  1. Mel says:

No body noticed Clifford the big black dog peeking in the window??

  2. Beth says:

    Very magical!

  3. Lyn says:

    My brain hurts.

  4. Monasty says:

Looks like the girl on the far right is about to kill the mom and dad??? We may have proof of a crime here….

  5. adf says:

Yes, this is all very good, but how is the trash bag in the background being suspended midair? And who would want to kiss when a chandelier is four seconds from crashing their heads to bits?

  6. Lynn says:

What’d I love to see is the scene immediately following this pic. Too bad that wasn’t captured on film.

  7. Hannah Kirchner says:

The terrifying thing is that any of us survived the 70s surrounded in avocado green and mustard yellow vinyl and floral print interiors.

Let me add to that wide-lapeled plaid sports coats, oversized ties, and polyester body suits.

    Oy. It makes my eyes.

  8. Linda O'Leary says:

This is a Photoshopped image. The tree has been partially removed and was filled in with some black. If you look closely at the remainder of the tree you will see a ghost of an arm. This photo seems to be a mystery only because it was designed to be that way!

  9. Jonathan says:

I am curious about the second, thinner white protrusion emanating from the “cat” It looks like someone grafted on a skeletal leg

  10. Deb A. says:

Does anybody else think the older daughter looks like a mannequin? That waxy stare, the way her left hand is posed…..

I keep studying the thing trying to figure it all out but almost feel like it’s one of those jokes sent around where you stare too long and something jumps out at you.

  11. Annie says:

What is up with the older girls arm? obvously this picture was taken as she was moving but theres an extra bunch of fabric in the front making it look like she has a fake arm sticking out the side. i am confused

    • Ducky says:

She has an unbuttoned vest on that is swinging outward as she throws her streamer. That’s about the ONLY thing I understand!

  12. Miss Piggy says:

Miss Plum in the Library with a Candlestick!

  13. chirkle says:

It’s a living reconstruction of a Picasso painting!

  14. daphne1869 says:

This is clearly “pre” Marney dictator gatherings. Before Marney’s detailed instructions this is what celebrations looked like.

    • algonquin says:

I think you have solved the mystery, Daphne! Amy Misto is clearly ignoring all instructions and is throwing the proscuitto pinwheel around, while Lisa Byron (the future Lisa Byron Chesterfield) is busy trying to figure out how to hide the non-regulation sized casserole full of beans.

  15. Ducky says:

Well, Little Sister is OCD and must throw black cloth over trees. She’s carrying a bundle to take out side to replace any that the wind may have blown away. Big Sister, on the other hand, is ADHD and, having had too many candy canes, is gleefully throwing ribbons hither and yon. Dad, who has overimbibbed, is bending over to kiss his sister-in-law who suffers from narcolepsy and has fallen asleep in the midst of all the commotion.

    – Either that or the whole thing was staged just to make you ask questions!

  16. Ken G. says:

Do I hear….. “let’s get it on!…..” although that would be a bit weird with the kids there and all… o_0

  17. Carol Bender says:

It’s obviously New Year’s and this is “the kiss” – the brother took the photo. He obviously got a camera for Christmas and took pictures of everything and anything. You could title this shot “Everything and Anything”.

  18. Chris says:

It is called ART. In many circles, pains would have been taken to create an image such as this. I think we need to appreciate it much more than condemn or laugh at it. It would make a great album (CD) cover. Think about how difficult it would be to set up an image like this.

  19. PJSaintOurs says:

Not every frog turns into a prince.

  20. walkingman says:

  21. Don says:

Dad and Mom are celebrating making it to the finals of the annual family “Musical Chair” competition. The younger daughter, angry at being eliminated, is moving her belongings into the large dollhouse, vowing to “disown” her parental “cheaters.” The oldest daughter? That part of of this mystery eludes me…

  22. Ken Thomas says:

This is a publicity still from every film David Lynch ever made.

  23. Marcy Thompson says:

Well, Mom is massively disinterested in the kiss because Dad stupidly hung her new chandelier four feet off the floor. Even Little Sister had to duck down to keep from hitting it while riding her stick horse. Meanwhile Big Sister is throwing streamers on her parents to let them know a Ku Klux Klansman disguised as a Christmas Tree is lurking behind that conveniently positioned chandelier.

  24. Melissa says:

    Poltergeist activity.

  25. Jess K. says:

    Sooooo bizarre…

  26. Suzi says:

I thought the little girl was holding a hobby horse (stick with horse head you gallopped around with). Otherwise…..I haven’t a clue! LOL

  27. YiggityBiggity says:

look at the style of the chandelier compared to the curtain print. Definitely photoshopped!!!!

  28. Seanslow says:

I think mom got a new bracelet and wanted to give dad a big smooch for it and nothing was going to stop her!!

  29. bethksp says:

Lizzie Borden’s first attempt. After the streamers didn’t do the job she went and got the hatchet.

  30. jeffwhite says:

this is a childhood picture of hermione granger frpm harry potter. her parrents are kissing and dont see the death eater materializing out of the tree. her moms sister however does and is casting a protection spell on them while little hermione runs away with the scottish terrier.

  31. Deener says:

… Who knew that Grandpa’s purchase of a Macrame set for Suzy would lead to a new baby and Little Sally’s career as a CSI

  32. jeeps says:

This is what happens when you enter the house too soon after setting off the aerosol flea bombs

  33. Evie says:

Is the small child holding a black cat with a cast on?

    • pinhead says:

Oh that must be it, I thought the cat was throwing up & the white/beige thing isn’t a chair leg, they’re brown. Good call!

  34. mlou says:

    Definitely Dyngus Day! April 25th.

  35. tmansbamaw says:

At first, I thought it was a scene from a play or something. The kissing couple look totally oblivious to all happening around them. What is that big black thing on top/in front of the Christmas tree? Who was behind the camera and what were they thinking? “That’s the one! Hold it! Perfect!”

  36. Joanie says:

It looks like the end of the world and the couple is kissing goodbye.

  37. Brian says:

With the Christmas tree in the back ground, and the couple kissing, this is News Year’s Eve at midnight. Late 70s or early 80s

  38. Eric says:

Jealousy. Even Sister Wives sometimes hate to share their man.

  39. LKT says:

I’m gonna guess New Years Eve. Mom and Dad are attempting to give each other a New Years Day kiss while their oldest shoots off a popper with streamers. Why the white foil artificial tree top is covered in black cloth and why little sister is holding more black cloth eludes me.

    • wb says:

You’ve got it, the white artificial tree is getting a thick black trash bag on it to store it. I think the little girl is ducking to get out of the picture. Is she holding an injured cat???

    • pinhead says:

It does look like the little girl is holding a cat, but I think the cat is barfing

  40. mollytov says:

I think this requires a super human level of snarkiness to properly comment on. Who’s up to the challenge?

  41. Mary says:

Well, I see half a tree. This is…um…nope, I got nothing. Too much going on. It boggles my mind!

  42. Donna says:

Festivus would not involve a tree but rather the famous Unadorned Aluminum Pole.

I believe the young lady to the right is attempting to lasso the affectionate couple with a ribbon and instead caught herself a chandelier.

  43. Dalee says:

The black sheep Ewing brother, Billy Ray and family wish you a joyous holiday season.

  44. John says:

I see a tree in the background, I believe they are celebrating Festivus.
