Banana Split - Behind The Awkwardness

“My grandmother owns a store in the town I grew up in and every year she enters a float, representing the store, into the summer parade. Of course, this meant that I had to be on every one, usually in some ridiculous costume. I think that this was by far the most embarrassing year though. I’m the waving cherry on the far right and my cousin, on the far left, took the smarter approach and didn’t show his face for the entire parade.”

This is adorable! I would LOVE to have been on this float with that cherry hat!

While it was awkward at the time, it’s a great memory and there’s definitely nothing “very sad about this”. While Mason is tiny and has its draw backs, I haven’t been to a small town that I would have rather grown up in. Amazing community, amazing people and also not “God forsaken”.

I’m glad my parents didn’t do this. We owned an laundromat.

This isn’t awkward, its actually pretty cool. This is Americana. If you got out of the float and walked around with a cherry on your head in a pair of jorts. That would be awkward.

“God-forsaken town”? Ever been there? It’s a cute little town.

And the next year she entered a root beer float float.

    Is this in Mason, TX?

  11. Danny says:

I looked up this intersection, it is in downtown Mason TX, a god-forsaken town in central Texas. Something very sad about this.

Yes this was posted before. At least now it is correct. It said Cherry Pie before.

  13. Maureen says:

Am I seeing things? Wasn’t this pic posted before?

I think this is great! Maybe awkward for you, but I bet you made a lot of people smile that day.
