Wonder Woman - Behind The Awkwardness

This was at my family Christmas party when I was about 4. I had just gotten a makeup kit from Santa and wanted to prove to the world that I had the cosmetic fortitude to wear all of it at the same time. That’s my grandfather and a longtime family friend on the left. Both of them were college professors. In my eagerness to have my facial masterpiece captured on film, I managed to pop up during a conversation that most likely consisted of literature or world travels.”

    • Rachael K says:

prob the person in the background picking their nose (in white jersey)
and their faces trying not to laugh at her big grinned makeup face

I’m sorry to all of the cutesy-lovers out there, but I agree with Disappointed Joe – this photo, and the caption that’s with it, are simply not what this website is about.

This photo is indeed cute, but it isn’t awkward, weired, uncomfortable, or funny.

BTW folks, your captions are supposed to have at least some satire, or an explanation of the irony in the photo, or similar. Let’s all use this photo and caption as an example of what should not go up on this site. Thanks.

    • Whoa says:

Well, gee, silly me, I didn’t realize this site had a serious underlying philosophy. I thought it was just FUN.

      • Kylie says:

        I agree with you, Whoa.
Jon, quit whining. If the photos and captions bother you so much, go read something that does follow tight guidelines, like the Wall Street Journal.

  7. Jeff says:

This also reminds me of the couple who set their camera up for a self-portrait only to have a ground squirrel (I think it was) pop its head up just as the picture was being taken. Too cute for words.
    Annie, you rock! 😀

  8. Micacamcam says:

Too cute! You probably ruined the picture for the person taking it, but kodos to getting the moment on film!

  9. justme says:

One of these things is not like the other one…..LOL.

    I love it. 🙂

For the guys above who are so disappointed in how “bad” AFP has gotten, you are so correct, I think you shouldn’t waste another moment here.

Grandpa and his friend look like they’re ready for a sleep after one too many. Typical Christmas, eat too much , drink too much, sleep in the afternoon. Good times

    Baby Gaga

  17. Nancy says:

Looks like grandpa and his pal are three sheets to the wind.

  18. Connie says:

With that much raw talent by age 4, I’m amazed you didn’t grow up to be an award winning make up artist. And the crown is an awesome touch!

  19. ScoutC says:

This reminds me of the “photo bomb” of the seal popping up in the corner of someone’s beach vacation picture.

  20. emm says:

yeah, i actually thought ‘baby in the corner’ was the overgrown adult sucking her thumb back there.

  21. Evelyn says:
