Behind The Awkwardness: Synchronicity
October 28th, 2010
“This is a picture of me and my sister right before a tap dance recital. We were supposed to be clowns. Notice the Hula Hoop sown into the bottom of the shirt. You might ask…how do you keep those things on your head? Straight up Aqua Net.”

I wonder if this pic is on these girl’s Facebook profiles?
It is Andrew.. it is.
Not only that, it is on the beginning credits of the new NBC show called “best friends forever”. check it out yo!
*sewn*
This is scary creepy ! I’m talking The Shining creepy
I know their younger sister! She’s a professional poker player and only dates redheads!
jo ann- i think you mistakened her with her best friend. she loves redheads and freckles!! and she’s really pale with bleached blonde hair! and loves to ski!
i can’t believe how offended i am by those who say this is not awkward.. its all shades of awkward. it looks like a pompom threw up all over them… those hands, the foot placement.. its screams ‘i was forced to do this’
A+
OMG…I know them! My little sister was in the same dance class
You are both adorable. Careful tho’, Aquanet is flammable.
Are those Marney-regulation Jazz Hands?
What is the purpose of the sunglasses? Is it one of those “The Future’s So Bright” ’80s things?
They are pom-pom buttons.
How weird that they really do look like sunglasses if you don’t look closely! That gave it a quirkiness that pom-pom buttons don’t have.
Okay, people, you’ve been warned. If we keep complaining about the lack of awkwardness, they’re gonna post another banana picture. Sshhhhh!
T?his is what I call Nawkward. Means, not really awkward but still kinda odd. Needs parents, pets or one of the kids differently participating to make it truly awkward.
Yes, this brings back unfortunate memories.
Come play with us, Danny.
For-ever
and ever
and ever.
LOL!
the girls in The SHining were the first thing I thought of, too!
I was thinking more of the clown from IT.
‘They all float down here”
MAN, I hate clowns!
Ok, its an awkward photo, but you guys are adorable.
I’m not sure why this qualifies as awkward. There is no costumed parent involve, for example. Just two little girls taking tap. Twenty years later we all are embarrassed by such photos of our youth, but there is no inherent silliness or awkwardness.
We found the missing jazz hands from the picture of a few days ago.
Aqua Net and lots of bobby pins, right? That’s how mine were held in place.
I’ve done bobby pins for headbands as well!
I’m 28 and still dance (Hip Hop)…I can remember many photos like this with Jazz hands (I took Jazz for 11 years so it only made sense).
I love this photo, reminds me of all my early photos, sans sibling – my brother would never have done this!
It’s pretty difficult to make an unflattering costume for a child, but this definitely got the job done.
Cute picture of a couple of cute girls. Sure there’s some awkwardness here, but you and your sister aren’t to blame! That Aqua-Net could be repackaged as Super-Glue.
I’m sorry, but those are NOT the appropriate jazz hands…..
Score one for jazz hands!!!
I don’t think this is awkward, I think this is a very cute photo of two young girls that are in a dance recital.
Agree..what is awkward about this…it is very cute!
I’m assuming the mom demanded they show their “JAZZ HANDS” right before she snapped the picture…if she didn’t then this picture is more than awkward, its immediately tragic.
Very cute! I thought those were Blues Brothers sunglasses hanging from your collars, which would have made this more awkward. I do like the jazz hands, and the pom-pom tulle headpieces.
