Why in the hell is the letter in all caps?!

  2. Kris says:

I was reading through the comments and I just want to reiterate that I LOVED THIS EMAIL from my Dad, because my Dad is awesome. In fact, his name is Dick, and he’s a big guy and he’s been called Big Dick his whole life. haaa…..
83 years old and I’m so very lucky to still ahve him in my life. Dad and Mom just had their 63rd wedding anniversary. I’m the 43 year old “baby” of the family. 🙂

    • Jaime says:

I just want to say thank you for sharing this letter – it’s AWESOME! It really made me laugh because there’s no doubt in my mind that in a few years I will get the same letter from my parents – you and I even have the same birthday!

I hope that you have many fabulous returns of the day on our birthday, and please give your Dad and extra hug from me 🙂

  3. Laura says:

This is absolutely brilliant! I laughed so hard when I read this. What a thing to read on your birthday! I hope the rest of your day made up for it!

  4. Cindy says:

Dad is so funny! Hope she had a Happy Birthday in spite of the strange email!

  5. rebekah says:

    we have the same birthday!!

  6. Leslie says:

OMG – old people – hilarious. They think they can say anything. It’s like their brains have turned off the censorship function. This is really a classic.

  7. Iliana Jimenez says:

My birthday is may 18th 🙂

  8. balls says:

Uh yeah….there is absolutely NOTHING awkward about this email. I dont get it.

  9. Chloe says:

I can’t believe no-one has pointed out that you don’t have to be married to be happy! Being a school mam with a good sense of humour sounds like fun to me

  10. muppetzinspace says:

Goes to show you for some parents, it’s all about THEM! My bf’s stepfather tells me some whoppers too. One night when we were over at his house having dinner, out of nowhere he said, “You two better figure out soon if you’re going to get married or not. Tick, tock.” My bf and I are in our mid 20’s and have no desire to rush into marriage. *sigh!*

  11. Cathy says:

The woman who got this letter, Kris, has responded several times. This was a fun thing, some people are thinking he was being mean. Read the comments, she had a laugh over it. Save your angst for therapy, kids!

  12. LOMAC says:

Yeah classic bad Dad tactic…ignore it all and enjoy everything else…please!

  13. Funkzillabot says:

Harsh. Loved how he turn your birthday around and made it about him. Classic.

    • Cathy says:

If you read through the comments, Kris has been on here several times stating how huge her Dad’s sense of humor is and that this was clearly a FUN thing and she’s cool with it.

  14. joanne caradonna says:

Hi , long lost twin ! Seems that we share the same classy Dad ! lol ! Mine told me , at the young age of 24 ,that if I didn’t hurry up , I was going to be an old maid .( This from the pitiful soul that ended up divorced after cheating , on my dear momma ) . Nope , he just couldn’t see why I wasn’t eager to race down that isle ) .Twenty years later , I married the most wonderful guy but didn’t tell good ,ol’ Dad ’cause I know he would’ve thought I was a granny bride , for sure . Oh the shame ! lol !

  15. The Green Porcupine Ninja Machine says:

It took me literally ten minutes to figure out that “Kris” is a girl’s name too… 😛

  16. Tanyaya says:

Looks like pa wants some grandkids. My parents are in their 60s and the sigh of relief was almost audible when I got married!

Tell your pa that the 40s are the new 30s!!

  17. Graembo says:

Y’know, he could just oil his new knees like the Tin Man… 😉

  18. corinne says:

Sounds like soemthing my dad would have said –errr, did say — when I was 25. My mom kept bringing young doctors home for dinner. (I ended up marrying a nomad of another faith, just to make them nervous. It’s been a decade and I look forward to the next 50 years with him) I’m glad you have a good sense of humor about it! Parents are a treasure, and no matter how old I get, I always need mine.

  19. Vanessa says:

You are so lucky to still have your dad around at 80 yrs of age.

  20. Lori says:

i love this email lol…i can t wait till i’m old enough to say what ever’s on my mind and not worry about offending anyone. my dad’s 72 and says what’s on his mind too…it usually makes me laugh, a few hours later that is!

  21. Dollie says:

Sounds like Pa is shooting for his own TV show!

