I was wondering why so many references to John Candy movies specifically til I looked back at the picture and OMG, Dad does look like John Candy! At least he didn’t wear blacksocks with his shorts like so many dads do.
The girl on the left with the big sunglasses reminds me so much of myself in every family vacation picture we took back in the 80s!!! I also made a point of wearing big shades and looking pissed off. But I had bigger hair.
Yeah me too, Griswalds ala Vacation #1 with Aunth Ethel. Then I read the comment about Dad looking like John Candy and now I’m totall converted to Summer Rental!! I actually own that on DVD (What?? it was in the 5$ DVD bin at Wal Mart, what can I say?) so I’ve watched it this decade and can vouch — it’s spot on!
holy guacamole’… totally had a brain embolism when i was thinking John Candy was a main character… he only had that bit part near the end as a security guard. whoops
