OMG thank you! this made my day. It is EXACTLY the look my son (age 15) has on his face most days, and it's good to know I'm not suffering alone. =]

Its my photo and yes its was definitely tiramisu, his alleged favourite cake at the time (and yes again, with amaretto) . he is almost 19 now and much improved. and yes we are from the south - the great southern land, Australia.

HAHA... well, the mom and dad were probably afraid that if they provided birthday candles, and he made a wish, then they would dissapear... or die

I totally know what the dish is, but I wanted to wait and see what everybody else thought it was... It is Turkey Stuffing ! His Mom is Marney and you can tell by the appropriate 13" x 9" blue dish. Not in the picture as you can tell is the large serving spoon and aluminum foil that covered the stuffing. please note - aluminum foil is the proper cover for this dish and not a fitted lid(that would make the stuffing -sans meat, soggy ! The 17 was made from pastry dough and the dish has not been cooked yet, but marney wanted the photo taken before the guest arrived at exactly 7:30 pm...except for the Davis Family, the R.S.V.P they sent in was for 8:00 pm, due to the fact that the Clos du bois would need to be room temp to be served to all the guests. I hope this clears up any confusion :)

1. I think the kid is making a face at posing for the picture, not at the mystery food with 17 on it. I was exactly the same way at that age ... hmm, still am.

2. The mystery '17' food is probably his favorite, which is why it was made for his birthday as opposed to the typical cake that would otherwise be easier and more straightforward. He is looking at it probably wanting to get the picture over with and dig into it.

3. After much deliberation, reading of comments, consulting other photos online, and my own culinary knowledge, I declare the mystery '17' food to be a ... ::drum roll:: ... rice pudding! You may object on the grounds that rice pudding is lumpy, but when it chills for several hours the creamy liquids rise to the top and form a smooth skin, and the rice and other lumpy parts sink to the bottom. The color and texture of the powder on top looks more like cinnamon than anything. The lines across the top look like they were produced from when the rice pudding was first put into the baking dish and pressed down flat with a spatula to fill out the entire dish.

4. Anyone who thought it was lasagne ... I will not be coming over to your house for dinner any time soon if this is what your lasagna looks like .. lol!
