Behind The Awkwardness: Taking A Dive
July 5th, 2010
“This here epic photograph was taken about twenty years ago in England when my aunt and uncle were married. The photographer was trying to take a photograph of the happy newlyweds when my sister walked in front of them. She soon realized her error – as she was in the way of the photographer – so she decided to dive to the ground in an effort to not ‘get in the way.’ As you can see, she failed at her attempt to remain unseen and the awkwardness prevails.”

It looks like a remake of the “Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson-Wedding”
I like the groom. He seams awesome.
And here, all she had to do was just go blend in with the curtains..SAFE!!!
I’m impressed that the panic bars and signage on the door met codeeven in the 1860′s. Maybe the curtains were the inspiration for Scarlet O’Hara.
Well, there WAS a war on. Safety first!
It was a new kind of wedding dance,I’ll bet.
A rousing session of “Ring Around the Rosie” broke out at the reception.
Great photo and story. Reminds me of the shot of my sister yawning and swatting away the bride’s veil during a family friend’s ceremony. Hmm, maybe I have some I can upload and submit…
I also really enjoy that the grooms head is partially cropped off.
Because the other giant was taking the photo.
I think that this photo might have been 5 times as funny if the explanation of it had been left out…I mean, look at that girl, she could have been doing any number of really disturbing things in that position LOL.
I thought the same thing….this is one that would be funnier without, in my opinion.
Was the little girl safe or was she out?
Ha ha! Perfect.
And then she grew up and became an Italian footballer.
Indeed. Red card for the red sash.
From the looks of the freaked out hands on the standing bridesmaid (the one with the giant next to her), maybe the girl on the floor had been hiding under her dress and was just pulled out??? I don’t know……the death grip she still has under there was a dead give away.
I know it states the picture was taken in England But the groom looks like a Union Army officer uniform and the other man looks like he has a Confederate Army officer uniform on. If that was the case then the dresses would also fit that period time.
i was thinking that too .
You know what the groom is wearing — THE DRAPERY TIE-BACK. He had to fit into the theme, you know. P.S. What a sweet little girl…
47 huzzahs for the little girl’s cooperative attitude! And a couple more for the photog’s flexibility in getting her in the shot (at the expense of the top of the groom’s head.
Who cares about the clothes, what’s with the crappy photographer cutting off the groom’s head in the pic? I thought the picture was supposed to be of them?
Simmer down there, Tiger. I’m sure the photographer got plenty of shots of the wedding couple in all their glory, but without his quick action for this ONE shot we wouldn’t have been able to have a chuckle. Bravo, photographer! Well done, little girl!
The groom was actually wearing an enormous top hat with a little door in the front. Every few minutes out would pop a little cuckoo bird on scissor arms. And now you know why the bride requested the photographer omit the top of the head.
He cut off the giant’s head too. I hope he got a better picture of that guy.
Oh! Ok the kid… I thought that the husband’s clothes were what is awkward in this picture… seriously, what is he wearing???
That’s what I ant to know…is that some kind of military uniform?
All my English cousin’s married in their uniforms…..The boy’s that is..
nice drapery pattern on those bridesmaid dresses
The (bridesmaids?) dresses correlate nicely with the draperies . . .
Her dress reminds me of those curtains. I thought that was just a Von Trapp family custom, but maybe all of Europe has that tradition.
makes me proud to be British *sniff*
My good lord- look at the bridesmaid dresses. Actually don’t look, they’ll give you a migraine!
She was wise to try to camouflage herself with the curtains.
But that doesn’t explain why she (and the other girl) are wearing dresses made out of the drapes.
love how the bridesmaids sort of match the curtains. Snazzy!
it is snazzy
! i like that word too. thank you liztoe.
That is just too funny. But pretty fast thinking on her part.
Is there a giant standing next to the lady on the left?
Thank you for making me take a 2nd look, then laughing out loud. Yes, there does seem to be a giant standing next to her.
Bless her heart, what a trooper!
Stop Drop and Roll is always in season.
let’s talk about the fact that their dresses look like they were made from the curtains.
Let’s STOP TALKING ABOUT IT! Okay, okay! They match. GREAT. Please read everyone else’s comments before posting yours!
Yeah, since LME obviously wasn’t being ironic …
Actually, he was being sarcastic. Btw, did anyone else notice how similar the little girl’s clothes and the window decor look?:P
Actually, sarcasm is a form of verbal irony. Admittedly not a very sophisticated form, but it is nonetheless.
Anne — I agree! But be careful — I mentioned irony on here awhile ago and totally got flamed for a perceived misuse of the word. It was surreal. By the time the humor police were done with it, all comedy had been safely stamped out.
Ok ok…all I was gonna say was the lady in purple—her hose kinda match the chairs…kinda. Sheesh!
Dude, calm down. Anyone who frequents this website knows that they tend to approve comments in bulk; leading to repeated similar statements.
Bahahaha!!! Love when everyone SAYS THE SAME THING…hehehehe
OMG! the dresses match the curtains! hahahahaha!
That’s a lovely look – dressing your bridesmaids to tone with the curtains.
It’s too bad she didn’t just stand really still; she could have blended into the curtains and no one would have noticed her.
HAHA! Of all the curtain comments this is the funniest!
I like how they matched the girls’ dresses to the curtains.
isn’t that too funny? i wonder if it was a coincidence, or maybe they planned it.
This is very “Sound of Music”…what with the dresses being made out of the drapes and all
Not to mention Carol Burnett in Gone with the Wind …
even more awkward, the bridesmaids’ dresses appear to have been cut from drapery material…
What would seem MOST awkward is the fact that in 1980s England, the nieces are required to match the draperies….
I’m laughing so hard that I can’t breathe! Thank!
Me too! With the breathing! They totally match! LOL
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens…these are a few of my favourite things….
GREAT =)
