It isn’t always a two-way street.

hahaha, in color is way better.
EMILIOOOOO! That kid is really a young Emilio Estevez.
Isn’t the fact that the dog wouldn’t want to stay still for a picture a reason not to take posed pictures like that? Just take pictures of them running around the yard or whatever. I mean … anything for a portrait, even if it looks ridiculous?
These are photos people had at home, not thinking that in the future they would be on the Internet. When this site was invented, called “Awkward Family Photos” people started looking back through uncomfortable pictures and were kind enough to share some embarrassing moments. That’s what makes it fun. And from the comments on here, it sounds as if that dog was both well cared-for and loved.
I absolutely love this photo and the caption is hilarious and classic AFP/AFPP. But while reading the comments, I kind of felt like Mrs. Woofruff was humping on my leg.
This one’s my fav
Wasn’t that kid in the Sandlot?
The way the dog’s face sits in his hand looks shopped to me…
Poor doggie, perfect picture! *ROFL*
Can I order it as wallpaper for my bedroom? I’ll definitely wake up in a good mood every morning then!
is that a young emilio estevez?
Dear Mrs. Woofruff,
The doggie translation to my writing of July 5 is this…………………JAKE WAS A GREAT DOG!!!!! He ran like the wind, jumped as high as the sky, and could do everything except navigate corners at high speeds. About the only thing I remember Jake not particularly liking was when Taylor’s friend Al tried to handcuff Jake. However, Jake figured out more quickly than the boys, that the handcuffs were much too big for his skinny ol legs or paws. He always made a clean get-away.
Mrs. Woofruff, forgive me, but your name reminds me of something. Jake was over 6 years old before he learned to bark. A neighbor’s doberman puppy taught him the art of barking. It was rather piercing, but ol’ Jakey was mighty proud of it.
Time marched on. Now Taylor is grown and lives in another state and Jake lives under my flower beds. My gardenias have been glorious thanks to Jake.
Ignore typos – my fingers do not do what I want them to do. Thanks for reading about our friend. There are so many great stories.
I get the feeling that this kid grew up to become a chiropractor.
LOL, I want to see the pictures of him today with his kids. In the same pose. This is hilarious. A little painfully scary to look at, but … hey, it’s just a living, breathing, feeling furry friend who would put his life in front of yours to save it. No harm done. Other than those few brain cells he lost during the oxygen loss.
Oh my gosh that’s my boyfriend!
How many people know this freakin kid and his dead dog???
The comments had me laughing until I read the doggie is D-E-A-D. Now this picture makes me sad. Poor little Jake up in doggie heaven, wondering in his confused doggie angel brain why earthlings are laughing at his cyber image. Better be careful about the jokes, there’s nothing worse than being haunted by a Whippett dog you don’t really know.
Dog ghosts are the worse. They just lay there and do nothing, beg for food, demand their own couch and bed… – oh wait, no that’s my alive dog.
oops. I made a couple of typos in last comment.
That’s OK, ma. He sounds like a great dog; don’t let anyone take away from your happy memories of him.
Thank you Carrie!
Seeing this picture brought back such found memories of Jake. He was an incredible dog that we loved for 15 years. Jake and Taylor had many a fun afternoon together. Jake was always game to be a spy-dog, or a bad guy dogy, or even a lame horse. Taylor, Jake, and all of Taylor’s cronies had a grand together. Great seeing that my former neighbors saw the photo-Jake was a part of many lives. JAKE DEVO WHIPPETT – RIP.
I did not understand that story at all. Can someone who speaks dog translate this for us please? This is the part I need translated, I checked google there is no doggie translation…

I just want to say how awesome I think it is that the Whippet’s name was “Devo”.
Ma…is Jakes right ear chewed off or just laid back? And why did he have only 3 legs? Love the picture.
How did you know he only had three legs?
Is he gonna turn that dog into a balloon?
I know its odd but the more I keep looking at the photograph the more the two are starting to look alike.
ummm…..my favorite portraits are the ones NOT posed. so if the dog’s looking away, it might be more natural.
but, both subjects here are cute. even posed.
Yeah, hey susan, if you look in your address bar, it probably reads “awkward family pet photos” – you aren’t going to see any normal photos here – try flickr.
He’s a greyhound and they are notorious for paying attention to anything but the camera! Ours refuses to look at the camera, even if we cover it in peanut butter or bacon. Plus, it’s hard to get a straight on shot of them, since their heads are kind of skinny. The “good” news (I guess) is that most greyhounds -if they are retired racers- are used to being handled so while it may look unsettling to the dog, he’s probably cool with it.
You put peanut butter and/or bacon on your camera?????
I’m going over to her house for some camera!
I think you have to be a greyhound owner to appreciate this picture. I think it’s a beautiful portrait!!
I know this kid/dog! They were my neighbors years ago! Taylor loved Jake, but Jake was hyperactive and would not stay still; thus, he had to be restrained for the picture.
This picture is kind of scary. Does that kid not see the dog’s distress? I’m a little creeped out.
Taylor and Jake the 3-legged wonder! I must say I was shocked to see someone I know on this website.
Say hi to your mom. What a small world.
Your old neighbor/babysitter,
Wow! This is a three legged dog? LOL
Maybe Taylor is the dog’s name and it’s a 3 legged kid.
Woof back to you too Susan! Woof Woof! Ruff. Woof!
Hm. Left hand has a death grip around the jawline causing the eyes to bulge out. Right hand is caving in the esophogus. This is the doggy version of “Scared Straight”. Move, and we’ll take your picutre again, and keep doing it until you get it right!
“You will sit still and enjoy this!”
