“This miraculous photo is of my darling dear mother, in the 80′s, with what is obviously a cutout of the great Thomas Sullivan Magnum. The best part of this photo is the glasses, but, the second best part is the fact that my mom refuses to admit that it is a cutout. She still thinks she met Tom Selleck.”

LOLOLOL!!!! This was MY Mom in the 80′s!!! She would have passed out if given the opportunity to get a picture with “Flat Magnum.” AND………she also would never admit that he was cardboard!!! LOL!!

Those glasses are just plain rad. They don’t make frames like they used to. Now it’s all about small and unintrusive. I want some frames that will leave a mark on the bridge of the nose like in 1993! (Probably the last year they were made that way.)

I’m inclined to give Mom the benefit of the doubt here. Look at the way the shadow of her hand ripples against the folds of his shirt. If it were a cut-out it would be a flat shadow. On the other hand, that doesn’t mean he wasn’t pickled and propped up…

Yeah, I’m sure Tom Selleck pops into Sears every once in a while to take pictures with people.
Not of his own free will, but entertainers often have to do meet & greet publicity stunts, which may involve signing autographs and having photos taken with fans against cheesy backdrops. It can be pretty grueling, which would explain the glazed expression.
But… the mom was the one there!
At first glance, I totally thought that was Tom Selleck in the “flesh”. And really the only thing terribly awkward about the picture is the earrings and the glasses, boy the 80′s really were excessive. I think the picture is funny, when I first looked at it, Tom Selleck looked like he was tolerating a fan, so that’s funny!!
The cutout looks pretty real to me … I had to check it a couple of times before I was convinced that it was not real. Of course, the way she’s pawing his chest, it would have been AWKWARD if that was a real Tom ….
I think the most awkward thing about this photo has to be the awesome earrings!
