34 – yet another reason 50 shades of grey is a bad thing!
37 – how cute is this, the little lobster looks so happy, very cute!
The granny in the maid outfit is soooo hot looking !!!
I love the elephant family. Spiderman rides a llama?
Most of these are awesome! Not awkward! Not everyone buys their costume.
That Baby Alive costume is both sick and brilliant, but not awkward!
This gave me a good laugh tonight!!!
I actually thought the s’more one was a cool idea.
These were fun, brought back many memories from 70’s childhood/homemade costumes!! Interesting collection~of course there will be comments claiming “truth” to strange stories, has the internet not turned us all into detectives/debunkers? lol
Notice how all of these dorks are white? LMAO
I love the the pic of the devil with the Jesus picture in the background! HA! The irony!
It could be worse; they could be “crotch potatoes.”
the two ‘Demons’ holding the child are not krampus. This is actually a well known pic of a child and his kidnappers taken before he was stolen and later found murdered. I find it disturbing that it made this list and a lil sick tbh.
Really? What’s the case called? When did it happen, and where? How was the photograph captured *before* the kidnapping – did the kidnappers volunteer to stop and pose with their target while the frantic mother snapped this photo for posterity’s sake instead of calling for help? You’ve gotta think your urban legends through before you try and create them – only the plausible ones ever stick 🙂
If it was a “Well Known” photo of a kidnapping you would have posted the kids name. You did say it was “Well Known.” You can’t just make stuff up. Most of these are original ideas from the 70s. Quit hating.
if it is a “well known” photograph I sure had a hard time finding it. Perhaps you could link to a story about it, or just admit you have no idea what you are spewing
Do you have a source?
They’re not demons. They’re baldknobbers.
The 2 adult guys in the devil masks are not in Halloween costumes. They are Krampus, who in early December (before Xmas) “punish” kids who are ill-behaved (sort of an anti-Santa). That kid has every right to look terrified; the Krampus on the right is holding the switch called a ruten, that are used to hit those misbehaving kids with.
The smile on the lobster baby is priceless!
Other than a few standouts, most of those were awesome, not awkward. I think it’s great that so many families all dressed up together in a theme. And all the homemade, creative costumes…. what’s awkward about that?
Agreed. Most of these are adorable, homemade costumes and shouldn’t be labelled as awkward. I call foul.
Totally agree – I look at these & wish I had thought of them 40 years ago!
Some of those should be considered child abuse. Poor kids. Not many women can pull off Wonder Woman though.
One of the black and white photos is a still from an urban legend film called “Satan’s Sphinx.” Somebody punked you on that one.
That guy in the ‘costume’ made out of pumpkins…. I can’t even
I laughed so much I came to tears, something that has only happened a few times in my life.
It only made things worse when I thought, ‘Hello, is it me you’re looking for?’
That’s Tom Green formerly from MTV.
I find most of these to be totally awesome!
That’s what I was thinking. They had to get creative with it vs buying a $30 prefabbed costume.
Cutest: Family as rainbow
Most hilarious: Dad as a Bible verse
Most interesting: 1800’s demons. I say this because the masks are really, truly, ka-REEP-y, and the kid looks freaked out…but the body language of the demons looks like they’re holding him gently, reassuringly, maybe giving him a little pat of encouragement. Just a guess but I’d say the demons are probably Dad and an uncle. But those masks…SHIVVVVER…
I honestly thought that dad was a polygamist cult leader with his child brides… Thought the accidental insinuation was what made the costume awkward. Ugh, shame on me, the internet has twisted my mind.
Those are krampusses! The anti-St. Nick that arrives at the beginning of the Advent to punish wicked boys and girls by beating them with reads and throwing them into their baskets. They still have adults dress up as the krampus and parade through town. They tend to be pretty liquored up and dressed scarier than any Halloween costume. They chase children around. Truly terrifying for a kid. Mainly done in Austria and parts of Bavaria.
Also done in a Christmas parade in upstate NY. I’m just glad I am not the only one that knew it was Krampus.
That looks like Nicholas Cage in the photo fifth from the bottom.
Nice collection of pics. Superman’s logo is upside down though.
There’s a Superman in that picture?
I think he’s dressed as Bizarro Superman from the old Super Friends cartoon.
Wasn’t Bizzaro blue, or like greyish? And I thought his logo has a backwards “S,” not completely upside down. And maybe his hair didn’t have that curly-q thing going on? It’s a been a decade or three since I’ve seen the Legion of Doom so I could be wrong.
