The Chug - Behind The Awkwardness

“This is a picture of my family on Easter sometime in the 90’s. I’m on the right with the stonewashed pink pants, mullet to match my older brother’s. The only thing in this picture that focuses the awkwardness away from me is my Grandpa in the next room slamming what I hope to be his first Easter beer of the day because if memory serves me correctly, we always took our pictures before church”

    The original PHOTO BOMB..

  4. GUITAR MAN says:

Those female shoulder pads though… hahaha

    • Charlotte Koelling says:

Sorry to break the news, but shoulder pads seem to be coming back in. Whether that is good or not depends on shoulder slope, which varies precipitously.

  5. OR says:

This is just TOO funny! Cracked me up! I am still laughing!

  6. CA says:

The pink pants and red tie complete the outfit!

Man in Background: “Dammit, I must finally tell him that those are not his kids.”

  10. Erica says:

I’m surprised nobody has commented on Mom’s necklace as well. It looks like a rope w/a few knots tied in it…

Getting ready for some quality time with the family…

  12. doreen says:

A photo clearly taken before the option of Photoshop crop.

  13. Zach says:

I love the pics where I see a fairly normal picture then I spot the “awkward” part. It took me a few secs to see the guy in the back. LOL for sure.

  14. GoofBall says:

The “Chugger” in the background, is actually an Airline Pilot…he is late for work,so he is pounding his last Beer before the flight leaves in 45 minutes.

  15. Kazz says:

No longer a closet drinker, Melvin stepped out into the hallway in order to be closer to his family.

I didn’t get the caption, cuz i was focusing so hard on the family. Until my eyes wandered left and i saw the guy. I did an actual LOL, alone, in the breakroom at work. My coworkers are probably wondering where the crazy cackling is coming from. HA HA HA!! I love this picture!!!!

    • Jill says:

Thats me all day every day! Random cackling from my little hole in the office. This was no exception lol

First I thought it was just the dated clothes….pink pants…….that was awkward. Then look over and saw Mr Drinker and did my first Awkward family surprize-spit-at-the-computer-screen laugh!

    Classic, indeed!!!

You wouldn’t believe how many of these pictures we have in our family photos… especially taken at the after wake parties.

    • curlygirl1971 says:

Yes- this picture has that feel to it. I thought, “this was an after funeral get together”. I am always amazed that people think to bring a camera to a funeral/wake.

      • songbirdcindi says:

Unfortunately, in some families, funerals are the only time the family gets together. I always bring my camera to get pictures of relatives I might not otherwise have photos of.

      • Rachel says:

My grandmother takes a pic of the dead person. She says that its because then you’d have pics from birth to death. Its their final picture. Personally I think its just weird but I get it.

  20. SmartAzz says:

O.K….I confess, I am the one in the background chugging the beer…I am the boys barber/ fashion consultant….just taking a break !!!

  21. JerseyPam says:

I’m curious what year this photo was taken. Mom’s shoulder pads shout 80’s, but did we have dimmer switches then? The boys have mullets, but the house design seems pretty current. **grabs beer and chugs**

  23. Christa says:

    That’s most family reunions.

  24. Lynn says:

That guy probably needs to drink just to stay somewhat happy about being there.

  25. Kerri says:

This is a train wreck of awkward.
I don’t know where to look first. The acid washed blazer with gigantic shoulder pads? The pink pants? The chugger? Or maybe is it the dad’s face that clearly says
“Yes. This is my family. For now.”
It’s an awkward feast for the eyes.

  26. Samantha says:

Mom looks like she could use a cold one too.

  27. Sayme says:

I think thats my dad, I just cant see his

  28. laughinginohio says:

    Excellent! Caught in the act!

  29. Cat says:

To be totally honest here, that would be ME drinking in the back ground…. its the only way to handle my family get togethers! HAHA

  30. Kristy says:

Oh, this is a good one! The guy with the (soda?) is wearing a suit just like one my dad used to wear to work. He was a school principal in the 80’s.

    • Snowrider says:

Oh yeah. The Sansabelt Slacks. I think all principals wore them. I can still see my high school principal wearing them while sipping his “Tab” from his coffee cup. A boss of mine wore them too. A sure sign of the middle age. I’ve given my son and daughter strict orders to shoot me if I ever wear them….

  31. Noelle says:

I love the way the boys have coordinated their pants and ties. I bet those pink pants were once red. Should have used Cheer.

  32. armchair hero says:

Initially, I thought, “well, pink suit pants on a guy. . .pretty awkward.” And then I saw the chugger. Double the awkward, double the fun.

  33. CTBRK says:

Pink pants, red tie and a mullet!! I bet that little boy does ALOT of chugging to forget this picture was ever taken….maybe Uncle Horace on the left needed to erase the image of this “fashion statement” from his brain also!

  34. DJ says:

Could we also mention that that little boy is wearing PINK pants with his red tie!?!???!!!

  35. Becca says:

    Classic!!! Love it!!!

  36. ChaseIt says:

    LMAO… that’s awesome.
