Little House On The Prairie - Behind The Awkwardness

“Growing up our house was in the country next to an old farm. The original “pump house” or well was in our back yard. My parents thought it would be great to dress in colonial attire and pose in front of the “pump house”. Since it was 1976 my mom had sewn costumes for the bicentennial parade that were riding in and there you go…….the “colonial family” picture. I didn’t know that they had schnauzers and cocker spaniels during that time.”

I don’t think it’s awkward at all–it’s a great family photo, very unique way to celebrate the bicentennial.

THIS IS TOO DARN CUTE!!!! 😀 I thought it was a modern picture made to look old, not and actual 70’s photo.

Cocker Spaniels are first mentioned in the 14th century, although the exact history of the breed is not known
Schnauzers were bred in Germany during the 15th and 16th centuries.
So, it would be possible for a colonial family to own either breed of dog.

Why wouldn’t there be schnauzers and cocker spaniels? They’re not new inventions you know.

yeah, i was also wondering, “what? they didn’t have dogs back then?” while i know there are new breed mixes, it was still a weird thing to say. lmao!

the world didnt start with all these breeds of dog running around, most are a result of inbreeding over the years, so there’s that. think before you type
