Saturday Night Special: Welcome To The Dollhouse
February 20th, 2011
“This photo is from my 8th birthday. My grandmother bought me this American Doll for Christmas the year prior, along with glasses to “make me feel better” about getting some myself, and she apparently thought it was a good idea to be photographed with the doll on birthday. Wow, Grandma, the doll hovering over my head wasn’t creepy at all…not at all.”
(submitted by Keeley)

Wasn’t that the doll that killed Telly Savalas in the twilight zone?
You unbraided Kirsten’s hair?! Wow, mine still has her original braids, 14 years later. (admittedly, they ARE probably filled with dust, due to sitting on a self with Samantha for the past 10)
I was thinking the same thing!
Really! I never understood how AG does those loopy braids in the first place – is it a trade secret like the Coke formula or something?!
Grandma is sweet and there will come a time when even this picture will bring back memories and will give you a good laugh. I got a picture of myself with a cabbage patch doll when I was little. But I wouldn’t share it now! lol give her a big hug she is probably a little girl at heart.
You should update the doll to how you look now. . .and recreate this photograph. Then send a copy to your grandmother.
Great idea!
lol
I wonder what the photographer thought taking a picture of only the doll.. o_0
Ok, has anyone seen the USPS commercial where the family is telling the mailman they need to get rid of the clown gift they ordered? And the mailman says “Oh come on, it can’t be that bad….” and then is a bit, um… unnerved when the clown shows up at the door?
Yeah, that’s exactly what I did when I saw this picture. Too creepy. I’m still shuddering.
This is awesome! I used to love the American Girls!
Why did they put you both in Outer Space? Makes the whole thing look so weird. Poor Grandma’s plans
Such a cute little kid!
But have you considered making another copy so that you could see it as a 3-D stereogram? (Or maybe it would be spelled “stare-iogram”)…
Such a lovely doll, if only Keeley had been holding her, it would have been such a sweet picture
stabbitty,…just stabbity.
Run little girl run!
The girl looks cute. The position of the doll…why couldn’t she just be holding it or something?
That’s the Kirsten doll wearing the Molly glasses…HOW AWKWARD!
Wait, what?
This isn’t Kirsten: they also have dolls that you can have made to look like you.
i’m pretty sure it IS kirsten. she’s wearing the same dress kirsten comes with, and that’s what kirsten’s hair looks like if you take the ribbons out.
not to mention, judging by the time frame of the picture, they didn’t have the “customizable” american girl dolls when this picture was taken.
i ruined all my american girl dolls hair. poor samantha looked like a boy after i was done with her.
Lol, Ashley, I was thinking all the same things! I had Kirsten and my sister got Molly since she wore glasses. However, I guess grandma wanted her to have the blond haired doll so it matched better? My sister had blond hair and she and Molly got along just fine. Historical inaccuracy!!!!
Pretty decent of the photographer to photoshop out the meat cleaver.
LMAO!
2001: A Doll Odyssey
If only the doll were seated and the little girl’s head were floating in the cloud above…
The hovering over-the-shoulder photo is ALWAYS creepy. No matter who is back there.
Yes.
WATCH OUT!! IT’S GOING TO GET YOU!!!
er…that should be “that always follows you”
Hmph, my earlier comment didn’t make it.
“And there’s this creepy doll…that always follows you…” <3 Jonathan Coulton
Awww I think that’s really sweet. I would have loved to have an American Girl doll who looked like me when I was that age. Granted, I’ll admit the setup of the photo isn’t awesome, but it’s still a cute idea!
Creepy as hell!
sweet grandmother
Creepy!
Man, I wanted that Kirsten doll SO badly as a kid. I’m jealous, even with the creepy photo, would’ve been sooooo worth it.
She is awesome. So is Samantha. My sister had Felicity and the ex-slave one (for the life of me I cannot remember!)
Addie!
[Pulls string] I’m your new friend. I’m here to help you. (evil giggles)
“And now it’ time for you to sleeeep”
I don’t know, I think it’s kinda nice.
Seed of Chicky. What she can’t see…will hurt you.
Redrum…Redrum
This is actually really touching! That is such a grandma thing to do… their minds work differently than ours do, you see… and they think to themselves: “This is just the thing to cheer up little Tina!” [Shaking head] Oh grandma….
It’s Kirsten! I had her when I was little.
I was a just a little too old to get one when they became popular, but I secretly always wanted Kirsten. Is it weird that that was my first thought when I saw this picture?
I have several American Girl dolls, too! Samantha, Molly, and Josefina. When my cousin and I were little, my grandmother made us each a trunk full of American Girl-style doll clothing that fit each doll we had. I still have my trunk, and I plan on passing it down if I ever have a daughter. Easily the best gift I’ve ever received.
I just hope this isn’t up in your livingroom. And if it is, im sure its a good.conversation piece!
That’s just too funny
“My name is Talky Tina and I hate you!”
I would be scarred for life!
quit grade grubbing dawn weiner!
(whispering)…I..see…Doll People…
“Hi, I’m Talking Tina and I don’t like you!”
Not only I did literally LOL at this, I copied it when I posted the link to Facebook!
Perfect!
hahahahaha!!!
best twilight zone episode ever.
….and exactly what i thought when i saw it.
“my name is talking tina, and i’m going to KILLLLL you.”
A bit creepy…if you would have been holding Kirsten it would have been just cute…but the hovering…well, creepy! LOL!
It could only have been creepier if she had dressed you and the doll exactly alike.
This looks like the next sequel in the “Chucky” series.
Awww, I think it’s sweet. And the doll does look somewhat like you.
This will replace the sad clown in my nightmares.
Wasn’t there a horror movie with a poster like this ?!
