I’m tempted to comment on the sweater, reminiscent of a Keith Haring drawing done a napkin after he’d had few too many, but I was most struck by the facial expression, especially the eyes, with regard to the laser beams. It’s like a space-age version of “The Pit And The Pendulum” (itself a Victorian version of the sword of Damocles tale). Either that or a mad scientist has hatched a diabolical scheme to use lasers to create teenagers with giant hair in an attempt to conquer the planet.
I bet more than one of us had a school photo similar to this one. I had some awful hairdos that at the time I (or my mom) thought were pretty rocking. And the backdrop! Did every school photographer have the exact same one?
What’s so awkward about this? She’s a pretty young lady who probably grew up to be gorgeous.
Her hair? Her mom probably styled it….not a great style for a kid, but beautiful hair.
We ALL have a picture of us somewhere, hidden in an old photo album, with a horrible hairdo. She has beautiful eyes and a really nice face, but come on, she’s probably looking at this picture herself making a facepalm! So I say… YES,… awkward, like all teenagers are at some point or another!!
The placement of the rose on the top is awkward. The hairdo is awkward. We’re all agreed she’s a pretty girl, but come on, I’m sure this girl knows better than anyone this wasn’t her shining moment in photography.
It’s awkward because she has BEEHIVE hairstyle!!! Are they that popluar that you had one too? If so, I’m sorry for you. And she’s wearing a very unfortunate sweater. It’s FUNNY!
This girl has beautiful lips, nose and fantastic eyes an shiny thick hair. I can envision her as an adult and how lucky with all her beautiful features.

Unbelievable. Someone posted this on my Facebook. This person is my EXACT doppelgänger. It is so uncanny. SO uncanny.
Hey! I picked that same background for one of my elementary school pics in the late 80′s, go Jostens! LOL
Me too! 1988!
Adele: The younger years.
my thought exactly! lol
I call this the 80s Mona Lisa. Same slight hint of a smile, hopeful eyes and a backdrop that’s a conversation-starter.
Nothing dates a 1980s portrait like the laser light backdrop.
Sooo funny!!!
She is very pretty! I’ll bet she looks better than a Kardashian today!
Is that a young Leslie Hall, or the inspiration for Leslie and the Lys?!
I love this comment so much.
me too… that is a gem sweater for sure!
Must be a John Waters fan.
Squid do.
They still have that backdrop and you don’t have to pick it but, for some reason, people do.

Grandma wondered where that freshbaked bread went…
Beehive mullet = apiary up top + party in the back
Awesome. And here I thought that I should just stop reading all the dumb comments… Thanks for the chuckle!
Best. Comment. Ever.
i believe its call a ‘bullet.’
This name is soooooooooooo good, that it *almost* makes me wish this hairstyle would make a comeback so we could use it!!!…
…a l m o s t.
Not gonna lie…. Had to look up what a “apiary” happened to be…. This website is not only funny, but educational. A Win-Win in my book!
She has the eyes and lips of a porcelain doll. I was plagued with bad hair and neon striped backdrops as well.
It wasn’t a ROCK, it was a ROCK LOBSTER!
EXACTLY. The littlest B-52.
Thats the first thing I thought of, What a beautiful girl, sans the hair!
I saw the hair and could only ask, “Why??”
We could have had it all…rolling in the deeeeep!
AMEN! That was my thought, although the Behive Mullet aka Bullet comments made me spill my coffee
Looks like she’s going to make some 50′s Italian gangster a very happy husband one of these days…
Is this Adele’s 5th grade school picture?!? LOL
Well, everyone can say she was well bee-hived as a young girl.
*Snort!*
Haa! Love it!

I wish I had this background in elementary school! I can’t believe we didn’t, since it was the 80s and 90s!
The background looks like it’s been taken from Tron..the original 1982 version.
She reminds me of Adele!
See that girl, only seventeen, shes a dancing Queen (bee).
Is that a young Adele?
Mona Lisa of the 90′s.
What’s so awkward about this? She’s a pretty young lady who probably grew up to be gorgeous.

This is a Awkward FAIL!

Adele in 5th grade.
I’d like to see her now. She has incredibly beautiful eyes. Hopefully her hair has calmed down.
Her hair is still very pretty.
This girl has beautiful lips, nose and fantastic eyes an shiny thick hair. I can envision her as an adult and how lucky with all her beautiful features.
My thoughts exactly! lol
I agree! My first thought was: She is beautiful!
dont you mean beeeautiful?
Thanks, emma! That is exactly what I would have written if I had thought of it! Cute.
