Day At the Beach - *AFP Hall Of Fame*

No babies were hurt in the making of this photo. Here is Dad’s story:

“We had just finished up a family reunion in California and decided to do some family pictures on the final day. Before this photo was taken, we had just spent time getting about 18 people (many of whom were kids) to pose for a large family picture. Those with young ‘uns can attest that sitting still and smiling for the camera are like torture to a 4 year old, so by the time we had finished with the large family we had used up all of my 4 year old’s good graces and he was in a sour mood.

So we attempt to take pictures of just our family and things are going south quickly. Both kids are crying and we are pulling our hair out trying to get one good picture because we’re a happy family dangit and we’re all in coordinating colors that have been meticulously chosen and fretted over. Someone had the idea to do a “candid” photo of us swinging our kids to hopefully raise our kids’ spirit and relieve some of our stress by flinging our kids around.

First couple of shots go fine. As we wind up for the final one I notice something out of the corner of my eye. E (the baby) is at a weird angle and my wife is yelling “GAAAAAAAAAAAAH!” instead of the usual “Wheeeeeee!” So I know something’s about to go down.

I watch my son gracefully do a full backwards layout and land flat on his back in the sand. He’s stunned for a moment, cries for a minute, but after about 2 minutes of sniffling he’s back to his regular self, smiling and laughing.”

  3. cheryl says:

so if the kid does something stupid in the future and someone asks “Were you dropped on your head as a child?” he will have proof. “yes I was!”

  4. Meghan says:

This baby is not a doll. The way the baby is postured is what makes him look like a doll. But, after all, dolls are postured that way to very closely resemble actual babies. Look at his legs and feet, the way his clothes fit. And needless to say, the horror on mama’s face. Not a doll.

I don’t want to laugh (I almost feel compelled to laugh), it must have been very scary for those agonizing seconds. BUT…knowing that both kids are ok…the looks of horror on the grown ups faces is priceless! Glad everyone’s ok and yiu have a great pic for when he’s older.

I laughed so hard I cried when I saw this last night… tonight is the same. It’s no less funny today.

Just don’t do the same thing to your baby…do other stupid things. I’ll enjoy seeing it on greeting cards in a few years!

  24. joonieB says:

My brother is friends with this family and was able to explain to me that the baby was on Mom’s hip but in the process of swinging the older child in the middle baby was inadvertently launched into the air. I was confused about how the baby fell out of Mom’s arms and, there you have it.

  25. Marquia says:

    This is hilarious!

  26. Mia says:

This is particularly funny for me because I’m busy editing a corporate video involving child development and one of the information bits I have to include is that by the time a child is 3 he/she on average, will have experienced 3 major falls/accidents.

    1 down for that kid.

  27. Heidi VanLaningham says:

So glad he was ok! Looks pretty scary, but makes for a hilarious picture!

  28. Amanda says:

I cannot stop laughing! This is so funny… wow.. just wow.
