You are undoubtedly correct. Stage makeup is notoriously difficult to acquire and use. How could this average family figure out such a thing?

It feels photoshopped to me as well. The lighting seems to be flat on the faces… but I perhaps stage makeup behaves that way.
halloween/stage make-up is flat (matte) for a reason.
