Behind The Awkwardness: Passport Photos
June 16th, 2011
“This is me and my family (I’m the kid on the right) taken probably around ’88. My dad was taking passport photos of himself and my mom, and they had to try a few shots to get the size just right. Since he didn’t want to waste any film, he had us sit on the couch for the whole photo-shoot.”

“Hey kids look, we’re on an elevator” *slowly stands up*
Loved it. The comments are great and made me loook again!
Hey! I know the kid on the right! Epically awkward, Reuben.
Love the random parents and the girl doing…something ha!
What a brilliant picture – made me laugh out loud!!! The dad’s hair and earnest expression are hilarious. And the little dude with the funny sweater looks sooo fed up – like this is the 49th attempt to get the right shot! If this was my family photo, I’d have it hanging on the wall so it would always make me smile!!
Wow. Mom’s hair needs it’s own photo
The couch is great. It kind of has that funky, 70′s dentist chair look to it.
That kid on the right has some sweet Bobby Brady hair going on.
haha! you are so right. shouldnt that family tell the mom about this cool new thing called “sunblock”?
If you look, you can see some lines. It’s probably makeup.
Luigi was sure the warp pipe was behind the couch.
LOL!
Did you get to go on the trip?
The kid in the middle is hatin’ it. He hates the whole family picture idea as much as he must hate his very green koala bear sweater. Poor kid!!
HE hates it? what about pucker lip girl? every time they check her picture she has to pucker her lips and hold up one finger. (im sneezing in my passport photo. guess how THAT turned out.)
someone should tell her she’s holding up the wrong finger…
Thrifty and awkward…awesome!
I couldn’t get past this bizarre leather couch with the high back and sections. I have never seen anything like it. Maybe it folded down into a bed??? Why am I thinking of tootsie rolls for the first time since I was a kid?
Little girl on the left….
First “duckface” in recorded history?
WINNING
Oh my! I peed a little:) Best reply ever!
She knows it, too, hence her “number one” sign.
Haha, i think she looks more “oh no you didn’t!”
haha! Mom and Dad look like cardboard cutouts taped to the back of the sofa.
That is EXACTLY what my husband just said!
dad looks like sonny bono and i know it was in the 80′s, but mom’s hair is really out there.
Little sister looks like Alice in Wonderland, but acts like Alice Cooper. Rock on, little sister, rock on!
‘Ello Cleveland!!!!!!!!!!
She looks like she’s doing the internationally recognized sign of the Mick Jagger, actually.
I thought that the mom was topless at first.
I did too!
i am reminded of the book “when you look like your passport photo, it’s time to come home”
At first glance, I thought mom was naked!
So did I!
hahaha, that’s too funny, when I first looked at the photo I thought it was 2!
Did anyone else initially think the mom was topless?
Ha ha, I did too!
Me too!
YEP!!!
I just like the fact that the parents arent even looking at the camera. Im guessing there was more than one
If you read the text it says they were taking passport photos, in passport photos tha’s the way you’re supposed to pose.
I’m facing the camera in my passport photo. And they took my picture at the post office passport center.
Passport photos should be full face, not partial profile. The camera would have to be an a different angle for passport photos. I agree – there’s got to me more than one camera.
it might have been immigration photos. They used t o require a 3/4 profile shot with the ear visible
But then it would be Earmigration photo.
Hear, hear!
Visa photos…some people may use the terms interchangeably as a visa gets placed into your passport. Visa photos are often 3/4 view….different countries have different requirements.
Ha ha ha ha!!!!! Two for one
