Maroon 5 - Kids

Maroon 5

“My mother must have ransacked the Sears catalog to purchase these Sears Tuffskins maroon denim outfits (with white top-stitching) for all five of us kids. She got matching outfits for herself and Dad, who aren’t in the photo. Then we all went to Six Flags Over Georgia, where we were mistaken for – on multiple occasions – either a gospel group or a a country music band. As the eldest child (12) and only girl…I was completely mortified and spent most of the day dragging 20 feet behind my family. Flash forward 44 years and it is now my brothers’ and my most ‘precious’ (and totally hilarious) memory! Embrace the awkward!”

I Dream Of Ricky - Misc

I Dream Of Ricky

“This is me in my bedroom, with puffy Ralph Macchio-style hair, in the industrial loft that I grew up in (hence the water pipes and asbestos ceiling directly over my head). This photo perfectly encapsulates my world at the time, which was MTV and Ricky Schroder.”

Change Of Heart - Dad

Change Of Heart

“This is my husband and four children. We asked the kids to sit down with Dad to get their pictures together, but my daughter didn’t want to be in the picture, so said, “Okay, just stay over there.” I started to take the picture and she got even more upset for being left OUT of the picture. As you can see my husband was also annoyed!”

Wedding Crasher - Couples

Wedding Crasher

“After our wedding ceremony our photographer and wedding party went around to take pictures and while we were at this park along the river. She thought it’d be neat for my new husband to dip me backwards and kiss me while holding my leg up. Well, my nerves must not have been settled since our recent exchange of vows because I accidentally leaned back after giving him my leg, but before he was ready to hold me. I actually forgot all about this even happening until I saw our photographers photos. There’s actually a 3 picture series of me falling, but this one is my favorite because of everyone’s faces. I also love how my hand is desperately seeking help, and the fact that my husband is smiling about it.”

A Bunny Tail - Misc

A Bunny Tail

‘We took a trip to ride the Texas State Railroad’s Easter Egg Express down in Rusk, TX. It was the first time my son had seen an Easter bunny up close, and he wasn’t too sure the bunny was legit. The fun continued because the bunny even road the 2 hour train ride with us.”

You Stole My Easter - Misc

You Stole My Easter

‘I think I’m around 3 years old in this photo and my brother would have been around 7.  Although I don’t remember anything about what was in those baskets, I do remember being tremendously upset that my brother had stolen mine and refused to give it back. My parents still say they were basically the same basket with maybe one or two things different, but even now I’m not buying it.”

Recreating The Sleepiness - Misc

Recreating The Sleepiness

“For our dad’s 80th birthday, we decided to recreate a picture of all 5 kids sleeping.  Or pretending to  sleep.  I’m the baby who wouldn’t close her eyes for the picture.  The best part is my two older sisters still wear matching pajamas, 45 years later!”

Chopped - Dad

Chopped

“The 80’s were an experimental time for Dad when it came to facial hair. Here he is reading the Cabela’s catalog with my brother. I am not sure what the knife was for. I always wondered if his chin got cold.”

Cool Ray - Behind The Awkwardness

Cool Ray

“My parents had a traveling puppet show that my sister and I grew up performing in from ages 8-18. This is one of our promotional pictures of us with a puppet we worked together, named… Cool Ray. YES. Kids could buy a picture for $ .25. And did. I’m on the left, apparently sporting the same hair as the puppet.”
