“This was prom 1993 in Rhode Island. I was a freshman and my boyfriend was a senior. For some reason, we didn’t quite fit in at the dance… “

I respect your parents for allowing you to do what you would do as a teenager. I always wonder if the rebellious teen regrets doing one’s own thing, when they discover millions of girls “marched ” to their own drummer the conformist same way.
Cute. 🙂 a quarter of the teenager population in Santa Cruz, CA looked exactly like that in 1984-1990. Watch the beginning of Lost Boys. We weren’t in costume. They took us off the streets after we got out of school for the day.
Holy crap! I wore a padlock too, except mine was on a choker with a broken heart on it. I also wore chunky black boots. My dress was a floor length pink one as well, but yours puts mine to shame.
Cedar – that’s the best haircut of the century.
Pretty girl! I wish we could see a “now” pic.
The original cast from Pretty in Pink.
I really want to see what this couple looks like now.
I remember! You have always marched to your own drummer- never stop; it has a beautiful rhythm! Always a beautiful girl! XXOO
I am very pleased my children are boys !! Ha Ha !
Sweetheart, you looked lovely. And high-fives to your Mom and Dad who allowed you to be yourself, even if it meant some unconventional photos. I would have been pals with you in high school for sure! Wanna go to the park, in the dark, and listen to Siamese Dream with us?
Evan got rid of his mohawk for this picture.
Was the dress a nod to “Pretty in Pink”?
Hell no. This dress is lovely, whereas Andie’s monstrous Frankendress was a hideous waste of Iona’s gorgeous circa ’64 prom dress.
That peeves me everytime I watch that movie. Can you tell?
Totally agree!!! I always loved Iona’s dress before Andie ruined it!
I’m with you. The original dress was lovely.
OMG I am so happyto see some people that agree with me!! I was so bummed when she started ripping that dress.
Now that’s what I call a simple “prom” hairstyle!
this is begging for a recreation.
But that 50’s vintage dress is awesome!
Gorgeous REAL vintage gown . . . love it.
I LOVE it! Awesome how it looks like your going to be completely naked til you scroll about a third of the way down too. And then the dress….. Just classic.
I love it!! The best prom pic ever!!!! 😀 Epic!
This goes out to everyone who wanted Andi to end up with Duckie instead of Blaine. I salute you.
I love this! I don’t think it’s awkward at all
Freakin’ AWESOME!! I love it!!!!
My prom pictures from 2000, 2001, and 2002 all looked rather similar. My friends and I opted to be ourselves and still go and have fun instead of sitting it out because we were “different”, and I’m glad I went. Lots of good memories still! Hope you 2 still had a good time!
Well, WHAT a surprise you didn’t fit in! Poor you. All dressed up as 1988 Britain/1998 U$, and some present day fancy dress for Hallowe’en. A fringe and a jacket. How VERY wacky…. Sheesh.
Would not have been out of place at my proms in 86 & 87. That’s what I though for the date of the picture until I read the caption.
I’m always curious about what people who say mean things here look like. I know they’ve got to be pretty unhappy and most likely learned how to throw chilly insults from their own folks, but still…
To the people who sent in this cool AFP thanks so much. Awkward is skin deep: Mean goes to the bone. Bless you
Looks like a typical 90’s couple to me 🙂
You were just ahead of your time! Lovely dress.
Where in Rhode Island? From Borrington myself
I was a junior in ’93, and I would have partied with both of you.
She has the Leela from Futurama thing going on.