    “Emails my dad sends”

  22. Scout says:

A dad who remembers your birthday and knows how old you are? Wish I could have that.

    • Kris says:

I’m very lucky – the best part of the emial was that he mispelled my first name!
My mom sent me a card a few years ago that said, “In a few years we’ll be 80, and you’ll be 40, isn’t that something? Happy Birthday.”
My parents are 82 and 83 and they are freakin’ funny. I love everythying about them.

      • Victoria Riley says:

Happy Holidays, Kris. I think we have the “same” Dad. My Dad just turned 82, has a great sense of humor, says exactly what’s on his mind, and I love him for it. What lucky Daughters we are!

    • muppetzinspace says:

      Hahaha! Me too.

  23. Debra says:

I can’t wait until I am 80 and I can say what I am really thinking…lol It sounds like you have a great sense of humor…be happy!

  24. Alan says:

Did Dad really kneed to write that?

  25. Who says:

I thought it was a sweet email. lol.

  26. j-lu says:

That is EXACTLY what my dad would’ve written!

  27. Phrankeh says:

I received an equally awkward phone call from my dad when I was 6 months pregnant with our second child. It pretty much went like this, “So, 6 months pregnant, 2nd kid….wedding bells in the future anytime soon..or???” So when I got off the phone I told my then boyfriend that my dad wanted to know when he was going to make an honest women out of his daughter. Four days later we got married, it will be 6 years on October 30th. My dad always gets his way. :p

  28. Barry says:

Kris, I got married for the first time at 49 so there is still hope.

  29. Scott says:

I am in the same boat as NEWHERE.
    Please! Let us know!
Did you find yourself a partner?? Inquiring minds want to know.

    • Kris says:

Nope, no partner. I’m officially a 43 year old single cat lady – well, I only have one cat. And I’m a teacher.
So guess that makes me an old maid school marm.

      • Ellen says:

Your dad and mine have a lot in common – same age too! It’s hard to tell what’s serious and what is a joke in an email, but I’m guessing it’s tongue in cheek with a large dollop of “hint, hint”. I did manage to make my father proud when I finally married at age 42. He walked me down the “aisle” which was a path through the woods to a rocky, seaweed strewn beach. Not because I am at all conservative, but because I knew this would make him so, so happy… and it did indeed! Sigh… is he an engineer too?

    • Cathy says:

She said she was still single about 10 posts up if you read the comments ;o)

  30. serg says:

    I officially LOVE your Pa.

  31. LKT says:

Nice! Wonder if he mentioned grandkids in his Christmas Card?

  32. Lynn says:

I like how he casually writes ‘have a nice day’ after that!

  33. Dan says:

kind of touching to know that he still wants to walk his daughter down the aisle.

  34. Babs says:

    Well, it’s been 2 years and…..? 🙂

  35. Kelly says:

Hilarious! He’s just concerned that he won’t get to walk her down the aisle, very nice. LOL

  36. mrs5180 says:

subtle……I think he should come out and say what he really feels

  37. db says:

He seems to be hinting at something, but I can’t say for sure just what it is…

  38. Lele says:

Wow, wonder what she got for her 43rd?

  39. JerseyPam says:

Love it! He’s 80 and telling you you’re getting up there. (I hope he gets his wish.)

  40. francie says:

    Nice! He sounds fun, lol.

  41. senora_jennifer says:

    Very subtle, Pa. LOL!

  42. newhere says:

So, did you find a partner, or are you still disappointing your dad?

  43. JC says:

Shouldn’t the false knees be new and shiny?

  44. Dr. Blah says:

    LOL sounds like my grandma.

  45. Rachel of Cyberia says:

A 40 year old bride doesn’t need Daddy to walk her down the aisle. I’d elope if I were you.

  46. Jim says:

That’s a funny message! He may just have a sense of humor.

  47. Cuidado says:

I’d say Pa has a hilarious sense of humor and is having a bit of a teasing.

  48. Kitten K. Boodle says:

Well, at least he said “partner” instead of “man” or “husband.” In THAT respect, he is open-minded, it seems.

  49. Mic C says:

Well….Kris, that is a hoot. Did you get married or is your father on the knee transplant list? 🙂

  50. meri says:

    PA? Passive Aggressive much?
