“Sorry.. I can’t hear you over how awesome I am!”

  12. LCN says:

So many bad 80s fashion statements in one photo! The Mullet, the oversized glasses, the sequins! I hope this poor kid grew up to be Hugh Jackman hot and is getting the last laugh today!

  13. chris f says:

There were 12 photos in all……this was just the first in the sequins.

  14. Iz says:

I can’t even count the number of hipsters that would kill to get their hands on this outfit… in a totally ironic sort of way of course.

  15. cocamojoe says:

Clarinets are pretty hip. Wanna join my indie band?

  16. Wow says:

She’s got the confident air of someone who knows she can rock that clarinet! I had a very similar uniform in a drum corps in the ’70’s. I’d love to see the hat she wore with this.

  17. Alan says:

If there were another 4 identical kids…..I would definitely ‘see quins’

It’s either one of the Schmenge offspring or the reincarnation of Woody Herman. Sequined bowtie, cummerbund and suspenders? Check! School-bus-headlight sized glasses? Check! “Licorice stick?” Check! Ready to rock & roll!

  22. Carrie says:

I love the shine in the lens of his huge 80’s glasses.

  23. JS says:

    Those glasses … they’re ginormous!

  24. Joyce says:

    This child is stunning!

  25. Naysayer says:

“Just because it’s the clarinet doesn’t mean you can’t shine.”
And with all those sequins, shine he does!!

  29. Mike says:

And this one time, at band camp…

  30. BytchEPoo says:

The disco cumberband and accompanying suspenders are 80’s awesomeness! People should envy those of us that survived growing up during the 80’s!!! Mark had cojones to turn this pic in.

  31. Megan says:

I will never look at my clarinet the same way again…

The evasive and unpredictable Flute Mullet

  33. Witteney says:

    That’s a boy, I think. Right?

  34. Rebecca says:

Hey, I love this! remember when band was something you could take in school? Many schools don’t/can’t even offer it anymore.

You go and play that danged thing!!! More power to you…and for our children and grandchildren who will never have a chance to play in a school band because their parents can’t afford it, bless you all.

    – A former 4th chair flute player.

    • Ajones says:

That’s exactly right, Rebecca! Band should be something everyone at least gets the opportunity to do.

  35. Brenda says:

I’m a band director, and even I don’t know where to start.

  36. Rachel says:

is it a boy or a girl?

    • Meghan says:

I just asked three different people their opinions and none of us have a clue!

    • justme says:

Personally, I think it’s a boy, but I grew up in the 80’s (aka the Decade of the Mullet) so I’m something of an expert (HAH!). Actually, not only do I think it’s a boy, I think it is Mark, the guy who posted it. Hope he comes back to tell us……then again if I were him I’m not sure I would…..

      • Ted C says:

I have never heard the 80s referred to as the “Decade of the Mullet”.

        • justme says:

That’s because I was attempting to be witty. Nobody calls it that outside of my own head.

          • mommajay says:

But inside your head, do the voices all sound the same, or are they different? And do some of the voices sound like perhaps they, too, are wearing mullets? These are very important questions in determining your true expertise regarding the Decade of the Mullet. And besides that, I’m nosy.

          • justme says:

Yes, true MommaJay, for only one with true expertise should refer to it as the Decade of the Mullet. Such phrases aren’t to be dropped lightly into conversation….it’s not as if this is a website designed for fun….but on to the voices for the most part they sound like old hippies……but on Wednesdays…..Wednesday is mullet day… don’t want to know what happens on Wednesday…..

  37. peg says:

proof that polka disco does exist!

  38. Ajones says:

The uniform isn’t what bothers me (I mean, have you seen some color gaurds?). It’s the mullet I can’t get over!!
