“This is my Grandpa. He took this photo as a self-portrait. I think he was trying to show his sense of humour and laugh a little.”

Anyone notice the helmet is upside down?
This photo freakin rocks…I love pictures where people know how to have fun! I wish I could have this as a poster, as a reminder to not take life to seriously. He must be a fun grandpa. This pic is awesome not aweful!
This is incredibly fun and sweet! A great photo! – I could see my dad doing that lol.
Ok that is an awesome photo!
This is not photo shopped but is taken by the man in the picture which is my Grandpa.. He is one funny guy. This picture won first place in his self portrait club.
This looks photo-shopped to me. Grandpa looks like he is in a different light than background. Looks like a pic from a greeting card.
Echoing a number of other posters–this is in no way awkward. Like many, many photos on this site, this is a picture of a person having fun, not someone with regretable fashion sense or an over-inflated sense of sexiness. Why mock this great gramps as “awkward” in any way? This reminds me of the photo somewhere on this site of an adorable little girl beaming while she holds her obviously beloved pet skunk. Simliarly lovely.
I think this photo is sweet!
Words simply cannot describe how AWESOME this photo is!!!
Well I am not able to read all of the comments, but I would like to add to the positive reactions and feedback with a subtle detail that greatly enhances how special this pic truly is. Grandpa’s helmet is on backwards. Way, way cool!
This is my grandpa. He took this as a self portrait as an amateur photographer. I love the fact that he was willing to poke fun of himself and see the humour in his old age! An awesome man. I found it in the garbage when they were cleaning out his place to move him into a home with his wife of 68 years. I know he’d be tickled pink to have this photo up here and people enjoying it!!
Love this pic of your Grandpa…do you have any others of him on the web Jacob?
Why is it that when I look at this picture the intro to “Black in Black” by AC\DC plays in my head? Maybe it’s because he’s so bad-ass…
BOW…BAH-NAH-NOW, NAH-NAH, NOW…….
Because you are utterly fabulous, Laura. Too funny!
The subject and quality/look of the photo strike me as something I’d like to see as an inspirational/motivational poster. I think the person who posted this could make some money on this print!!
Oh how I wish we could see the video of the actual pedaling! I love this photo!
This is so cute!!
I would totally frame this picture if it were available for print! 😀
I was thinking the same thing…..I absolutely love this picture more everytime I look at it.
I’d swear that’s my ex-husband (#3). I can just see him doing that, too!
Hell’s Angels’ Tennessee chapter was a little different.
AH HAHAHAHAHA xD
I have to agree with everyone else…..this is the coolest grandpa ever…..at least I hope he is a grandpa because he sure would be fun to be around! You rock Tricycle man!
Like many others on here, I don’t think this really qualifies as awkward. I’m really glad it was posted, though! I’ll be happy if I’m even half that awesome when I’m his age!
After months of planning grandpa broke out of the nursing home without a hitch.
He obviously took Tom Waits’ ‘I don’t wanna grow up’ video to heart.
Many photos on this site make me cringe. But this one makes me smile with joy!
Rupert’s really lost it since the attempted pie-ing.
Evel Knievel’s grandpa gathering speed as he attempts yet another tricycle jump over 50 busses.
I’m so jealous of this guy’s grandkids.
I find myself really wishing this was my grandpa… lol… he is awesome, not awkward!
That’s actually much easier if you sit on the back step stand.
And it’s none of your business how I know this.
Hahaha! Experience makes you wise to the reason!
I’d probably wind up toppling off a tricycle a la The Raincoat Person from “Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In.”
Yep…been there and you’re right! Love this pic, too.
In a world that seems to be going to hell, this old guy gives me energy to go on…
this would make an awesome cover for a birthday card…
I was just thinking that very thing! Hallmark, take note!
Looks like he’s been practising for a while from the state of his jeans! Love the reversed helmet look, definitely it for this summer!
The helmet was the second thing I noticed! (First was, well, the rest of the pic!)
I laughed when I saw the helmut. I laughed harder when I noticed it was on backwards.
NOTHING Awkward about this (unless it might Gramps feelings) – 100% AWESOME!!
yeah. this just became my most favorite photo ever.
This makes me happy!
Love it! You go, Grandpa! My dad would have done something goofy like this with the grandkids when they were little.
Sorry guys, there is NOTHING awkward about this photo! You go Grandpa!
For some reason this reminds me of “Waking Ned Devine.” Good thing this guy has clothes on though…
This photo makes my heart so happy on SO many levels. I hope I’m that awesome when I’m his age.
Best photo posted to-date.
That’s not awkward, that’s AWESOME!
Love, love, love this pic!
I love it! I hope to be like that when I’m older.
I love this photo SO MUCH.
Wheeee! Love it! LOL
Considering the mud on his knees it appears the crash helmet has already been put to use… (Starting Line: Tour de France “Masters”)
Totally awesome? Also yes.
You hit the nail on the head. Everyone needs more awkward awsomeness in their life!
Agreed. The awkwardness and awesomeness converge
Looks like Gramps is overloading the rear axle a bit.
Lol. Helmut on backwards??
That’s what I thought, too! I love the expression on his face, though.
This deserves extra awkward points for having the helmet on backwards!
