The Scarlet Letter - Behind The Awkwardness

“We had a pilgrim costume in our family, and my mom thought it was hilarious to sew a red letter “A” on it for me to wear on Halloween. She told me it was because my name starts with A, but I’m sure the teachers and school administration thought it was either amazingly funny or completely inappropriate to dress up a 4th grader as Hester Prynne.”

At the time the photo was taken, the prevailing reaction was probably amusement.
Now it could mean a visit from Family Services, though there is the distinct possibility that the educators who actually read and understood Hawthorne would consider the irony of basing a such a report on a Halloween costume.

Wow! Just Wow! If one of the kid was dressed as a priest it would have been terrible!
