The Towel - Behind The Awkwardness

“This is a recent photo of a family friend in the midst of her pregnancy. Nothing says tender loving mom-to-be more than a pin up bathing suit and sexy heels. The white towel is there just in case her water breaks.”

Is the towel there to keep the grass and dirt dry? If it’s to protect her bathing suit, why isn’t her whole body on a blanket? The only thing awkward here is the photographer’s logic.

  2. Jami says:

The photographer made the mistake here… Hide the towel the best you can and then clone it out in post processing.

  3. Sue says:

I think this could have been styled better. A cute gingham picnic blanket or a pretty floral tapestry rug to lay on would have looked nicer than a plain white towel. Other than that it’s a gorgeous photo, she looks beautiful.

  4. Jaxon says:

This is a lovely photo. Not awkward at all.

  5. ben says:

whats the towel for even if it dose break…..not like shes gunna put it back inside

  6. It is absolutely stupid for people to say that she is not very far in her pregnancy. Everyone carries differently and every pregnancy is different. For example, I gained over 60 pounds when pregnant with my daughter. With my son I only gained 17 pounds. I didn’t even need to change my clothing size except my bra and I was back to less than my pre pregnancy weight 2 weeks after birth.

  7. Ellen says:

Why are people commenting about it being awkward because she’s pregnant/the camera angle? Read the title – ‘The Towel’. It’s awkward because there’s a towel in the photo, nothing to do with her pregnancy.

  8. melissa says:

She’s outside. On the ground. Why would she need a towel under her? To protect the grass?

    • Angie says:

Exactly what I was thinking! And did she stand on a towel if they did any standing shots? I think it’s more likely the towel is there to protect her dress and her legs from the dirt and grass. Not to protect the grass from any leakage. Silly.

  9. Carolyn says:

I think she looks beautiful! Nothing awkward about this at all.

  10. Gee says:

I didn’t think she was pregnant until I read the caption… she just looks like a regular plus size person… thick. what is the towell for…? Protecting the grass or tree from amniotic fluid? Sorry, I think it’s awkward- should have hired a pro to do portraits.

  11. Cristy says:

Very pretty pic, didn’t think it was awkward at all. Thought it was a mistake when I read it on my newsfeed on FB. And she’s, preggo?! You go girl! Good for you… You look beautiful! Best wishes to you and your new lil one! And never listen to the negative and keep your head up with positivity! Xo

  12. Amy says:

I actually know this person so all of you saying that she’s not far into her pregnancy can retract your assumptions. She had her baby about 3 weeks after these photos were taken. She just didn’t get very big during her pregnancy. She is beautiful, the pictures are fun…I mean, a towel, guys? That’s what’s so “awkward” about this photo? I swear, people find aaaaanything to complain about. I’ll be sure to let her know what nice “family friends” she has.

    • Dandy says:

It’s funny because she’s outside. So what if her water broke? The lawn would get wet. :)

      • Vicious says:

It kind of makes sense. It would help absorb some of the fluid off of HER. She’s in a swim suit, which would hold onto the moisture, a towel would help wick that away.

  13. rick says:

    Omg!stop all the complaining..nothing sexier than a preg woman!pretty damn hott girl!sexxxxxxy!!

  14. Chareeferrari says:

I hate to break it to everyone, but she’s no where close to having a baby, so the towel couldn’t be there to catch her water. She’s barely pregnant! Pretty sure she’s not 9 months. Lol.

  15. Lauren says:

I don’t understand, this is an awesome photo! Women don’t instantly stop being sexual beings just because they’re pregnant.

  16. Minda says:

I’m embarrased to admit I’ve made this photography mistake before too. I was photographing a friend’s wedding and didn’t want her teenage son to get his tux dirty on the wet grass. I had him sit on a clipboard and didn’t realize how prominent it was in the photo until it was much too late. My bad.

  17. Fred says:

There’s nothing wrong with this photo. She looks great. The photo isn’t awkward, it isn’t tasteless, and being pregnant is not something that means that a photo shouldn’t be taken. All the snarky comments about the towel protecting the ground just shows that people don’t think before speaking.

  18. Lizzie says:

My thoughts: it’s overall a pretty picture; just shot at an awkward angle. I wasn’t aware initially that she was pregnant; probably should done it a bit later. And the towel….my gosh, there’s twigs & bark & around the base of the tree. I’d sit on a towel too; to protect my tender skin. It’s the same as if she was sunning at a beach or out on her lawn.

  19. ginny says:

Not awkward. She just didn’t realize you should be further along to have an effectie pregnancy photoshoot.

  20. Elly says:

I didn’t know she was pregnant until I read the caption. The towel just makes it look like she’s sunning herself. This is more hot than awkward!

  21. me says:

    Yeah really not awkward.

  22. Hey! She’s allowed to be sexy during her pregnancy! Not every maternity photo has to “say tender loving mom-to-be”. (And I’m guessing the awkwardly placed towel is just to lay on.) celebrate the awkward, sure, but don’t shame a woman for being sexy.

  23. mommmmm says:

Actually, the towel is probably there to protect her lovely bathing suit from dirt and grass stains. If her water actually broke, I don’t think she’d care if the GROUND UNDER HER got wet.

This isn’t an awkward photo at all, to me. She’s lovely.
