Behind The Awkwardness: Baby You’re A Firework

July 2nd, 2013

“This photo of me and my parents on the Fourth of July. Every year, our neighborhood has a parade and this year in particular my dad went all out making us wear these awful costumes. I was very upset because all of my friends got to ride their bikes in the parade and I had to wear the costume with my parents. My dad still considers these outfits a success because they got us a photo in the newspaper.”

Gaudy…yep. Stifling hot….yep. Outrageous…. yep. But also well done. They look like they took time to make. And think of how everyone dresses on the 4th.. outrageous is “in” on the 4th of July. Kind of like Christmas sweaters.

Inspired! If I start right now, do you think I can replicate these for the Seven Pines Subdivision Parade and still get my traffic blocking saw- horses decorated? Jamie, while you might have felt awkward, your dad raised the bar for the rest of us.

You poor thing. But, you were a cute little firecracker :-)

Holy cow, those costumes must have been hot in the dead of summer! I remember wearing silver lame’ as the Statute of Liberty in the July 4th parade, and sweating off about 10 pounds!

And to top it off he made you wear a toilet plunger on your head!

    These aren’t awful – they’re awesome!
