Depeche Mood - Behind The Awkwardness

“This was prom 1993 in Rhode Island. I was a freshman and my boyfriend was a senior.  For some reason, we didn’t quite fit in at the dance… “

I respect your parents for allowing you to do what you would do as a teenager. I always wonder if the rebellious teen regrets doing one’s own thing, when they discover millions of girls “marched ” to their own drummer the conformist same way.

Cute. :) a quarter of the teenager population in Santa Cruz, CA looked exactly like that in 1984-1990. Watch the beginning of Lost Boys. We weren’t in costume. They took us off the streets after we got out of school for the day.

Holy crap! I wore a padlock too, except mine was on a choker with a broken heart on it. I also wore chunky black boots. My dress was a floor length pink one as well, but yours puts mine to shame.

Cedar – that’s the best haircut of the century.

I really want to see what this couple looks like now.

  8. Aunt Liz says:

I remember! You have always marched to your own drummer- never stop; it has a beautiful rhythm! Always a beautiful girl! XXOO

I am very pleased my children are boys !! Ha Ha !

Sweetheart, you looked lovely. And high-fives to your Mom and Dad who allowed you to be yourself, even if it meant some unconventional photos. I would have been pals with you in high school for sure! Wanna go to the park, in the dark, and listen to Siamese Dream with us?

  11. Joey says:

Evan got rid of his mohawk for this picture.

  12. dglatt says:

Was the dress a nod to “Pretty in Pink”?

    • SpacegeekNat says:

Hell no. This dress is lovely, whereas Andie’s monstrous Frankendress was a hideous waste of Iona’s gorgeous circa ’64 prom dress.

That peeves me everytime I watch that movie. Can you tell?

  13. Carla says:

Now that’s what I call a simple “prom” hairstyle!

I LOVE it! Awesome how it looks like your going to be completely naked til you scroll about a third of the way down too. And then the dress….. Just classic.

This goes out to everyone who wanted Andi to end up with Duckie instead of Blaine. I salute you.

  24. Maggie B says:

My prom pictures from 2000, 2001, and 2002 all looked rather similar. My friends and I opted to be ourselves and still go and have fun instead of sitting it out because we were “different”, and I’m glad I went. Lots of good memories still! Hope you 2 still had a good time!

  25. migimoo says:

Well, WHAT a surprise you didn’t fit in! Poor you. All dressed up as 1988 Britain/1998 U$, and some present day fancy dress for Hallowe’en. A fringe and a jacket. How VERY wacky…. Sheesh.

    • Mike says:

Would not have been out of place at my proms in 86 & 87. That’s what I though for the date of the picture until I read the caption.

  26. meanjade says:

Looks like a typical 90′s couple to me :)
