Behind The Awkwardness

Who Likes Short Shorts?

“This is a photo of my dad back in 84 or 85. Those were one of his many pairs of daisy dukes. Both him and my grandpa had a matching pair of ones with rainbows on the sides. I was always embarrassed when they would attempt to take me out in public while they were wearing them.”

No Thanks

“This is one of my wedding pictures. The photographer had asked my husband to kiss my neck while my mom was five feet away. As you can see, our reaction was caught on camera.”

Plaidoon

“This was a family picture of my siblings and I taken a few years ago. I decided it would be a good idea to wear plaid and my brothers decided to follow suit. My sister however, not having plaid, raged.”

Baby Powder

“This is a favorite early photo of my daughters after a strange incident involving baby powder. Their future personalities shine through.”

Catch of the Day

“My five year old daughter had been trying to catch a fish for about 30 minutes with left over breakfast pancakes. Time after time she would throw her line out and then…. much to her surprise she caught herself! :)”

The Twiggle

“This is my lovely family and myself. My sister was holding me and trying to wiggle out her tooth with her lips.”

Goal

“At a family birthday party, I thought I would do the fatherly thing and play a little soccer with my daughter.  As I approached her to try to steal the ball, she sent a rocket in my direction. I was okay after writhing on the ground for a few minutes.  We switched to football for the rest of the afternoon.”

Beltboy

“This is my pre-school picture.  I had a fit and would not get my picture taken unless I could put my belt on my head.  So my mom did what she had to do.”

Goosebumps

“One year in elementary school, we were given the option of taking a hobby photo in addition to our regular picture.  My parents suggested I do a soccer photo or even one with my clarinet but I insisted on Goosebumps, explaining that the clarinet one would be too dorky.  I’ve never actually read the book I’m holding and out of the 50 or so titles I collected in the series, I only read about 5.  None of those 5 were the book I won a city-wide poster contest for in sixth grade; I just liked drawing wolves.  I guess the judges never read them either.”
