Behind The Awkwardness: School Ties
August 23rd, 2011
“As was tradition in our family, we were taking our first day of school photos. The cat, Cuddles, had been posing with us in some of our earlier shots and then ran off. I was whining because I wanted to have the cat in the pictures. My brother, intolerant of my whining, punched me and told me to shut up. This made me cry and I started crying harder when I realized my mom was still taking pictures.”

cats definitely love to piss you off like that.
Maximum awesomeness!
I hate it. I don’t like it when children are unhappy.. for whatever reason
OMG I love the Mork and Mindy shirt!! My brother had this EXACT shirt back in the 80′s but it was red!!! LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!! And the explanation is just tooo freaking funny!! I think all the pics submitted should have the story behind them.
One of the all-time-bests! Look at the half-guilty expression on the brother’s face.
Mork made Cindy Brady cry.
LOL!
Classic! Reminds me of me after punching my younger sister ha ha. Seriously though as a big brother I can tell you that upon the odd occasion you felt a pang of guilt when she started crying. And woe betide anyone else hitting her. Big brother punched their lights out.
Exactly! My brothers were the same. They teased me to tears, threatened to hit me, leave me, ruin my life (all with that guilty, sorry-I-did-it face afterwards)…but if anyone messed with me, they were the first to have my back. I love my brothers. I hated them then but now that we’re older they are my best friends.
The crying little girl is jacking with my daddy instincts.
I love this. Best picture ever!
I love the Mork & Mindy T-Shirt
I think I used to own that shirt…and the stuffed dog that went with that lunchbox (Wags and Whiskers).
Mork calling Orson, come in Orson. Mork calling Orson, come in Orson…….
One of my favorite shows(Mork & Mindy)as a child. I had a crush on Mindy(Pam Dawber).
Haha, Mork!
I had two older and two younger brothers. So, I got beaten up AND had to babysit.
I had that lunchbox as a kid! I STILL have it!
I had it, too. Circa 1979-80.
OMG! Memory Lane! I had the same lunch box too! Early 1980′s in Texas.
Orson is greatly disappointed in Mork.
I am pretty sure I had that exact lunch box!
Great! Funny!
I love your Cindy Brady “curls”! Great pic!
I LOVE this pic! Choosing your Mork shirt to wear on the first day of school…LOVE it! Love the metal lunchbox (I miss those!)
Is that a Hush Puppies lunch box?
It’s Wags & Whiskers.
I had that same lunchbox!!! In fact my mom probably still has it
He’s missing the standard issue Mork suspenders with his outfit.
THIS COMMENT SO WINS!
Mork from Ork shirt tucked into his sweat pants. Priceless!
I think those are jeans. You know, brand new back-to-school jeans that will never look this good again.
I love the look on the brother’s face – “Wait, you mean I’m not in trouble?”
I love the fact that your Mom kept snapping pictures. Most Mom’s probably would have stopped and tried to get you to fake pose again – she knew it was more interesting (and amusing) to capture the true story.
I am laughing so hard I’m crying! This one is awesome!
Awww…little sister! Don’t you see where your elbow is, and where it could have gone? A missed opportunity….
Signed,
A Daily-Punched Little Sister
Ha ha, nice! You know what they say about hindsight
HaHaHa That’s great!! Have utilized that “opportunity” a few times in my youth as the little sister. LOL.
Your mom is my hero.
Seriously, the “behind the awkwardness” photos are the best. I love this one, and not in small part because it very easily could have been me and my brother.
Ah, big brothers . . . the world’s greatest source of entertainment and irritation!
So true! I had four older ones. They use to chase me around the house with aqua net cans lit on fire. lol
I would like to think that you have gottern even with him somehow over the years for punching you.
He looks sorry.
No, he doesn’t.
Shazbat!!!
I’m with LKT, you TOTALLY got him back with this pic. Mork. Nice.
LOVE the Mork from Ork shirt.
If I could “like” a comment on here, it would be Na-Nu-Na-Nu sister puncher!
Now, how do I go about using that in everyday conversation…
I love this! Thanks for the story; it makes the picture that much better.
bahaha, so right! The story DOES make it funnier!
Nanoo Nanoo
That’s alright, Jennifer. You have just taken your revenge by showing the world your beloved brother wearing a Mork from Ork t-shirt. “Na-Nu-Na-Nu” sister puncher!
Mork!
Nannu Nannu
Ouch.
