This pic is epic. I laughed for literally 10 minutes.

  2. Kristine says:

Thank you for sharing the photo and for all those replies! Been a hard past few days and this is definitely THEE picker-upper!

  3. BytchEPoo says:

I was thinking that the stump looks like Georgia O’Keefe fashioned it before she began painting!!!

  4. Carol says:

Those little girls are such good sports. Their facial expressions are really quite lovely, it’s the weird stump they’re being forced to hold and the hand brandishing the foliage that makes the shot so strange.

  5. Kelly says:

I was just looking at an awkward family photo of my cousin’s that she posted on facebook and remembered that you showed the class this picture, Suzy. 🙂 I just showed Anthony and Mark. They LOVE it!!! 🙂 Mark was especially impressed.

  6. Doobie says:

“The Munsters” was a good gig, but Thing saw a classified ad “New Opening: Branch Manager”

  7. Claudia Weil says:

“What rolls down stairs alone or in pairs
    Rolls over your neighbor’s dog?
What’s great for a snack and fits on your back?
    It’s Log, Log, Log!

    It’s Log, Log, it’s big, it’s heavy, it’s wood.
It’s Log, Log, it’s better than bad, it’s good!
Everyone wants a log! You’re gonna love it, Log!
Come on and get your log! Everyone needs a Log!”

  8. Moontwister says:

Wait, isn’t that the log from Twin Peaks? It does know things.

  9. jamie says:

hey, just imagine how awkward this would look WITHOUT the branch and hand…..

  10. Simon says:

They’re cuddling a log. Maybe its a special family log.

  11. Carlie says:

Is it just my eyes or does the hand have too many fingers?

    • esackman says:

Good observation, and it not just your eyes, it does look like there are two too many fingers. Which means . . . we may not be looking at just one hand, but two hands holding the branch.

  12. Palpatina says:

The log lady is pissed off somewhere!

  13. Tim R says:

    The log knows…

  14. DMF says:

So much for the theory that only God can make a tree…

  15. Sin.C says:

hope this is not what they paid for the studio

  16. charlie says:

Just think, this picture in all its hideous glory was probably carefully framed and given as gifts to grandma, uncle and aunts, expecting this to be hung proudly in relative’s homes.

  17. timo says:

    They photoshoped that hand in

  18. Deacon Blues says:

“Mommy always did love the stump more than us.”

  19. Don says:

“Be quiet girls…listen and you can hear the forest” their Mother told them. She had to lie , they would never be able to afford a trip to the beach.

  20. CarrieM says:

And even if the hand wasn’t holding the branch…… the tree trunk is flat on top and is obviously resting on a blue ledge. As it is, it looks like two girls hugging a piece of firewood with a craft-store-clearance spray overhead.

  21. Sarah says:

lol. Upon closer examination it appears to be a log (or firewood) placed on a pedestal. Great idea guys!

  22. Debra Barone says:

While the “photographer” is trying so hard to have an outdoors scene, it’s funny how the background is still the same indoor Olan Mills studio screen.

  23. Kittibee says:

Yearning for a little brother to call their own, Beth and Sylvie (who had just watched Pinocchio) asked the Good Fairy of the Wood to bless this chunk of log. Tip: “Discount” Fairies’ magic is as fake as their plastic wands.

  24. Elizabeth says:

There are almost too many things wrong in this picture!! It is like Awkward family photos eye candy 😉

  25. Steben says:

Ha ha, that branch with leaves just seems to be floating! Witch craft.

Also, I’m no expert on human / foliage photography, but is that not an ugly piece of wood?

  26. Allison says:

Ahh nature! Where hands are needed to hold up branches…

I need to get a picture like this…and have a hand in the photo.

  27. texairhead says:

The hand holding the branch makes this supreme.

  28. Snowrider says:

    Strange….where’s the “Olin Mills” logo?

  29. Kootie says:

strange enough picture without the disembodied hand holding the branch- what the heck????

  30. Rebecca says:

This is delightfully awkward for so many reasons: the fake tree trunk…mom’s hand holding the plastic branch…. the girl’s expression. Priceless!

  31. Jacey says:

Luke and Leia…use the force…of nature…(dub in tree-wand/saber stage left!)

  32. mandie says:

The disembodied hand holding the plastic leaves looks very natural.

  33. Noodengr says:

some professional, it is called cropping. Long before photo shop was invented you could still trim the edges off a photo. But the plastic stem on the small branch would still stand out.
I did not know that the 70s lacked real trees

  34. VBuff says:

OMG… the sawed off stump. And the hand holding that twig is priceless… Seriously, who says to themself, “I have the *best* idea…” and comes up with this?

  35. Mamasmilk says:

    God, it’s the switching post!!

  36. Newton says:

What really makes this picture “awkward” is the hand to the right of the frame holding the branch. I guess they couldn’t find a tree limb with branches on it. They must be tough to come by.

  37. Millie says:

Love th hand in the background…lol
