I love this photo!!!! I loooove phantom of the opera! I mean the picture could been aittle better, but the idea is fantastic.
Aside from the leaning candles, this photo isn’t that awkward. I think it’s cool.
Note the symbolism. Tho he tries, he can’t “hold a candle” to her.

Yeah, he tricks her to coming to this dungeon thing and her actual fiancee comes to save her. The Phantom has some sort of break through and realizes she does not want to be with him. He later kills himself. Awkward.

The awkward part is that the mask obviously doesn’t fit him, which is why he has to lean against her head to hold it on….

Go rent the 2004 PotO with Gerard Butler, although I recommend the 1929 silent version with Lon Chaney if you can get it. Gerry!Phantom’s face is more of a sunburn-of-doom but you’ll get the idea.
