Call it a horse sense.
man is horse’s best friend.
Give her some medical attention…she’s feeling a little horse.
Not much awkward here. Cute as heck? Oh yeah.
Yeah, this is pretty much how I spent my youth. Not a bad way of spending my time.
That horse is ginormous – kinda looks pregnant
I think it’s a very nice picture. To put this here is really reaching
Marth: john…this is sugerfoot…and we’re in love!
John: is there anyway to win you back?
Sugerfoot: naaaaaaayyyyyyyyy!
I haven’t had my coffee yet. Can someone explain to me what’s awkward about this photo? Doesn’t seem like it’s an unusual shot.

Phil never imagined the response he would get when he posted his “looking for a fast l’il’ philly” ad in Craigslist.
Best reply in my book!
HAHAHAHAHA
Katherine The Great Rides Again!
I wonder how the horse feels about being used as a piece of furniture?
Probably no better/worse than it feels about being used as a mode of transportation or the power for a mode of transportation.
I agree with others this is a very typical shot, no one looks awkward, except that is one big @SS horse!
The horse’s proportions do not look right. It is like it has a teeny-tiny head and a ginormus body.
teeny tiny head – horse or the guy?
This an odd shot – who lays on a horse for a picture?
maybe it is a lady godiva thing

“You big stud, you!”
“Gee, thanks!”
“Not you, Blondie.”
No one else finds the woman’s position on the horse awkward? She looks uncomfortable to me and who lays on a horse? No one I know!
There is nothing awkward about this photo. Why on earth is it on this site?

Now I see!
Wait.
No.
It’s still an awkward pose.
I know these people I went to High School with the both of them!! WEIRD!! This pic is a little awkward but not for them, and I mean that in a good way!
That horse is OBESE. Really; that is the fattest horse I’ve ever seen.

The horse looks soft like velvet. Are they soft? Never been brave enough to get close enough to tell.
No, not awkward. I’d be willing to bet that nearly everyone who has spent quite a bit of time with their horse has used it as a couch, recliner, kneeled on it, or even *gasp* stood on it. Not very uncommon.
HUGE HORSE! – WoW!
I always knew she’d be a nag
This is awkward for the horse, definitely
Alright what’s up with her feet and ankles? Are her feet missing from the pic? Somebody ’splain please.
The guy with the chain saw had something to do wit it.
ok, so what if it’s not awkward, it’s entertaining, just enjoy it.
“Would somebody get that stable boy out of the shot??”
Thats a overweight horse fer ya.
Just look how flabby he is!
