The Virgin America Awkward Family Vacation Contest

October 1st, 2010

Between the sunburns and the sing-alongs, sometimes the only thing relaxing about a family vacation is when we finally make it home. Well, AFP is proud to partner with Virgin America to make your next family vacation a little less awkward…

In celebration of family vacations everywhere, Virgin America & AFP are inviting travelers to submit their most awkward vacation pics (photo must be of your family) for a chance to win the ultimate family getaway. Just by submitting or voting for your favorite photo, you can score an awkward 33.3% off your next family booking (parties of 3 – 6 people) on Virgin America’s new Orlando flights; restrictions, taxes and fees apply. Enter until October 5th when we’ll pick the 20 most uncomfortable finalists and post their photos for people to vote on from October 6th – 13th. The photo with the most votes as of October 13th will receive FOUR FREE ROUND TRIP TICKETS TO ANYWHERE VIRGIN AMERICA FLIES.

But that’s not all. AFP and Virgin America will select the best awkward vacation photo submitted by a CALIFORNIA resident on October 6th to win a joyride with three of their guests from Los Angeles or San Francisco to Orlando on October 13, 2010 as part of Virgin America’s Orlando launch party flight. They will be greeted on arrival at a red carpet reception hosted by Sir Richard Branson. Virgin America will even throw in a three night hotel stay (10/13 – 10/16).

We’ve all been stuck on a family vacation… this is your chance to be rewarded for it. :)

“Welcome to South Dakota! …Okay, now go home. Or Walter will fight you.”

  3. TumbleBum says:

This poor family has been attacked by parasite shorts that are slowly eating their shirts. Run away!!!!

  4. Bee says:

I love my South Dakota! Cannot wait to drive back home and see familiar faces. LOL.

  5. Travel Polly says:

Cute idea. I’m guessing they are going to post the finalists’ pictures somewhere?

  6. MK says:

God didn’t make the freeways. He made the land so flat that you can go 100 miles in a straight line and not hit anything. wEIrd.

  7. MK says:

Ever look on a map at South Dakota? the main East-West Freeway doesn’t bend more that 5 miles to either side. That’s God’s little way of saying ” Move along! nothing to see here, Let’s keep it moving people!”

  8. Darryl says:

Hey, is the deadline October 5th at 11:59 PM EST as listed on your home page, or October 5, 2010 at 11:59pm PT, as listed in the official rules

    Thanks!

  9. ScoutC says:

Boy! When they wear shorts, they really wear SHORTS!

  10. CTBRK says:

Could there BE a more awkward picture than the sample? I think they found their winner!!

  11. tcblikeep says:

Verizon…more bars in more places…even South Dakota.

  12. Jen says:

Just wondering – under the submissions link, are you posting ALL submissions, or just the ones you deam worthy to go on to the next level. Based on the wording, it seems that you would be showing all of them…but maybe I’m reading it wrong.

hey jen, the contest page is curated so yes, not every pic will make it up. but anyone that submits will receive the coupon from virgin, whether or not pick goes up.

  13. JerseyPam says:

In a very quiet voice…”what happened to my favorite photo?”

  14. Erika says:

    OUCH…camel toes!!!

  15. Lynner says:

Weird, that is exactly 30 miles west of my home town.

  16. Nina says:

I just looked over the submissions, and with the exception of a few, they’re not as funny as regular AFP pics. I think the big prize is making people submit whatever photo they can find.

  17. Nancy says:

Is this the Stuart Smalley family?

  18. Chad says:

That kid with the one sock up and the other sock down was ahead of his time.

  19. Camilla says:

    hahahaha, happy campers

  20. kat says:

off to see the world’s biggest ball of yarn

  21. Mavennica says:

Until I read the caption, I thought “Virgin America” referred to people who were so awkward they would be virgins forever. The picture supported that idea too.
