Yup, both are actual nuns-in-training back in the 60’s, so that’s why they didn’t have veils. And the little boys are their younger brothers (the one in the tie is my dad). Why a 6 year old needs a tie still baffles me
Nostalgic for me. My dad made a pair of stilts for me when I was a kid. Of course, I was wearing play clothes and wasn’t a nun-to-be. This makes for a better picture!
Those aren’t nuns–they’re mennonites or something. If they were nus, they would wear either a full habit with a veil, or street clothes; not a habit without a veil.
23. What happened to Sister Mary Catherine to force her to use stilts?
A. She rose in the air and the stilts are a way to explain why her feet aren’t on the ground.
B. She wanted to see the baby robins in the elm tree.
C. She was showing Sister Mary Frances how easy it is to be “hip” and “with it” well enough to engage in a “rap session” with teenagers.
D. Nun of the above.

I love nuns having fun! This isn’t awkward; it’s just cute. It made me smile!
Agreed, this isn’t awkward. AFP=FAIL=
Everybody loves a fun nun. So cute.
My sister-in-law is a fun nun, we all love her! and I love this picture
The Flying Nun’s training wheels?
why do the nuns have kids… lolol.. !..awkward..!
I see London, I see France, I see Sister Mary Trixie’s underpants!
Are they really nuns? The one on the right has awfully well styled hair and no veil.
No veil? In what century did you encounter your most recent nun?
These are nuns? How is a non-Catholic suppose to know what nuns are wearing these days. Are we suppose to keep up with their attire?
I don’t think they’re really nuns!
In Malta (Eu) where I come from, all nuns wear headgear…just wanted to make a point that’s all!
Mennonites rock!
Flying Nun auditions?

I didn’t know stilt-walking was a requirement for nuns. Good thing they were training I suppose!

Actually, the one on stilts does seem to have a veil.
Most nuns don’t wear habits anymore. Cuts down on wind resistance.
Why ANYONE needs a tie baffles me…
Thanks for the clarification, like a lot of others, I wasn’t sure they were the real deal.
THIS PICTURE MAKES ME SO HAPPY. JUST A LITTLE CLOSER TO GOD. PERFECTION.
For some reason, this really reminds me of a particular book by Tom Robbins. Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates…
Their interaction looks a little stilted …
Seems stilted.
no matter how big you get those stilts, sister agnes, you’re never be a higher power!
Those wacky Amish! What’ll they think of next?
CAREFUL NOW!!! I hear that dressing as a nun and walking on stilts can be…wait for it….wait for it….HABIT FORMING! HAAAAA!!!

“Well, if the whole God thing doesn’t work out, we’ve always got the Circus.”

This photo rocks..
Yes they are nuns for all you who think otherwise, and the caption is FANTASTIC!!
Actually they are not nuns. That is a religious costume warn in Sicily and southern Italy.
Still funny. The stilts make it.
You wear it on Thursday’s
