Who’d have thought my 15 minutes of fame would come when my wife and her family got posted on the “Awkward Family Photos” site? Or, rather, it’s *their* 15 minutes… sort of…
Wow. I have to admit that was the *last* thing I think I ever expected to see.
Nice to know my wife was cute as a kid, though.
And yes, the dark-haired lady in the middle is the mum, and is young there (and has aged well, I should add). Oh, and the “little boy without pants” is actually a short-haired girl, and I think she’s in shorts.
In answer to all: We just had someone direct us to this link. We are not sure how it got here but we are glad you enjoyed our family photo – we certainly enjoyed reading all the comments together! (Well, most of them). Mom is still looks that young and dad still has the ‘stache and the smile.
-The girl in the middle
I know I’m probably not the first to notice this, but there seems to be a relation between how large the family is and how awkward the photo will be. So many photos on here have abnormally large numbers of children.
I wish that they would all get togeter and re-create this. For some reason I can imagine the mom and dad wanting to get some new matching shirts and take a picture with all their kids and grandkids.
Me too but it’s more often in red. It’s still really common for families to dress in matching Hawaiian prints for special occasions. I think they’re pretty cute!
This is a cute picture, it’s only tacky cause it’s the 80′s. I work in a restaurant and just today a couple came in with 7 kids….I just thought to myself, God bless’em and better them than me!
There’s nothing awkward about this photo. It looks like a close knit normal family to me!
Mom sure looks good for having seven kids!! Dad looks familiar…. I wonder at which Olan Mills Studio this picture was taken…..
Very nice picture……

I wonder if they got the shirts from a special-order catalogue geared towards parents who want family portraits in matching uniform x3
I’m laughing out loud at the title (and captions on other pictures)…”Hawaii NINE-O” LOL
I think this picture is adorable!
I know this family personally…. The funniest thing in this photo is definitely his moustache. you would have to know him to know the story behind it…

The Duggars, when the show was called “7 Kids and Counting”
Lol. It was the only shirt she could find 9 of.
I’m 99% sure that the person everyone here is calling “the mom” is actually a teenage boy.
They all look so happy. If my dad had taken the family to Olan Mills for vacation, we would NOT have been smiling.
Distinctly awkward, but also kind of awesome!

Actually, given the number of grandkids they have, full family photos have proven… challenging and infrequent.
But the grandkids are very cute (but maybe I’m just biased).
There is a distinct possibility that the little boy in the middle is not wearing pants!
That would be a little girl.
I live in Hawaii and see this shirt all the time!

Hawaii is going to be crime free with these detectives on the case! (Cue the groovy Hawaii 5-0 music…)
Would have been more interesting if the backdrop had the same pattern as the shirts
Or better yet — an ocean beach sunset!!
Olan Mills strikes again…
So THAT’S what happened to Magnum’s younger brother !!! Thomas got the car, and Bubba got the girl. And the kids. And the shirt factory.
This is a cute picture, it’s only tacky cause it’s the 80′s. I work in a restaurant and just today a couple came in with 7 kids….I just thought to myself, God bless’em and better them than me!
…btw, the daughter on the upper right looks just like the mom, so despite her youthful looks maybe she did mother all of them…
Is that the mom or the oldest kid??
Ok, now everybody do the wave!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe they are all off to the fortune teller….to get their PALMS read !!!!
nice one!

Close double-knit.
By the look on dad’s face, it seems the shirts were his idea.
the Doogers go Hawaiian
I love this to… I am thinking it might have been a Sound of Music inspiration.
Y’know clothes out of curtains.. or perhaps bedsheets!
He looks a lot happier about having fathered seven kids than she does about having had to give birth to them.
I need to get my eyes checked. I thought the blonde boy in the right bottom corner was holding a trumpet…
You’re not the only one.
Ok, phew. I’m not the only one! Curse you, Olan Mills!
Me too!
I’m with you, Don. Second thought was, “Wow, that Olan Mills gets around”.
me too
Young Colonel Sanders dreams of going to Hawaii
Apparently the key to youth is having LOTS of kids. The mom looks so young!
You obviously don’t have kids!!
I love this picture!!!
At least all the kids are cute… half the pics posted on this site the children are frightful! This pic is funny… but the kids are all adorable..
The most awkward element of this photo is the mustache.
You and Normandin read my mind.
How can you say that, its obviously doing something pretty special to mum!
I agree and I place the blame on Tom Selleck. Thanks to him the 1980′s were crawling with mustachioed men in loud Hawaiian shirts.
Wow..is it me or does the mom look ultra young?
I thought so too but then I thought it was just me looking for somethiing awkward.
I was thinking they might just all be his kids..
But if that is the mom, yeah she does look young, especially to have 7 kids O_O
I am a bit freaked out – which one is the mum?
With all those kids, she hasn’t had time to grow up…!
This looks like 9-headed blue flower monster.
