Oh my gosh, the mother was my college roommate! My jaw dropped when I saw someone I know posted under “awkward photos”. She had told me their family picture was Star Trek theme, and she had made the costumes, but I hadn’t seen the picture. I see Alex posted. Great to hear an update about the kids.

  2. Sima says:

Thanks for finally writing about > The Final Frontier

  3. Aaron says:

Begs the question: What happened to red shirt?

  4. Kimberly Mashburn says:

kudos to standing out & being you!! What works works with kids, etc. Be proud! πŸ™‚

PS I giggled when I saw the red. I know…I’m lame like that.

  5. Loams says:

frankly… i’d love to take a family photo like this… y’know when i’m old enough and actually have a family… thank you for posting this, my night just got that much better

  6. The Rooster says:

    That’s awesome

  7. Linda says:

Based on the history of the red shirts in Star Treck, I’m guessing I know which kid is the least loved.

  8. Alejandro Longoria says:

I am the father in this photo. I raised my children on Star Trek because it taught great lessons. I think it worked. Two of the young men are now in the USA defense industry and build state of the art weapons that protect our wonderful nation. Third son is deeply into building computers. Daughter is a math teacher and mother of several little Trekies. I retired after a long career which included assisting Veterans from several wars. Live long and prosper.

    • Joel says:

I’m a fellow Trekkie, Alejandro, who raised his kids on Star Trek. They are not graduated yet, but are pacifists, and always seek peaceful solutions to any conflicts they encounter. I think they learned from Star Trek, too, but somehow in a different way than your unfortunate weapons merchants did.

      • Dave says:

Didn’t you ever watch the show? They were a military crew of a military ship.

      • Lortad says:

I agree with Dave, i quote: “They were a military crew of a military ship”.

        Alejandro Longoria, great pic!!!!

      • Kurt says:

Joel, it was a good thing they weren’t pacifists or the Klingons would have ended the show in less than a year.

      • Scott says:

Alejandro raised his sons well; I know them as coworkers. Yes, I am another “unfortunate weapons merchant”, as Joel so unfortunately (but ignorantly) stated.
The company we work for makes state-of-the-art communications and data transmission equipment that has protected and saved the lives of hundreds, if not thousands, of our fellow citizen-soldiers, as well as protected your borders, assisted in fighting natural disasters (including forest fires, typhoons, droughts, and so on), and helped monitor the world’s “bad guys” to ensure that all of us, whether we be pacifists or “weapons merchants” can live in a peaceful world.

  9. I says:

Ah poor guy in the red V.V I feal bad.

  10. Shannon says:

This is not AWKWARD, It’s Awesome….

  11. sillyme says:

Mama would have totally upgraded the awesomeness if she had dressed as Laxwana(sp?) Troi. Fifth House, Represent!

  12. Cassie says:

I would LOVE it if my family did this!!!!!!!!!!! It would be EPIC!!!!!!!!!! XD

  13. Tbone says:

How can anything not look good on Patrick Stewart?

  14. Absynthe says:

My brother would do this to his family, if he had one.

  15. smrtazz says:

Not trying to be a tool or jerk, but so many people are posting about the red shirt. These uniforms are from the Next Generation era where security wore the gold uniforms. The “red shirt=death” assumption only applied to the Original Series. If anyone is in danger of not returning from the photographer’s studio alive, it’s the guy on the floor.

  16. Newton says:

    Live long and be awkward.

  17. Hans says:

XD So winning. I love that. The red man stands alone. Expendability. Guess who’s not coming back from the newly discovered and unchartered planet. πŸ˜›

  18. Tim says:

Looks like they didn’t have enough com-badges.

  19. Anthony O'Neill says:

I guess Mom and Dad don’t like middle son too much–they made him wear the red shirt…

  20. iphone5 says:

omg…i should see this pic sooner.haha made my day.

  21. Nick says:

Feel like such a nerd for correcting…but it’s funny how people know the “Red shirts die first” meme, but not that these folks are wearing TNG outfits…where red is Security and Commanders =p If red shirts died first in TNG, there would be one hell of a turnover for commanders and security teams =p

  22. kara says:

    nice family photo!

  23. Brandon says:

The one in red (on the Next Generation) was the commander. So why is a kid wearing it? C’mon dad…get control of your ship

  24. Softwear says:

Is Mom supposed to be Deanna Troy?

  25. Teach says:

The dad really looks happy like it is one of those small victories dads seldom earn. He is not just happy, but like now I can die happy-happy.

  26. Lee says:

I am impressed that they all bought in totally. Not one of them said, “uh uh. no way. not doing the Star Trek family photo..”

  27. Kailey says:

I wonder what they are trying to say to the one in the red…poor kid.

  28. Haha! This might just be my favourite family of all time. One can only wonder what their house/ship looks like…

  29. Sage says:

I want to be in this family. PERIOD.

    • Sage says:

Almost all of them are science officers with two engineer, because face it, they are too scrawny to be security officers, and only one red shirt. Not bad!

      • Chuck says:

        Trekkies correct me but….

        Red is engineering, Scottie

gold / yellow is command, Kirk

        blue is science, Spock, Bones

        • Clayton says:

In the original series, you are absolutely right. But, when the Next Generation came out, and from then on, Gold and Red switched. Ever since, gold is engineering / security and red is command / conn. Blue is still science / medical.

  30. Kkristina11 says:

Very cute, not my thing I am not a star treck fan ( I do like the new movie but that’s it) but it’s a cute idea

  31. Taylor says:

The one in red always dies first…

  32. the kid in the red shirt HAD to be unhappy – by wearing a red shirt, he KNEW he’d be the first to die.

  33. Lol this is too funny, SPOCK πŸ™‚

  34. likeit says:

Mom’s just pissed cause she’s the only one without a unitard

  35. iPhone 5 says:

The costumes really looks great! I remember the spy kids movie.

  36. Princess Leia says:

whats even funnier is the top comment, fn classic!!!

  37. Joe says:

I always swore I was switched at birth. Now I know what my real family looks like.

  38. Karl says:

CAPTAIN! Long range sensors are picking up two arm-shelves and two akimbos — and they’re on an intercept course!

  39. Jon says:

What I find most surprising about this photo is that it doesn’t contain the obligatory unhappy teen. Surely, someone in this photo didn’t like the idea, but I can’t tell who!
