When Laura Ashley Attacks - Behind The Awkwardness

“This is a photo of my mom, younger sister, and me visiting my mom’s parents in Scottsdale, AZ in 1989. My grandmother, an old-school WASP, ordered these matching Laura Ashley dresses for the occasion. There’s no good explanation of my modified bowl-mullet hairstyle, however.”

I, along with several friends at the time, had that horrible haircut too. A friend of mine has named it the Bowl-et, which is perfect!

OMG that hair! you poor thing! I had the same kitchen scissor bangs as a kid.

Im quite convinced parents deliberately made their children look like geeky freaks in the 80’s. Was it to save them from stranger danger, unplanned pregnancy, falling into the wrong crowd? If I had a time machine I’d want to go back and slap that mean momma upside the head. Your child grew up to be an old crone librarian, no doubt!

My mom used to give me that same awful home haircut. Thankfully I was introduced to hair products by a friend in middle school.

oh and I also had the glasses. I remember the guy at the eye place pulling a paper bag from what I call the welfare drawer. I had a choice between 3 horrendous styles. the ones on the wall were for rich people.

me too with the welfare glasses. In Missouri, now they get to choose from a multitude of frames. Lucky bastards, lol! Well, not lucky to qualify for welfare, but lucky for the choice option.
