Is this a picture of yours? cuz it seems so crazy to me, I looked EXACTLY like the oldest girl in the photo when I was 15 or 16, I would just be curious to know how old the photo is, and if this person looks like me now. I guess I do have a twin out there!
Y’all don’t understand…it is a lifestyle! Folks make a living growing and selling watermelons. I mean a really good living some years! Same for every other veggie or fruit you know of! There aren’t as many families as there use to be, but they are still out there. Watermelon festivals, conventions, you name it, it’s there!
My ex-husband hails from a town in Mississippi which is known for its annual Watermelon Carnival, a summer festival in honor of, well, watermelons. Every year, carnival goers adorn every possible stitch of clothing with watermelons, and they look *exactly* like these kids in the portrait. In fact, the local photography studio (owned and run by a relative of the ex) does themed shots just like this, especially for the winners of the pageant (yes, the winner is Miss Watermelon Carnival). My niece was once chosen for the dubious honor of being the official “Watermelon Baby” for that year.
Well, we got a hundred gallons of sweet red wine
made from the biggest watermelons on the vine
Help yourself to some, but obey the law
If you drink, don’t drive- do the Watermelon Crawl
I think it came out of a crafter’s magazine. Why else would there be children wearing a tank top dress and a sweatshirt? If it were a real family picture wouldn’t the seasons match a little more?
We used a “theme shot” like this for our son’s engagement picture. However, we asked the photographer to use cantaloupe instead of watermelon for the “subliminal” aspect …you see the kids didn’t want an official family wedding.
The photo is well composed and (even though ‘theme-y to the max’) it’s actually a good family portrait. It is probably a lot less awkward for us viewers than it is for those participants. I believe it is blurry because the spot to the right is a thumb! I think it was not scanned, but a ‘photo of a photo’. But I really like it!
That blotch to the right is my thumb. I found this picture when I was helping my step-mom move. I had no choice to take a picture of it and put it all up in the intraweb. There should be a 2010 version of this coming soon!
Is this really a picture you found? cuz it seems so crazy to me, I looked EXACTLY like the oldest girl in the photo when I was 15 or 16, I would just be curious to know how old the photo is, and if this person looks like me now. I guess I do have a twin out there!
Wow…..I really hope there’s a reason to this theme (though I can’t imagine what), and not just that their mom found similar watermelon shirts, and decided to run with the idea.
And I’m trying to decide what’s more awkward: The watermelon theme, or the fact that at a seemingly professional photo studio session, the picture is THAT blurry, with a mysterious shadow off to the right, no less.
I think it was scanned into a computer (making the focus less that desirable, and that blob is the finger holding the photo on the glass top of the scanner.
Yes they are because my sister-in-law and I made these exact outfits for my daughter and my nieces (circa 1994). The kit could be purchased at hobby stores. My husband and brother-in-law laughed so hard and made fun of us for days. That was the end of our puffy paint phase.
call me crazy but I think this is ADORABLE, clever, creative, precious. Some portrait minded momma hauled those melons and possibly a knife to the photoshoot. dedication to the cause, man. I remember the late 80s and early 90s had a big watermelon clothing phase…. all the little girl rompers/dresses and stuff were melon oriented. This is a time capsule and I loves it

Did they take this shot with a watermelon lens? What’s up with all the blur?
It’s fuzzy because it’s a photo of a photo. You can see a thumb on the right.
This is my watermelon. There are many like it, but this one is mine!
It’s touching to see the Gallagher family portrait.

loving the caption

Reminds me of the bearing fruit photo.
Fruit of my loins.
The oldest girl looks like that girl from the 3 ninjas that Rocky is in love with!!!!!!!!! (even though its kind of blurry)
Rocky loves Emily! Rocky loves Emily!
I like watermelons too, but I don’t want photographs with them.
The watermelon never falls far from the tree.
on sims, doesn’t the woman have to eat watermelons to make her have a better chance at getting a baby girl?
They really like watermelons.
This awkward photo brings to mind the awkward line from Dirty Dancing “I carried a watermelon”
I wonder if these girls are the spitting image of their mom?!
The outfits and the props would be so much more perfect if there was a pregnant woman involved!
With her belly painted to look like a watermelon.
It looks like the comedian Gallagers family.
Isn’t the older girl standing on the left from the movie 3 Ninjas? Rocky loves Emily!
It’s repulsive when parents exploit their children with SEEDY photographs…

AFP, thanks for the PTSD
Love the PTSD reference!

Did anyone else notice that the girl on the bottom left is a dead ringer for a young Jodie Sweetin? I swear it’s her.
I like how she’s just casually resting her hand on a cut watermelon.
I think it came out of a crafter’s magazine. Why else would there be children wearing a tank top dress and a sweatshirt? If it were a real family picture wouldn’t the seasons match a little more?
This is VERY sweet and makes me nostalgic for when my four daughters were that young.
Watch out now!…someone gets extra style points for rolled sleeves, rolled shorts AND a visor! (She needs a scrunchie, though) Love it!
We used a “theme shot” like this for our son’s engagement picture. However, we asked the photographer to use cantaloupe instead of watermelon for the “subliminal” aspect …you see the kids didn’t want an official family wedding.
I like it.
Does anyone notice that to the right, it looks as though a melon barely escaped getting in this shot..lucky bastard!

Oh wow! That would be SO fabulous! You HAVE to do this….lol
Is this really a picture you found? cuz it seems so crazy to me, I looked EXACTLY like the oldest girl in the photo when I was 15 or 16, I would just be curious to know how old the photo is, and if this person looks like me now. I guess I do have a twin out there!
I think it’s cute too. Only awkwardness is the blotch on the right edge of the photo.
Blotches aren’t awkward. Are they?
I thinks it’s cute. Very summery.
Wow…..I really hope there’s a reason to this theme (though I can’t imagine what), and not just that their mom found similar watermelon shirts, and decided to run with the idea.

This is actually very sweet! The kids are cute…. and well, the parents maybe
had an idea that went a tad overboard.
Someone please tell me these matching outfits were made with puffy paints!

Their mom must have swallowed 5 watermelon seeds along the way. Cute kids, but enough with the watermelons already!

And after the shoot the photog had to replace his seamless background paper.
I have that exact same wallpaper!! Oh, wait. That isn’t wallpaper is it?
I wonder which one is The Bad Seed?
the one with the visor ofcourse
nice melons!
Epic reply! good show.
The melon-slice visor is what really sells it
Wow. Someone spit out a lot of them.
Gallagher’s children.
coNNie, you beat me to it!
Fruit? surely you jest
I don’t jest. And don’t call me Shirley.
Now THAT is tacky. And probably sticky too.
hahaha! The older girl standing in the back looks embarrassed!
poster children for the “watermelon producers of america”
I miss the 80s.
Where do babies come from? The watermelon patch of course. Oops, we cut your brother open.
LOL!!!
The one with the visor is definitely the bad seed of this bunch.
Well I don’t think the pic is so awkward, but the caption got a giggle! AFP always good for a laugh.
So – it appears that someone wanted to keep trying for that coveted boy!
and to think, somewhere in this world is a person that is very proud of making these clothes.
